It is astounding but not surprising that Monet in his early years as a painter was rejected by the officialdom of the Paris Salon in trying to exhibit his paintings. His capture and essence of light has not been matched except by maybe only a handful of painters in the last 100 years since he rejuvenated the art of painting and seeing light, shape, colour and value in a new exciting way. Monet was way ahead of his time. He explored and ultimately discovered and captured on canvas the intrinsic properties of atmospheric light like no other artist before him, nor indeed any artist after him.
