I once steered her sister ship the "Senlac" on a day trip on the Newhaven -Dieppe route, at the time I was a sea cadet (youth organisation for the non British national) awaiting to join the Royal Navy, I went to see the purser who took me on the bridge, I told the Captain my future plans and he let me on the helm for a short time, I went on to drive warships after that. so great memories of those ships.

I have fond memories of waiting on a dock in Corfu in the late 70’s for a ferry to Bari in Italy, the ferry arrived 6 hours late and then headed off in the wrong direction ! Only later did we discover it was actually 3 days late.... mmm... we eventually got the kombi & us to Italy ... hilarious 😎

No, usually they travel to Igoumenitsa, Corfu or Patras. It would require to go around Peloponeese to arrive to Athens (the Corinth Canal is narrow, so bigger ships do not fit), and Athens nowadays is 2:30h from Patras by car.

In 2000 there was a ferry disaster near Paros where the ship Express Samina collided with rocks outside Parikia port and capsized in a similar way to the Herald of Free Enterprise. 81 people died during the disaster. Have a look at the blue star ferries website for info on prices and schedules. On my trip I spent only one night in santorini which was way too short.The island was much bigger and had more to see than I had expected. If u only want to do a day Trip i think Naxos is better as u would have a few hours there before the ferry comes back.
With the ship being cast aside by the owners, why is it not been towed to the ship grave yard, its an eyesore where its been left, just as i was about to press comment i happened to see the post below, being associated with a shipping family, it is heart breaking to see a sight such as abandoned ships.

The ship has stabilisers so it was not rocking at all, however it was blowing my camera around which is why the shots are a little shaky at the end. I did not use the wifi but I think it was available for a fee. Glad you liked the video, have a nice trip to Santorini.
