    That's my girls!!!! Back in form! This was such a fun and intense match. I am not sure why.. but I was just on the edge of my seat the whole match. Loved to see Beckie back on the pitch again. She was sooooo great! I am so happy for her. Crummy her goal didn't count.. but they still won. Oh and her dance in the net to stop that last potential goal.. that was impressive. Sophia.. always shining so bright and so cool to see Christine being such a TEAM player. I love it!!! I hope this is them now with their groove back.. and hopefully many more games going in their favour!!! Way to go Thornies!!!! Cheers from Canada 🥳🥰🍁

    My girls are finding their stride now. Chicago was very unlucky hitting crossbars and posts. Great road victory for Portland. Smith is hell of a player.

      A Sophia Smith special. How many times have we seen her pull off those shots for both club and country? The goal she scored against Canada in the She Believes Cup final was very similar. When she let the ball run across her body and then struck the shot it didn't look like it had enough pace but she somehow got the angle right and that was enough to beat the keeper.

      @@cezardasilva4187 I think he was implying that she was mostly a non-factor in the game (except for that initial crossbar strike).

    I watch this highlights again and enjoy it a lot more. The Thorns ladies at times have passed the ball to one another like techbook teaching, but too bad one at the end shot wide by Sinclair!
    The GOAT Naeher passed out one ball to her mate like a kid in middle school but ended up right in Beckie CHEST, she casually shot it in back the net in a flash even her was shocked, couldn’t understand what has happened so quickly!
    Too bad goal didn’t count, ball flying in just swizzes Smith arm via VAR.😔
    Just a moment later, Beckie (a forward player) came all the way back to DEFEND HER GOAL and has cleared away one goal just about to cross the line! 🌹👍
    Malory Swanson managed several shots at goal but all got intercepted. Near the end one dangerous and brilliant set piece shot straight at goal from her but also pushed out by Hogan. 😔
    Redstars did have couple headings to goal but, unfortunately the frame and post prevented the score! Play better next game Redstars!
    Yes, I love the Thorns because of Beckie, Fleming, Coffey, Swanson and Sophia Smith and I like them to win. This game is so entertaining!

      …Except for the terrible handball call against Smith. Unintentional, clearly trying to turn away, with her arms tucked in tight.

      @noodle_fc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TomF18 That was actually very good, also! It doesn't come up much, so it's not widely known, but the rules for defensive and offensive handball are different. I agree that wouldn't be a handball for a defensive player. However, the rule says that if the ball enters the goal after striking an offensive player's hand/arm it's a handball regardless of any other condition.
      Essentially, on defense you get some benefit of the doubt, but on offense the rule is intentionally strict and unambiguous.

      @@noodle_fc Out of curiosity then, where do midfielders stand with that rule? More with defenders or attackers?

    Congrats to the Thorns, they’re backkkkk!!!!👍🌹
    I love to see the CLEAR STRATEGY from Thorns passing and PASSING TO SCORE!
    They’ve created the channel passing from Coffey ➡️Sinclair ➡️ Smith to score 👍
    Smith dribbling skill to score first goal is worth the $$$$ she’s earned!👍
    Naeher is the GOAT for USWNT, but sometimes she acts like a kid just starting out playing soccer???? Bad mistake kicking the ball out to her team mate but ended up to her opponent Janine Beckie who from the outside distance to shoot it in back the net is wonderful to see from Beckie but unfortunately ball flying in hit Smith arm, no goal! 🤪. Janine Beckie from her position of forward but came all the way back to defend her goal so well and helped clear one ball just about to come in.🌹🌹🌹
    Chicago Redstar did not have good defense today Nor a great attacking either. Swanson did all by herself from outside and got intercepted all by goalie.😔😔🤪
    Redstars, go back to drawing board again for better attacking and defending next game!!!

    I really am surprised that they disallowed Becky’s goal; Sophia’s arm doesn’t change the direction of it at all, it barely grazed her it seems

    • @TomF18
      @TomF18 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. What an amateur call. It was clearly unintentional, as she was trying to turn away, and had her arms tucked in tight. I guess the only way that ref would’ve allowed the goal would be if Smith were an amputee.

    • @noodle_fc
      @noodle_fc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We rarely see it, but the handball rule specifies a different standard when a goal is scored. It's always a handball if it came directly from or touched an offensive player's arm immediately before the goal.
      For instance, if a keeper threw a ball from their own 18-yard-box and it ended up in the opponent's goal, that's a handball offense!

      @noodle_fc 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ozzyoxenfree No problem! Even though the Thorns are my team and it would've been good for Beckie and for goal difference, I really like that they made that part of the handball rule unambiguous. No arguments necessary: it's there in black and white.
