My theory with the astroturf is that they were trying to kill two birds with one stone. California is very stringent about water usage, so consolidating two fountains into one enabled them to turn on the fountains near Sleeping Beauty castle again, and operationally opened up a bunch more stroller parking

I like that they used real trees throughout. The tree in Centoonial Park will grow and families can chart its growth on every visit with pictures taken in front of it. People seem to never remember (or are too young to have seen it) that many trees in Disneyland started very small, and have grown into their space. Most obviously the two trees they had to remove and replace in front of Pirates. The tree will get bigger.

Bringing in more 80’s/90’s loop music is such a smart idea, given so many of us millennials have nostalgia for Duck Tails, Chip N Dale, Goofy Movie, etc. Also, so happy to see them update Gadget’s coaster - even giving her more love! I was worried that it would be axed!

I continue to be impressed by how well Toontown now blends so many eras of Disney cartoons. It still has much of the quintessential 40's cartoon style. But now the fountain has a more classic early style of Mickey and Minnie. The Gadget Coaster reflects the Disney Afternoon era. Donald's boat uses the modern DuckTales designs and Runaway Railway covers the modern TV styles. And the music loop includes nods to all eras as well. No matter what era of Disney cartoons you grew up with or prefer, it's in this land now, and they seem to have done a great job making it feel coherent and not just a mish-mash of styles.

I was there when it was Mickey’s Birthday Land, Mickey’s Starland, and even worked there when it was Mickey’s Toontown Fair. I so wish space would be made to recreate it somewhere in the Magic Kingdom or possibly Hollywood Studios. It was a memorable experience to be in Mickey’s house for kids and adults!

Tom's "gushing" over Toontown. Warms my HEART! I think DL + Imagineer's knew how important to get it RIGHT! After all, THIS is where a lot of kids most intimate interaction with Mickey & the gang. The grassy areas is a throwback to original DL. Walt insisted that rather than put up borders/fences, let the guests tell you where they want to walk. Merch was done with a "purpose". I MUCH prefer to impulse buy with a keepsake that reminds me of MY visit. My house is "littered" with such personal items. Having arthritis and hearing that even the kids that are NOT ADA still wanting to take long way around is the essence of the boundless energy of that age.

i have drawn my disneyland paris version of mickey's toontown idea; it doesn't have roger rabbit's car toon spin, but it does have a third train station for the park next to mickey's house. the land also has goofy's playhouse, donald's boat (the same version in the new mickey's toontown), minnie's house, chip & dale treehouse next to chip & dale's gadget coaster and mickey & minnie's runaway railway (see below for the differences since there are quite a few)
the facade of the ride is still the el capitoon theater, with standby and premier access lines going inside, but the museum was replaced with normal theater areas
there are two preshow rooms, with the theme song being sung in french as well as the other spoken lines
the train goes in the opposite direction as the other versions, and there is an outside portion after the park scene that lets you look out into the land
the track switch sends goofy's car into a tunnel to the left while the rest of the train keeps moving forwards into the desert scene
the carnival scene has the most interesting change: when the tornado blows mickey and minnie away, a door in the middle of the room opens and the cars go down a drop as if they are not powered. this drop is needed to pass underneath the railroad tracks
there is no island/ocean scene and instead there is a projection room of the cars floating down a river into the city
in the dance studio, daisy speaks english
the rest of the ride is not too much different, but after the train is sent away from the unload station, it goes up a large lift to return to the loading level of the show building
the ride doesn't have an exit gift shop, so there is a five & dime shop next to the ride entrance

Think a good idea for the tree is to let the kids grow over time with the tree. By the time they have kids the tree would’ve grown twice the size. Also ‘grow’ the roots with the tree, maybe add more over time. For nostalgia purposes. Or make the illusion of the tree growing by maybe replacing every so often. Was definitely underwhelming to see though. First thing I went looking for was that tree n kinda sat there like ‘…….huh.’ . Was my favorite out of all the concept art.

Just there this past week, SO busy. Loved how the Land sucked up so many guests, clearly necessary & useful for the park as a whole. Great to finally have rly fun space for littles since Bugs Land left (og splash pad) long time coming. (Checked out final iteration before the redo, was hot, sad, & dead.) So many kids on the slides etc., beautiful to see.
Hilarious that folks were picnicking in the actual road in, that was interesting. So crowded not sure how we ended up walking across “green” space, but I guess we we did. The back quiet space was full but very calm when we checked it out, lots of napping folks of all ages, well deserved I’m sure.
Super cute overall, just so hard to know where one is. Tree, yes lame sadly, agreed. The Runaway Railway ride is lovely, we had a great time. Had snacks (highly recommend the chips & dip, that was great) & somehow got a table while Railway was down, got on with a short wait when it started back up, nice! Bought almost the last few Power Limes (behind the counter!) they need to make more of those :) Also bought a Chuuby bag, so stinking cute, will bring on every future visit without fail.
Overall very happy for the Land, too bad it’s so tiny. Honestly though a whole Park of this would be full. Still, nice job Disney. It’s ridiculously pretty, esp while walking in.

As someone who romanticized Toontown after learning about it during the height of my Who Framed Roger Rabbit discovery phase, I became kind of attached to the land and hoped to visit one day. Never made it and was terrified when they announced it was getting revamped. As a kid I even asked for and got the Toontown Christmas village light up set for Christmas and displayed them year-round. I still don’t love some of the color choices like the overabundance of blue in the City Hall corner, going from basic colors to more neon-y ones or the patterned Welcome To Toontown sign, but the paint touch-ups and other improvements and things kept (namely, Roger’s CarToon Spin although I wish they kept the fountain) make me happy it got some tlc and I can still hopefully someday finally check it out in person.

Tom, you forget one important thing. When you were a kid, the parks WERE more accessible to more families, so park exclusive things, made more sense. Now, just to do a decent visit, it's over $10,000 for a 10 day visit, that's just for TWO. That's $500+a day and that was staying a in value hotel and not doing all the activities and that's the cheapest you can get the tickets for on a per day basis at WDW and it's almost as bad at DL were it's 4 -5 day tickets.. So, unlike you now, most people don't have multiple thousands just to drop when a new "park exclusive" item comes out. So other than trying to find resale on ebay or etsy or something, getting these things on shop disney is the closest some will EVER come to a park or maybe they missed an item during their once in a lifetime trip. So now because they can't afford the exorbitant prices any more, they shouldn't be able to try and get a small taste of what they remember?

    • @WDWNT
      @WDWNT  ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@WDWNT Very elitist for you rich people. Might as well lock the gates and make it an exclusive club too. Not everybody gets all the perks of being invited to Club 33 or the former dream suites all around the world. So those who'll NEVER be able to afford to go, might as well be denied ANY access then? I normally like you videos but sometimes you and you're ilk (others like you who has almost unlimited access) don't seem to know(or care) how hard it is for many families to even get there if at all. So for a single dad like myself to have their child see something from a park in a picture and KNOW that face of sadness that they'll never be able to have it, because it's not possible just to plop down a few thousand and go any time we want to.

Great coverage, but I have to disagree with the Pandora prediction. They'd have to decimate half of the Cast Member area to fit it back here. That all just can't go away. The largest building here is the shipping & receiving warehouse. That's the building which houses everything needed within the parks so it's highly unrealistic for that to be moved
    blocks from here.
Looking at the satellite, it seems pretty obvious the area on the other side of that Toontown dead end was meant to be for a future Star Wars attraction, with that rectangular building behind it for a possible ride building. I know one of the original ideas for this spot was a new Star Tours building, which is "coincidentally" rectangular (in Florida). Most likely, I see this as the future home of the "new" Launch Bay (aka meet n greet). The America Sings building has to go at some point, whether for an Autopia replacement or Tomorrowland attraction (Tron?). I wouldn't be surprised to see a combo of the two things because it opens up a lot of space in Tomorrowland.
All that said, Disneyland does not need Pandora! DCA does! Far more than it needs some crap San Fransokyo makeover!

I do t appreciate any Rainbow designs in Disneyland. This park does not need to celebrate personal life decisions, that are not nature's intention. . That is youre business not mine.
