    Hello. I am a new subscriber to your channel. Thank you for all of the info. I'm in the research of my journey. I currently wear the Afro puffy twists, but about to schedule my consultation to begin my sisterlocks. My hair is natural and full like cotton, but is also fine and thin on top (as I am older). I'm a little nervous about how they are going to look in the beginning but you gave a good idea of how you covered the front of your hair in your beginning. Think I'll end up doing that as well. I'm looking forward to the natural journey with sisterlocks. Thank you again for your candidness.

    Your hair is so thick it looks like you have 52,000 sisterlocks. I’ve been interested in sisterlcks for a long time, but as I’ve aged and had to take maintenance medications, my hair is not as fabulously thick as it used to be and I don’t think I’d be happy if my hair came out looking flat. I’m too impatient to wait for the locs to start looking thicker. You gave out some really good information and now I’m thinking maybe i should just seek out a consultant who can tell me what can or can’t be done and what I can reasonably expect if I did decide to take the plunge,

      Hahahahah! You are funny!!! 52.000 LOL!! Yes, give it a shot. I hope that you can find a really good one whose a natural hair stylist who happens to also do sisterlocks. She will have a greater frame of reference for the health of your hair and your concerns!! Best wishes sister. Thank you for engaging the channel!

    Sometimes I feel the "brand name" of these micro locks makes me feel a certain type of way. Like it's a special club, and you have to follow all of these crazy specifics in order to say you have Sisterlocks. But I'm like you, I know I went to a certified consultant off the SL site, I paid out the wazoo for this head, sat for 3 days, lol. Child I don't care how many I have they are sisterlocks. I Have over 500 so the count isn't an issue with me. I Just feel bad for others that are made to feel like they don't have sisterlocks when they did everything right.
    I got sisterlocks because I like the look of small micro locks, I don't care what you call them? But it just so happened that sisterlocks is an established brand, so that is who I went to. It's great because they have perfected the craft of micro locks and you know if you go to them you will get a nice head of professionally crafted micro locks or sisterlocks. I do feel like there are pros and cons to having a consultant. It's nice to have a professional who has a birds eye view over your head and they can see better than you as to what's going on etc, as well as you can get tired of retighting your own hair. But I also feel that it can put you into a short of a bondage that isn't cool. With locks we should feel more free and the sister lock brand does have a lot of rules.
    For example, they can kind of force things on you that you don't want like the pattern choice. Or the sizes. You don't really have a choice of the size of locks you want. Depending on who you go to,(asking for micro or super small I get, they can break) But you can't go in and say give me all large or medium size sisterlocks. They automatically give you a combo. They are going to give you the sizes they think you need. Which is very different from traditional locks they give you the size you ask for, or the size you need depending on what you told them you wanted as an end result. But with Sisterlocks I feel because they have been taught this rigid brand formula, you can end up getting more of a cookie cutter sister lock look honestly. Them making you feel you have to take the retie class, and use their tool to still have sisterlocks. etc.
    But, thank God for the different textures, densities, and hair shapes that we have. It can gives us a different lock "finger print". I don't want to walk around looking like a sister lock clone. lol. Sorry I know I went off. But I see so much on line from people with sisterlocks and it feels like being apart of a snooty click sometimes. And I'm like child please. They are micro locks that someone was smart enough to develop a brand around.

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree with you 100 percent. That's why I say no one gets to say what I have. Also, I'll do whatever the heck I want to do with then and they will still be called sisterlocks, not because of some classified nonsense, but becasue I paid for them. They could technically say that because I reti my front sometimes with another tool, that I'm no longer in the club!! Hahahah...I dont think so. You make great points. As well, we should be able to choose the size. Honestly, I never liked the idea of having larger locks in certain places. I wanted all mine the same. I wonder if my consultant might have done that if I had known better to ask. You just dont know what you dont know when starting out, ya know. I think mivrolocs are just as lovely for less. Just like you, I simply saw sisterlocks and due to a lack of knowledge and then seeming to have a professional 'brand', it's what I chose. Thank you so much for your comments!!! Thaanks a lot!

    • @godsflame2
      @godsflame2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I actually went in asking about a different pattern, 3 vs 4. and size. And she told me what I was gonna get. I said, I know the 3 is givin to people with lower density hair to create more fullness. I have high density but I like really full fluffy hair so that would have been fine with me. But she kept saying that my hair would be standing out(and I was like that's cool! lol I like that) But me not being very savvy on sisterlocks I did't want to buck too much against what she was saying and have my head be jacked up you know? But I'm almost 2 years in and the more I thought about it, I was like I really don't want a super skinny tight lock which is what the 4 pattern is. I want it fluffier that is what I want. So last year around December, I changed my pattern to a 3 and I think it's looks fine? I also combined some in the nape and around the sides because they were uber tiny and started to marry making it very tedious to retie. I haven't been to my consultant in a while but I wonder what she will say when I come this month? But I feel like its our hair and we should be able to make some adjustments within in reason.

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@godsflame2 hahahahhaha.....go girl! Good for you. I gotta hear more about your story........yes, YOU/WE should get to decide your/our fullness, not her. As long as your hair can take it. See, my hair is thick and I think I would have died with a 3, and I had a lot of bunching. But I can see how over the years they are compressing and really tight. I just wish they would educate us ot consult WITH us more early on rather than just make these kind of important decisions unilaterally. Because without them, it can seem later that we are railroaded into something that later you want to kick yourself for or that you ended up going back and redoing something. So, your locks much have been super tiny, huh? All I would have wanted was to have my locks ALL the same size.... I wonder if that an option at all.....

    • @godsflame2
      @godsflame2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      LOl, girl this is not my first Rodeo with micro locks. I had a set of micro braids locks a few years ago, and I use to retighten them so I know how to do the rotations, but with sisterlocks there are so many it would be nice if someone could retie them regularly. I was actually forced to start doing them when I moved out of range for a couple months last fall. There was no one to keep them up for me, so I've been doing them ever since, and I was like well shoot, i'm about to do what I think is best for my head. lol. I invite you to follow me on @chawthorne3 on instagram I have a lot of my natural hair journey on there, I use to post on fotki back in 2009-201 4but facebook, instagram and other platforms took over lol.
      I have 3 different sizes small,Med,Large. My hair in the nape and edges are super fine and soft, so those were a lot smaller. Plus I told her that I wanted my hair to be full so that is probably why she gave me so many, there were about 550. But trying to retie those my self was getting frustrating so I just combined some in those areas.

    • @godsflame2
      @godsflame2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you are right over the years the tighter they get the skinner they get, so that is what I had in mind. Well you know I've been a 3 since December and it's really not that bad? And I got some thick hair. Right I mean, I think a lot of them have bought into the brand so much they they are use to that control over their clients head of locks. It comes standard. lol.

    Excellent advise. New subbie! Plan to get the install this June or july. My concern has been some of the things you mention and you have given me food forethought and put my mind at ease. I love the way you describe our hair as so unique to each of us. The Most High did that deliberately. TMH loves variety. I also love how this hair style is so unique to our culture and hair type that it is hard if not impossible to replicate. Looking forward to learning and growing with you. Peace be unto you.

    I needed this video. I have been in a funk for the first time since my installation. 19 months in. I have major bunching and I too also have a reverse 4 pattern. You mentioned how your locks are not the same size down the length of the lock, neither are mine and that is driving me crazy. My consultant told me not to worry, so I guess I’ll do that. Lol thank you for sharing. You gave me reassurance that this is a journey and my hair will keep changing for the life of my sisterlocks.

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I PROMISEA IT WILL. Dont worry. You will love it. KIT though along the way. Most of my variation in length is due to me opening the ends, pulling off ends that had too much cotton (for my OCD) and simply refusing to have those thick pieces on the ends. I hated that. Technically too, I know at any point as they keep getting longer, I will have to cut them so, eventually the ends will be thick again and even again. I do though prefer my straggly ends. Keep an eye on the bunching. Try to stretch it out after washing. Make sure you band. And be assured it will eventually compress. As u journey more you will feel more comfortable relying different things too. You will have REBEl locks!! LOL. Thank you a lot for your comments.

      queenbeethatme100 thank you for that response. At this time in my journey, I am self retightening. I actually cut the fat ends off a few months back and it is so much easier to retighten. I went to another consultant because my first consultant and I had schedule conflicts. The second consultant didn’t offer to correct them. She was also substantially slower than my original consultant. She mentioned that she was taking her time because it was harder for her to pull the fat ends through. Understandable. She advised me the pull on them while my hair was wet. That was not an option for me, I had roughly 600 sisterlocks when I started. I was not about to work through my hair doing that. So when my hair got to a length that I was okay with, I cut the locks in the top.
      I started with 5 in of hair. I did a big chop a year prior and my consultant told me I had smooth cuticles and dense hair. So much so, that when she was done, you could not see my scalp nor my grid. Due to that, I had a very hard time braiding and banding. It was a struggle and I think that may have played a part in banding. My ends were so thick.
      At the end of the day, I am over it, which is why I ended up cutting the fat ends. No biggie at this point. I’m just hoping that the ends that I did cut don’t start to unravel and I get the same result. Fat ends.

    I agree somewhat, but not all locticians are created equal and people need to know Sisterlocks fundamentals and do their research so they don’t get “scammed”. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery but when you don’t get what you pay for, its unfair. If you pay for Sisterlocks there should be no question about it.

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You have a solid point. There are so many diverse variables at play here. I thought it was worthwhile to create subsequent videos on things to look out for with locticians. I still feel there should be a formal grievance process that involves "corporate", simply due to the subjective nature of what any fellow loctician may say for what ever reason (personal motivations). With the amount of $$ we spend, a process needs to be in place and some effort to keeps tabs on quality control should justly be made. Thank you for engaging. I appreciate it..keep it up!!

You know your hair and are very educated!People have to TRUST us as the proffesionals, as you said who worked hard for our level And to TRUST The Processs since "Hair is Organic"!I have locked heads w/ different densities/Volume and can't do the same size or rotation on everyone. I locked one adult woman w/ a very small head & low density w/ damage, she was in the below the average but accepted it although she is in love w/ locs that are full & thick, so Our goal is to have her love her own thickness in time! We are taught specific rotations to make them look like their hair is full, specialized service which The Sisterlocks system technique provides!😏

I had to cut that mess out of my head... i went to the sister lock page an started looking again... Your locs are beautiful. However, I agree with the woman you are referring to. I paid $900 for 318 sisterlocks. I’ve since split many of them because my scalp showed too much. I’m also seeing a pattern with women with longer hair. I think these Lockticians make our locs bigger because it takes longer. It’s unfortunate that we get these people from the sisterlocks website and they don’t give us actual sisterlocks.

      Thank you. I understand completely, and I definitely think each person’s journey will be different. I was fortunate to have a loctician who I never had misgivings about during the process. When I did have her separate about 10 locks during my first retightening, it was clear to me that those locks could have been smaller, and that was my preference. She did this easily. This is why I always recommend, listen to your inner guide. Sometimes we see red flags and we suppress our feelings and defer to authority and yet these feelings keep coming up. Locticians are human and not perfect, so it’s so so important that you vibe initially and also inquire as to what process they have in place for corrections or grievances at the outset. This can help should a difficulty arise. We invest a lot in this hairstyle. I just don’t feel that after doing everything we are supposed to do, we have to accept being told we don’t have sisterlocks. Perhaps we can be told something specific needs a revision (if we so chose), but not that we don’t have sisterlocks. That’s traumatic! LOL! I think this would be the case with any brand name product (shoes, purses, etc). You might have a faulty or less than perfect product due to the seamstress or whoever put it together, but if you know you didn’t get a “knock off”, then perhaps the designer or producer can accommodate your dissatisfaction. Either way, it’s definitely an uncomfortable situation and something you don’t want to have to think about after such a hefty investment. Thank you for your commentary.

      Tunisia Ali I get what you’re saying. I blame myself for not getting them re-established and placing so much trust in the sisterlocks brand. My Locktician kept telling me 1. my locs would break if they were smaller (even though they were smaller in other areas on my head) 2. I had low density hair (even though during the consultation she said I had normal density hair when I asked her how that impacted the price) and 3.I have a small head!!! While I might have “sisterlocks” I think the sisterlocks corporate office needs to get more involved in who they enter into contractural relationships with and monitor their brand a little better. Especially since this hairstyle is NOT cheap! At the end of the day I’ve shown my hair to other consultants and they don’t agreed my locs were too large for sisterlocks in certain areas! If I was younger I would cut them off and start over :( Thanks for your time and it’s hard not to have loc envy when people like you are on TH-cam. Your locs are BEAUTIFUL :)

    • @tunisiaali4517

      Girl, I so agree. There should be a formal grievance process, similar to the one they have when "WE" talk about the technique or sisters have their sites'blogs shut down for discussing the patented process. This is quite an investment and a formal grievance process would protect everyone on both sides, the client and the locktician. As well, it would be the responsible thing to do. So much energy was put into the brand and protecting it, that this should be a logical step in the process. In this way, perhaps the BRAND could decide what went wrong, if anything at all and everyone would feel justice was served from the horse's mouth. If there are lockticians who in effect are tarnishing the brand due to lack of experience, etc., I (if it was my creation), I would definitely have a vested interest in that.

    Right-I use to color and sometimes henna on my hair and used conditioners as of result. My Locktician claimed the color , henna and conditioners could have caused the weakness in the middle of my locs - not all of them.i experienced a lot of shedding during that season
    Also ,my Locktician passed me temporarily to her assistant for retightenings not sure if this contributed as well. I’ve learned to enjoy my journey

  • @katrinayett5904
    @katrinayett5904 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dido-your locks are very nice and I appreciate your comment about not listening to a locktician stating to some of us that we don't have sisterlocks. I have been locked almost 4 years. Had to change lockticians during my journey and the current locktician claims my sisterlocks are more like brother locks because they are not very small. I have a grid and my locks around my edges are very small s ZI think I like my size locs. My question to you is have you ever experienced a loosening in the middle of a loc? I was doing Henna -sometimes coloring as well , but stopped. Not sure if this caused the middle of my locs to weaken or was it because I changed Lockticians? From your journey do you have any ideas on what causes a loosening in the middle of a loc. NOTE: although I stopped the coloring periodically I will find a loc with the middle thinning out

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's weird. In the middle of a lock unless perhaps at a reti, the same direction was gone thru more then one or 2 times. This would cause a hole. Wow. But, I am unsure.

    Your my hair goal length wise. I have 400 locks and I love tgem. I saw what I believe is the video your speaking on. I agree with you completely. I wanted to comment but felt best not to. In addition I’ve worn braids before paid 200 to one person then saw another’s person who’s I liked better and went and paid less there. Braids are braids, same thing with relaxers, weaves etc. There’s no exact science to it. I would not have changed consultants and just went to the original one and expressed my concerns and requested they be split. If she’d gone to a third person they may have told her something totally different. If it’s the same video she was only going to take the reti class. Her new consultant I don’t think is ethical and stole the client. Another thing is she never braided and banded her hair from day one, slippage and bunching were a constant occurrence, that’s why the first consultant most likely kept her with that pattern. So the dissatisfaction with her hair aside from the number was all her. Even that was too actually. The first consultant handled her well. Time will tell with the next one. Her hair is beautiful and will be so either way!! I sensed her sensitivity and didn’t want to bash her on her own page. Respect is the greatest thing, which the 2nd consultant obviously didn’t have but now she getting more money. Hustler. ✌🏾

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmmm...that's interesting. Ok. If that's the sisterlock guideline, then I think anyone with less than that would have a grievance. But I wonder what happens in cases where theres the rare instance where someone simply doesn't have enough to have 400. Also, provided everything else is done right then what? I would think if the brand were going to standby that minimum then wouldn't they need to be able to provide a recourse of action for those having less than that number..........thanks for the info. Hi Mrs.Tunisia i
    am Cocoared i saw your youtube i been told to join a sister Locs group I've had my sisterlocks will Mark 6 months December 20th 2018 I am a newbie definitely I was afraid to start a TH-cam channel about my sisterlocks because this is a uniform unique hair style and there's more of a spiritual natural hair Journey for me lifestyle I am a person that has always been the independent self-motivating person who always taking care of my own hair yes using years ago when I was chemical and Deuce I would go to different hair stylist to get my hair process and style I have been natural since December 2012 I went from 2012 to 2015 all natural the beginning of 2016 I put a chemical on my head by August up 2016 I went to the barbershop and have them the shape all my hair off to a female low fade cut that's what you see on my profile picture there I've been natural again for the second time is August 2016 up until today's date December 7th 2018 I got my sister locks installed when I moved to Arizona 16 months ago I absolutely loved it in Arizona it's more like a spiritual path healing Journey I'm reaching out because I would like to be a part of it sisterlock group Organization for motivation encouragement don't get me wrong I like my locks but I ran into a financial downfall and I have not been able to get my hair we tightened since the middle of October and I won't be able to get it retightening until January of 2019 but in the meantime I constantly take and keep my hair washed Scamp clean free of debris.

    What some people don't understand is that not everybody has the same hair thickness so for one woman she can do 400 and something for a woman with thinner hair you're only going to be able to get 300 or you're only going to be able to get 200 or you're only going to be able to get 100 because if you got any more than that in your hair be snapping off because it's unbelievably thin okay maybe not 100 but definitely like 200 and up stopping way before you got to 300 me myself I can only put 150 literally like 150 max if I made them super duper small but if they were not super teeny tiny small then only about 125 literally and that's all of my head

    You can have a Sisterlock pattern and not have Sisterlock's - I'm proof of that. The loctician who installed my Sisterlock's installed a combination of Sisterlocks and plats; within the pattern! I discovered it before my first retightening. She wanted me to do things that, in my year-long research, I couldn't find. BTW: I used her because she installed my best friends locks and she had them for several years before I decided to get them. After I didn't like how she wanted me to maintain my locks, I consulted another loctician, who discovered the plats. I took pictures against white paper the plats and Sisterlocks; you can clearly see the difference. I wrote Sisterlocks and they agreed; she did not install all locks in my hair. She had to refund me $300, was reclassified as a trainee, and I never went back; the trust was broken. BTW: my new loctician was a Sisterlock class and they were given scenarios and my scenario came up; not installing the product that the customer is paying for - installing a combination of plats and Sisterlocks!

    • @TunisiaAli
      @TunisiaAli  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes! Sure! If she placed plaits in there, then you certainly didn't get what you paid for. What a shame. Thats awful! Who in the world could do such a thing? Uhn!

Appreciate my loctician along with also knowing my hair. I'm tired of the are they SL or not. Now the Brand is saying if you are getting re-ties by a loctician who is no longer on the website, then you no longer have SL's! pffffff, give me a break! I like your rambling. It's informational. You are easy to follow. You speak naturally w/o a gimmick persona. How did the Kayaking go? As a Cancerian, I love the water! There was a couple times I had just got a fresh salon du; but then ended up at the beach and couldn't resist jumping right in. Always being one who knew how to do my own hair, got home & washed, blowdry, hot cure it myself. Actuallly, all I needed the beautician for was for the cut (but don't have to worry about that now w/my SL's!). Sorry, I know I'm wordy :)
