- Some 2002 NBA Draft picks would go on to have great careers, while others are either too injury prone or just plain stink and are forced to retire early. Today we go over what exactly happened to the top 10 picks from the 2000 NBA Draft. We cover how their basketball careers went along with where they are today whether it be in their personal lives or still having to do with basketball!
I appreciate how respectful you are of every player in these videos.
Virtually every other TH-camr is rude to the “busts” and role players. Like you insinuated with Nikoloz Tskitishvili, being drafted into a different situation could have made a world of difference.
Agreed, I appreciate the empathy and compassion for those following their dreams regardless of how it turned out ❤
a lot of people dont want to recognize the greatness of yao ming and like to talk about his height only, most of those people wouldn't know shawn bradley from the same era and was even taller than yao. and dont forgot, yao ming shoots the foul shot for houston, he was an incredible shooter. if he plays in the modern era he would be shooting the three and dont suffer injuries as much due to the softer less physical game. he had to go back to china to play for the national team for the olympics, asian games and other international competitions also, so this 100% added to his injuries.
That is true.. yao was the only asian player (so far) who i personally think was a problem. Like the footwork, movement, etc. he was calculative. Not reckless. Smooth jumpshot, Over %80 fts, mf was dunking on premiere centers. Every time he dunks on some1 i yell “y’all gon’ learn Chinese” 😂😂
Yao is a legend. No doubt about it
Shaq kryptonite
Not taller than Yao
shawn bradley is taller than yao, although only marginally @@jaydoubleuem
Wow, such nice words of Yao by T-Mac, so wholesome
Great video! Yao’s daughter goes to my son’s school. He is super nice but just doesn’t sign autographs anymore. Much love from China
That is awesome!
Yes he does . He just thought you're annoying
@@Youdoxxikill I got him to sign a jersey last month.
Bro you deserve so many more subscribers seriously! Your content is up there with those other creators, plus you go in depth! Seriously never knew how dominant Yao was in China until you mentioned his stats, keep up the great work brother! 🙏🏻
Hey I really appreciate the kind words! Thank you❤️
@@SweatbandSports you’re very welcome! Keep it up, turning on that bell 👌🏻
Hands down the Best swift breakdown of the long greatest anime of all time. Well done
Biased rockets fan but Yao Ming was some of the most exciting bball days I’ve ever seen. I miss him and tmac
it’s crazy how this is considered one of the weaker drafts in history and it still produced almost 5 times as many all-star selections (14) in the top 10 as the 2000 draft (3) had in total
Because the 00 draft is still the weakest draft in the last 30 years
You're comparing the 2 worst draft classes..
If Yao played that game against the lakers they could have won that series. Scola got hot at the right time too. I really wanted them to go to the finals that year.
Honestly, one of my favorite players of all time is NeNe Hilario, I'm glad somebody finally talked about him... such an underrated player with physical offense and his rough, hard-working interior defense... It's also crazy that he beat Cancer and continued to play far after that! Such a under-rated player
Yao Ming, 1st NBA player that becoming meme ambassador on social media 😁😁😁
I had never seen drew Gooden have hair
Have you ever seen his little patch on the back of his head?😂
@@SweatbandSports I have one as well make me feel good a duck tail
YAO was underrated .. for me personally .. i think YAO was one of the most dominant players to ever play the game .. hes difficult to stop, he cant shoot, he can pass, hes suprisingly agile for his size, and his IQ is also impressive .. i didnt mention his bread & butter, low post !! thats a no brainer ..
My birth year draft class!! Underrated
T Mac and Yao could've been a taller Kobe and Shaq duo. Injuries suck
So yao joined the nba in 2002, retired in 2011 then got inducted to the hall of fame in 2015. Crazy to think yao said he could've played until 36 instead of being in the hof if he didn't get injured.
Drew Gooden got passed like a blunt😂
i just met that guy today
Back then it was a vote system because he had the backing of a country in and outside of the NBA the people vote was a breeze
I knew the story of Jay Williams being in an accident but I never heard about the self-harm or depression part of it before. That's really sad to here, happy to hear he got through it. It's not a good place to be in, as someone who's been there before unfortunately. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.
I’m sorry to hear that. I’m glad you are still here❤️
He was the real deal.
you mad underated on some rs keep it up 💯
Appreciate you🤝
Nice content man! Thanks.
Of course! Thank you for watching!
Didn't realize Yao was only drafted a year earlier than lebron
Man I'm a diehard Celtic fan first and foremost, but my little brother had a weird obsession with Yao, so I followed his career a little closer than the average non-houston or non-Chinese fan and in my opinion, him and TMac always being injured at different times and never getting really a full healthy season in the league together remains an under-discussed what if. Injuries truly are a bitch and a half. I wish we could've seen a fully healthy Yao and TMac in their prime just as a pure basketball fan. Houston might've had an extra banner or two in their stadium if the injury bug didn't exist.
Well said
In 2007-2008, the Houston Rockets won 22 straight games.
Lakers messed up trading butler.. butler was such an underrated baller
!
he really was a consistent player
If you haven’t already could you do the 1996 and 1998 drafts? Some of my favorite players like Ray Allen, Kobe Bryant, and Rashard Lewis are in these drafts, thanks!
going down the list from 2000-2023 right now, but then I can backtrack and do individual full draft classes
@@SweatbandSports ok
Calling him ming instead of Yao sounds really funny to me
Swear his name is Ming Yao 😮
Nene is highly underrated within his years between his years from the Nuggets , And Wizards .
His best chance to win the championship was the 2017-18 Season.
Which is infamous for Cp3 injured in Game 6
⁶
I love this series man keep up the great work
Thank you!❤️
yao ming is my favorite player because he inspired so many chinese kids and teens that they could make it like me. :)
Nice with the older ones. Every other youtuber does 2018 etc like we all dont know where those player are
Yeah we will get there at some point, but have to start older
💯
Tmac and yao were never even a duo, they only played like 10 games together over the course of a few seasons, when one would be on the court, the other would be out, until they both went out
I mean, imagine the what if, perfectly healthy tmac and yao would at least get a couple championships
Tmac Yao Ming and don't forget Ron too, this was a very scary big 3. I'd bet my money on this over the Celtics big 3 if both were healthy.
@@Jay9966 what if isn't reality

Jay Will story is so wild til this day
Nene was good though for Washington and for my rockets
He truly was. I loved NeNe as a player. Your Rockets had Hakeem, Yao, NeNe and Capella. You had a string of great and good centers.
Yao Ming was so nice 🔥 🔥
Drew Goodwin getting pass around like a female
💀
"One of the best careers out of all of them...drafted by the knicks"
Me: wait what? That doesnt sound very knicklike
"He was immediately traded away to denver"
Ahhh there it is
😂 too good to be true
@SweatbandSports knicks would've converted him to SG and ruined his career or done sone other dumb shit. Ny pro sports is where talent goes to stagnate, fail or die
Now lemme go watch Aaron rodgers achilles snap in half and get ruined faster than his takes on vaccines and cry myself to sleep again
You might be my friends long lost brother honestly. He likes the Knicks and Jets, same shit every year
Where would Yao sit all time amongst big men?
Kareem
Shaq
Duncan
Jokic
Greek Freak
Wilt
Bill
Hakeem
KD
Dirk
-------------
Barkley
KG
Dwight
Malone
Robinson
A.D.
Ewing
Walton
Embiid
Top 15-20 once all the current players are done with their careers
Yao is a huge 'what if' but I still couldn't give much credit to his all star selections.
No doubt he deserved some, he still wasn't worthy of them all.
2010/2011 is the best example of that. He literally only played 5 games this whole season and not only was he voted a all star, he was voted a starter.
His rookie season is another example. He indeed had a solid rookie season but to the point of being voted a All Star starter over Shaq who had just won 3 straight rings and finals MVP still averaging about twice Yao's numbers? Hell nah!
Those selections were flued by the massive support he got from Chinese fans who would vote him anytime no matter what and since All Stars were voted by fans only back then it turned him into a all star starter lock every year even when he wasn't deserving of it.
Tskitishvili was just too early in every sense. He grew 6 inches from declaring the draft to draft night. He should have played 2 more years in Europe. Came over the class after Melo, maybe not be a top 5 pick. His style was perfect for todays game that favors the outside shot. Just played in the wrong time. Not everyone pans out though.
Damn dunleavy already looked like a vet as a rookie..
Yao Ming still injured.
Most of my time thinking faried was nene XD
But no kidding Nene was a good role player for his time , shame he wasnt a star or nor having a ring.
After the video u should do a re draft
It used to be a lot of ppl who didn’t belong in the league back then like Ira Newble….. WHO??? 😂😂
Disrespecting the GOAT Ira Newble! We can’t have that😂
That all rokie team😂
yao ming is the goat
Shaq dip in the playoffs against Yao was not that bad 😂😂wtf would you try to make it seem as if it was?? He averaged the same amount of rebounds 5 less points than his season average and he averaged more blocks
What about STOUDEMIRE!!!!!!
ming lol
according to tim donaghy, the rockets were cheated against the mavs in the playoff. they took yao out of the games with bogus calls
Well he would know a thing or 2 about that!
Are you crazy I watched them games… Shaq destroyed him
Compared to everyone else that he went up against, not so much
You gotta admit the overall quality of 2002 nba draft was quite bad, even including Yao Ming, who only played 7 seasons and made less than 10000 points in his all career (quite high by season), that is the only superstar level player in that year, and there is no need to talk about others get drafted in 2002
Should’ve mentioned how Caron butler chewing straws during games made the nba make it a rule that players couldnt cheer straws anymore during games. Just a fun fact lol
12 per game according bleacher report is wilddddd
@@SweatbandSports lmao i didnt even know it was that many. Thats crazy. Its like he still was teething 😭
Mike Dunleavy was on the Bucks for 2 years between his stints in Indy and Chicago.
Utah jazz da best
Nene was a dog.
