- This is an extended reupload, so you may have seen most of it. Due to some missing information and some assumptions from my part I decided to take down the previous version. This version also includes more background information about the Y function and a better demo of dual clock inputs.
00:00 Intro
00:35 T - Time/Rhythm
01:28 Gate length randomization
02:38 Hidden modes
03:55 Deja-Vu
04:43 X - Melody
07:18 Sample and Hold
07:43 Two Clocks
08:30 Y - Random LFO
10:28 User scales (note distributions) - เพลง
The crazy thing with videos like this is that I also watch it to figure out how marbles works. It's pretty hard to develop muscle memory for this one. So many options!
The urge to build a full MI rack is strong after these videos. Such a wide amount of experimentation and getting lost in patching due to the depth of the modules.
I think Mutable's module collection is one of the finest and most versatile available and they all work together very well. Pretty easy to build yourself a custom synth that can turn into anything.
The best demo I have ever seen until now. Wow, can't imagine all work it supposed. Thanks
Best marbles video I’ve seen by a long shot. Bravo!
Man I love your videos. Just wanted to say thanks because I realized I've went back to your videos so much during my learning & development with modular and your channel was one of the first I ever used to help my understand things. Thanks so much for the knowledge & inspiration & great work
Purchased Marbles after your first upload. Pairs well with my Bloom and Mimetic Digitalis. Random sequencing of random sequencers 😀 will use this video as a tutorial for further exploring. You're inspiring as always🎶
wow, this helped me so much to get a clearer picture if this wonderful module, thank you!
Not only is this an amazingly detailed and easy to follow explanation, but it's very well produced. Great work, and thank you, I'll get a lot more out of my Marbles thanks to this
Thanks for all these great videos. You made me get my first modulair stuff after binch watching your videos the last couple of months. Got me a Mantis with a Marbles, Stages and Plaits to start of with. Again, thanks for all the inspirational videos
Thanks. I didn’t even know Mables has any alternative modes. Great video.
Not only a very clear explanation of what this module (or its clones) can do, but also a very high production value. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the compliment!
Extremely useful to take me beyond the basics (beyond just patching in and out with the most obvious setups) and into the intermediate levels of Marbles (in particular a better understanding of the button settings and some use cases for them). Great production too, glad I'm subbed!
Thanks for sharing your experience, this one made my day today :).
@@CinematicLaboratory hehe :)
What a module! Beautiful video.
Freekin' awesome vid. Going on a vaycay next week, and first thing when I get back is get me one of these!! Party On!
Awesome video and module!!
Always helpful! I did end up purchasing a second Marbles, along with my third Tides. They are too darn handy!
Third Tides, wow! I also have three when I count the V1. And I have a second Rings coming!
Fantastic tutorial, i luv marbles. Best tutorial I’ve seen.
It was never meant to be a tutorial, I made it to refresh my knowledge about this module. I was playing with it and forgot most of all the button combo's and modes.
Had no clue about the hidden time modes! Gonna try those when I get home!
Another great tutorial and I learnt some stuff I didn’t realise !
Thank you and glad to be of help!
THANK YOU for this video🙂
Keep up the great work 😉👍
Thanks a lot,it helps me a lot ta have ur vids!! thank u again!!
Great vid and info. Thx!
awesome video! there's apparently more to marbles than I thought
I am not sure I know a utility that's deeper than Marbles...
what a nice video, thank you!
Nice tutorial. Thanks!
Hey man, thanks much .. having Marbles now, for awhile .. I completely missed/was unaware of what holding the "Y" button down does @ 8:30, of this. This appears to open up a whole new host of interesting choices.
I've owned mine for two years and didn't know about the alternate time modes. Returning the favour: patch an audio rate square wave into the clock and enjoy some chords turning noise depending on the deja vu and length knob.
I've read about it and I really, really need to try that. Thanks for reminding me!
So happy to finally find a video that doesn't use Marbles+Rings combo. :)
Nah, Rings must go to Clouds and Marbles shouldn't touch it :). But Marbles into Clouds is a must-try-at-least-once!
Another great video. Especially as i own one of those
Well, I’ve had one of these for more than a year, and I have to confess that it’s spent far more time out of the rack than in as I simply cannot coax any of the interesting rhythms or melodic goodness from it that others seem to- it gives me vanilla sequences and 4/4 rhythms every time. Clearly I must RTFM again and spend more time with it, but I fear I will simply become bored with it once more. Wish me luck!
Wow! Thx so much!!
Awesome !
Great Video.👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the visit
I've never been able to figure out what the Y output does. Thank you for clarifying it.
One of the most important reasons for making these videos is to force me to read manuals. To be honest, I had to revisit this video when I used Marbles after a long time.
Ok I want Elements now. Brilliant !
Ok, I must have done something wrong. This was about Marbles :).
@@CinematicLaboratory 😸😸😸
first :-) and so glad that you did that!
Mind blown at 9:30
That c minor with a c# instead of d, let’s call it d flat, is a C Phrygian mode. Assuming you were playing : C Db Eb F G Ab Bb C. It’s like an Aflat Major Scale starting on the 3rd note. To make it using all white keys you’d start on E and the result would be E Phrygian.
Agreed, but I also added the E which ruins the scale but sounds awesome.
@@CinematicLaboratory haha! So C diminished Phrygian? Yeah, that’s new to me. You gotta name it.
Brilliant video and explained things I was unsure about. Any chance you could do a pdf with all the handy tips that appear during the video ? I know it’s a big ask but would really help newbies like myself. 😎 stay safe !
Thanks a lot for your comment. Unfortunately I do not have the time and energy to make manuals or tip/trick books like Loopop does. I hope the original manual will be able to help you out and maybe you can print the PDF and add notes from my video.
@@CinematicLaboratory thanks I’m planning to do just that today 😎
Dice going backwards!
I rushed to buy Marbles after the first upload when you stated it was being discontinued, Is this not true anymore? That statement seems to have been edited out.
So are you going through some type of note quantizer at any given time here? (I see your using a key step as well) And yeah I’m a newbie OK I have rings plugged into marbles and it’s just playing OneNote randomly. And also very clearly by the statement I just made you can tell I am the newest of the new LOL
Also. Lol ya. I bought rings, clouds, plaits, marbles, ripples ,triatt , two Clep Diaz modules and a dual vca. And a make noise mult. Chipz is in there as well. Tip to anyone and everyone don’t do what I did. Ha. Cya ✌️
First of all, you'll have a great starter kit that can really make some music. Almost everybody starts with Rings odd/even going into Clouds L/R. Use one of the T outputs and connect it to Rings strum. Use one of the X outputs and connect it to 1V/Oct. Tweak some settings on Marbles and listen to what happens. I used the keystep to program my own 'set of notes' but Marbles can run on its own. When you got this running, connect a Plaits out into Rings IN and listen to what happens. And turn on the reverb on Clouds.
The only thing this is missing is an exploration of the different X modes:
- GREEN = all 3 outputs reflect the panel settings
- ORANGE = x2 reflects the panel settings for spread/bias/steps, x1/3 do the opposite
- RED = x1 reflects the panel, x2 does the opposite, x3 acts as if those controls are at 12:00.
I like ORANGE mode with the panel settings set to the opposite of where I'd put them in GREEN, so I get 2 melodic lines with one related random LFO.
That's not a criticism btw - it's a very deep module! Muscle memory is patch-specific.

How do you patch rigs into clouds? is there any deeper examples
is this the stock firmware?
Yes it is.
