    Purito is a Korean brand, and the reason the most Korean makeup brands have light and light to medium colors is that it caters to Asian skin colors most of the time. It's their audience. many companies are trying to improve on it even within the light ranges, but it is almost impossible to expect very dark shades because like I said, it is sold on Asian continents most of the times.

      I'm from Southeast Asia and I can tell you that many Asians, even Korean themselves, have darker and warmer skin tone and won't be able to wear any of the shades these Korean brands are offering. That being said, it's been the trend for decades to be light-skinned and wear 'tone-up' base makeups to achieve the lighter complexion look, especially in countries where the population is naturally darker skinned. Korean brands are sold internationally which means, their audience has expanded beyond South Korea. There are financial incentives for these companies to bring out more shade range. My impression is, they just don't care for darker skin tones.

      There's lots of asian people with darker skin, there's no excuse for colorism

      its kinda weird. the brand use black model on their website and instagram page, i'm guessing part of it because they want to appeal to a wider audience, but those model wouldn’t be able to use the bb cream.

    I’m neutral/warm undertone and light/medium complexion. I have the Purito snail bb cream (which I’ve heard is being discontinued and replaced by this Cica cream) and I mix shades 23 and 27 together and honestly - it is the best match I have ever found! And it’s perfect because I’m summer when I’m more tan, I mix more of the 27 for the perfect shade.

    I wish they had more shades. I have medium olive skin and am unsure if their darkest shade would be alright, so this was really helpful as i think it would be ok. Looks a bit orange though, might give it a go. I don't rely on BB creams for SPF though, even if they have SPF I still use a normal sunscreen or primer with sunscreen first. I don't think Asian brands from Korea and Japan would ever cater for darker skin, this is one of the very few brands with even a medium shade as more Korean makeup is just pale and fair shades

    It looks completely different once it’s rubbed in, so making a swatch like this is not helpful.

    • @AbbeyYung
      @AbbeyYung  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I find swatches are necessary to see the true color & undertone of each shade. The reason the one I’m wearing looks so different is because I used concealer, powder & bronzer to try to match it to my skin better.

      Yes i just watched another review where the girl used the darkest one since she needed the warm undertone even though her skin tone is light to medium. And after she rubbed it in it wasnt too dark at all. It basically faded right in.

    I bought the two light colors on Amazon about a month ago! I have golden undertone with oily skin. Pros: high coverage and smoothing finish. Cons: grey undertone and really hard to get off with the amount you need for SPF (oil cleansed twice followed by regular cleanser). I’m not wearing foundation these days, and I think this would be really heavy with a foundation on top (I didn’t try it). I did try using less and put the cerave sheer tint underneath. Helped the color, but felt gross. Overall for the $11 for an ounce was not worth it for me.

    • @AbbeyYung
      @AbbeyYung  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting that you had trouble getting it off! I didn't experience that. Agreed it's totally not something that would work under foundation- should be a replacement!

    • @swedishlina
      @swedishlina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It isn’t a sunscreen it is a BB cream meant to even out your skin tone and provide a light coverage. It is not a foundation as such, it to be used on top of a sunscreen not to be your only sunscreen product. If you want to use a foundation, just use a sunscreen and a foundation.

    • @caitlin7220
      @caitlin7220 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I was using a lot to try and get the sunscreen coverage, since it felt so gross with a sunscreen underneath. I didn't use it with foundation and I didn't mean to cause confusion about that. Lol my bad.

      @britnysnyder4991 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw another reviewer that didn't want to use the lightest 2 shades because of the undertone. So she used the darkest one since she needed a warm undertone. And even though she has light to medium skin tone, the darkest shade just faded in and didn't look too dark at all. Maybe you can try it. And she said if it did look too dark she was just going to use some white foundation mixer or sunscreen to sheer it out. But she didn't even need to.

    I just watched your review of la Roche posay sunscreen and one thing you missed is the ppd of sunscreen which is about 46. PPD of 46 literally means that it will take you 46 times more time to tan. Many European sunscreen like Garnier, cetaphil ( European version), avene and bioderma has good sunscreen with high ppd like 40. Even Korean sunscreen has ppd of 10 or 16 only.

    Hi Abbey, I appreciate how hard you work on these videos for us and, as always, I think you produce great content. I would encourage you to be a bit more moderate in talking up the possible healing properties of cica (and even other skincare ingredients in general). It doesn't have "amazing" healing properties. Purito's Centella Unscented sunscreen irritated my skin and made it bright red every time I tried to use it, so whatever propensity for healing and soothing there is in centella/cica, it is clearly not enough to offset the irritating/inflaming properties of the chemical UV filters. I actually think you do try to be more moderate when you talk about how these brands make "claims" for certain ingredients, and I think that maybe you were trying to be more positive on the ingredients side to perhaps compensate for the shade selection appreantly being horrible. I'm hoping you'll take this comment as a friendly reminder, not negative criticism. Thanks very much, Julie

    • @skinsciencebymira
      @skinsciencebymira 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She’s speaking on the evidence behind these ingredients. Centella is proven to be anti inflammatory and wound healing. That isn’t negated by your personal experience being different, there will always be someone who a product doesn’t work for. Organic sunscreen filters aren’t necessarily irritating either. Sounds like something in the product didn’t work for you.

    • @jcjccmz
      @jcjccmz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skinsciencebymira I just asked her to temper using words like "amazing" which are not evidence-based. I'm also a writer, which means I take words' meanings more seriously. Like your claim that centella is "proven" (to be anti-inflammatory and wound healing) is problematic, honestly. Scientific "proof" is a VERY high standard and probably requires dozens of studies published in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating the efficacy of centella's properties for healing wounds and inflammation. Can you cite multiple peer-reviewed journal articles demonstrating centella's wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties? I think you meant to say "shown." At any rate, I highly doubt skincare products contain any ingredient in the exact same quantity and under the same conditions as demonstrated in published journal entries. Using words like "proven" and "amazing" are just inaccurate.
      I do realize now though that this is a YT channel and many YTers exaggerate positive traits of things they review. However, it's just fallacious to think that skincare can heal wounds or sooth inflammation. If your skin is irritated and inflamed, the first thing you should do is probably stop 95% of the skincare you're using until your skin has calmed down for about 2 weeks. Any dermatologist will tell you that.

    • @skinsciencebymira
      @skinsciencebymira 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jcjccmz proven indicates something has been established by evidence, I didn’t say clinically proven for a reason. actually going into the level of evidence is a whole different discussion - double blind controlled trials are the ideal but just not practical for most OTC ingredients, it’s more common for medications. Not everyone wants to just use tretinoin and sunscreen yet may not want to just slap on whatever either.
      There have been two small clinical trials on centella and its terpenoids for scar improvement and improvement of fine periocular wrinkles as well as some studies on its anti inflammatory properties and benefits for stretch marks. And then there’s research on animals and in vitro which is more just helpful for elucidating mechanism of action, safety, and so forth.
      Is it as well established as retinoids or other skincare ingredients?
