I wasn't there in person but I did watch it live online. I remember them having a lot of audio issues through out the whole thing, and I remember feeling particularly bad for dice in the moment was probably one of the worst ones. As a Dice fan he did get robbed but not by the judges it was the audio problems at the event that robbed him. In The Moment watching it online they had 2 mic set ups and one mic was clearly better than the other and one the whole time they had to keep stopping the battles to "fix" it and never got it quite right.
I was there live. Something went really wrong with the audio of Dice, so it did not come trough.Dont know if it was his fault or a problem with the mic or his mix. But even then I clearly thought he had it cause Chris did some mistakes in his rounds and did not get the crows engaged. I was very surprised when they called him out to win this battle. His own reactions says it all...
also the sound was very different depending on where ur position was in the building. it might have sound good in the front but not in the back where the judges were placed
Anthony Ray coming in with the future knowledge edits is great. Glad to see that you're trying to get a more careful and accurate analysis of the rounds. Also, I'm glad someone is in the same stage as me with diving into the rabbit hole that is Beatboxing! Your beatboxing is getting better, and curious how you'll feel about GBB 2023. The theme according to Freddy and Hobbit (the live stream hosts) was that its more melody focused.
keep it up man, you're doing an amazing job as a reaction channel for the beatbox community, I really like your genuine interest in watching those videos!
For the MK2 question: No it was not only Rythmind who had it, it was all the participants of the Kickback Battles which took place few weeks before GBB21 (+ the judges, and Rythmind was one of them)… I think Rythmind, Robin, Frosty, KBA and M-Age had the MK2 for the GBB21
Tioneb is one of the only people I've seen counter in a loopstation as a mindset and not just coincidence of having similar tracks, I highly recommend watching his loop battles
(Mediocre) Producer's POV here: Reverb smooths out the edges of sounds and makes them blend together. Natural reverb isn't easy to deal with. The live mix has to be done different for almost any venue and that's why alot of younger bands that do bring a live audio guy with them tend to sound a bit muddy. Since the sound guy is used to mixing for smaller stages, mistakes can happen very fast. The problem with that isn't just the venue itself, the people in there are also a problem. Sound bounces off and breaks on every single person in that hall and crashes into other soundwaves which crushes details too. In this case there might have been extremely loud feedback noises n stuff which get louder and louder, overshadowing an entire (necessary) band of frequencies, causing such frenquencies to completely vanish
Answer: yes 1. according to other people who were there it depended on where you were in the hall 2. the crowd was vibing so much more with dice 3. even Chris thought he was absolutely going to lose
I was really sad that Dice had sound problems and didn't get further. He is one of my favourite loopers / artists in general and he will be in military for next year, so he won't be participating for quite some time. :( Just wanted to see some epic Dice rounds against other legends, would've been such hype battles

I guess what I don’t understand is how everyone in the crowd was also voting Dice! If the sound was different live which i also agree it was but how come everyone in the crowd said Dice won live?
Because Dice hype was real. He was number 1 wildcard from few months ago. On the other hand, Chris was only known to french community, having won the wildcard in 2019. Assuming beatbox got more popular during pandemic, it is understandable.
DICE's both rounds have lots of noise that's "unfriendly" and when he is rapping , we just can't heard his voice The video had make it sounds better you can see the judges face and Chris theOdien just do it simply but at least it's not that unpleasant
Both made big big mistakes but when I watched it on the live stream and Dice's rounds had so many audio issues where Chris was clean asf. Dice face and posture even looked shook at times when he would hear the feedback or mistakes. Love Chris Theodian and his music but its not best for "battle" rounds but he was just way cleaner compared to Dice this time.
@@red5250 100% and I would have been shook as well BUT Dice was visibly shooketh. @@axdx143 yeah chris hardly had feedback but it was all throughout both of dices rounds, really sucks that it looked like that was what made the judges decision
This is because the loostation artists had 30 seconds to 1 minute to soundcheck. Sinjos mixer broke or something and soundcheck was delayed by multiple hours and everything was behind schedule - this is unforgivable to loop artists. Explains why M-Age was in tears
Dice had his input gains too high for the monitor’s setup gbb21 . The sound live was extremely unpleasant and all of his cool sounds were not clear and had feedback at times as well. This effected a lot of the competitors and especially those with less stage experience like dice
One comment though: I don't necessarily disagree with the comments regarding the overall final decision, how much of the audio issues where on Dice and how much was on the venue and organizers, etc. ( As in, I do not think that most loopers can easily adjust their prepared sets to compensate for too much feedback and other issues: It is after all a looper battle, not a PRODUCER battle those came in last week) So the big however: Chris Theodian is **highly underrated** in my opinion: he might not be the best fit for a flashy, battle environment but he has a terrific style and extremely musical decisions that are very welcomed and ironically enough, usually highly underrated style even from other loopers that are well, sitting as judges here like Beatness.
That's not out and won't be for months: There was a version of some of the 2023 videos out but swissbeatbox already took that entire channel down and I suspect most songs will be taken down until they themselves release those videos, likely not until early 2024.
