Can this scanner be used to make a temporary prosthesis. I had all my teeth pulled and I have 5 implants on top and t on bottom. The dentist scanned my top and bottom temps. The he scanned my gums and implants. I really don't understand what he is up to. Does my story sound normal to you ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

yes the scanners can capture the data accurate enough to make a temp prosthesis. If your doc does'nt understand, call around and find someone who DOES have one. Or contact a prosthodontist.

Does the workaround via emailing records still work?

@@Straightsmilesolutions ah ok thanks for the update. Would you say the best bet then would be to 3d print the models and take a pvs still? 😔

@@808krisnip unless the patient is a severe geager I don’t see the point. Just take an impression on the patient.

Great tidbit of information here. I’m really in a dilemma about buying iTero scanner versus a Trios 3. But I hear that the Trios three has technical problems. And even though I’m in Canada I am 99% sure that other than the iTero and the Trios three there are no other current scanners that will work directly with Invisalign. another problem I hear with Invisalign‘s scanner is that they require a disposable tip that costs between $4-5 per scan and that’s plastic waste in itself and defeats the point as well! Not to mention that they charge $6000 a year plus tax and fees after the first year. When you combine that with maybe 30 scans a week x $4/scan. Daniel fees for maintaining this scanner are humongous. As of third-quarter 2022 is there emailing STL file still happening? What scanner do you think I should invest in not only for Invisalign but for patient education and lab fabricated restorations? P.S. I don’t want to switch clear aligner companies because I have the support of the local orthodontist and he is an Invisalign expert. I’m open to buying used equipment as well if it has support in Canada…. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Dr. Tal

HI! I am not sure about Canada but I do work with doctors there and I know they are at least using Trios. So are you saying you aren't doing ANY invis at all? (You are referring it all out?) if so, then I'd just go and try both of them but I've heard that staff like the itero better. It's more user friendly. My own husband is a GP and he uses an iTero for pretty much everything but he also does a lot of ortho so that makes sense. If you ARE doing invis then 100% itero unless you can get Align to put it in writing that you'll be able to use your Trios forever on your invis cases and they will never "pull the plug" in canada like they did in the US. That would be my biggest worry.

@@Straightsmilesolutions Thank you. Trios3 seems to work with invisalign everywhere in the world except for the USA. So that might be a good thing for us Canadians. I do about 6 cases of invisalign per year but I'm hoping that the set up will help me increase the number cases I take on. The idea is that the scanner will allow the hygineists to do more of the work. Saving my chair time for other things. My hygienist is well trained in iTero. I will be disappointed if she wont be able to use the Trios3 in the same way. But my understanding is that 3Shape has very good software which facilitates patient education. Why do you think the user experience will be worse with the Trios3 and is it a significant enough issue to pay more than double and be forced to pay $4 every time I make a scan?
