Man, Burroughs always has great song choices and arrangements, but this year was just phenomenal. I think my favorite number is the opener, but its so hard to choose!
The Dear Hunter is a PERFECT opener -- it has that like "fantasy" "old-ish" feel to like...like I'm thinking Steampunk without the technology (so I guess Industrial age? lol), and I'm thinking brown-ish/sepia scenery, for some reason the world of "Hugo" or "Indiana Jones" or something. Does that makes sense? Anyway, I love it! :)
An evil witch kidnapped all of the children from a village and turned them into crows to be sold to the gypsy king. When imprisoned, an angel comes from the heavens and releases them, while also teaching good moral the the gypsies. The evil witch is killed via eye pecking, and suddenly happy ending!
Well.. what do you think the show is? What do you get from watching this show? Powerhouse this year is very different than other showchoirs/past shows done. The Set designer said "Powerhouse is a 20 minute performance art piece. Look at it like modern art. Don't try to understand it, just enjoy it! Let the sights and sounds tickle and amuse you. Let your imagination take you on a journey that doesn't have to be mine. My goal this year is to convert people from saying "I don't get it..." to "What I got out of this was…!!!" I love hearing everyone else's interpretations!! That's what makes art enjoyable and ground breaking and emotional and worth it!" - Jen Oundjian
It starts off as kids are getting kidnapped by the witch Tar, the kids get turned into crows and get sold to the gypsy king, then when all hope is lost, the queen Andramada comes and gives hope and says they can fight back. Then the kids fight back and kill Tar and never really go back to their real life.
In essence, the children have nobody to follow, so they follow the evil queen. When they discover she's evil, they try to run, but they can't, and so the good queen has to free them and show them the light.
***** Oh, so kinda like she's lures them away and then they cant escape and the other girl helps them. And in the closer they do. That makes sense now. Thanks!
