    I'm loading up the chicken coop with kitchen scraps, biochar, leaves and weeds. All of this will be broken down by the birds into wonderful compost over time. I got this idea from Paul Gautschi, the gardener who stars in the Back to Eden film and have used it for some years - it works great. Adding biochar is a new experiment - I think it will load up with nutrition over time and make for some great long-term soil fertility.

    The charcoal is really good for the chickens when they roll in it to prevent red mite and fleas it’s also good as anti coccidiosis

    This is great, I can't wait until we move north and I can have my own chickens. My brother in law owns a restaurant and I hope to get table scraps from the restaurant for the coop too. We'll see if they'll do it. =D

    Question: Do you also feed the chickens a commercial feed?

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. I haven't been able to keep them laying without it. They'll be happy and healthy looking, but just quit producing eggs after about a week of being off commercial feed. It's a protein thing, I believe. Getting enough protein to maintain almost daily laying is difficult.

      Yes, that is a plus. The air comes through and so does the light. I think it's good for the birds.

      Thank you for sharing the link, I also bookmarked it. My husband is going through schooling to be able to manage the family farm/ranch with cattle and crops. I think this link will be beneficial for him to have access to.
