i’d actually be so interested in an episode of being trans and gay, specifically how a lot of trans ftm guys originally identity as a lesbian then come out as gay men. the science of it would be so interesting
I'm the youngest of three, my oldest sibling (sister) is straight, my older brother is bi, and I'm gay and ace, which is kind of funny, we just got more and more queer as she made more
There was one other detail I was hoping you'd mention, which is that reproducing takes a ton of time and energy, and in social animal species with large populations it's not necessary from an evolutionary perspective for every single individual to reproduce. It can be advantageous to have a pool of individuals who, instead of wasting energy reproducing, perform other functions necessary to the survival of the population as a whole. This would be particularly beneficial as the population nears the carrying capacity of the environment, and humans are not exempt from this.
True! I think he mentioned in in passing, but it is very intersting! Variations limiting the reproduction of individuals could still possibly aid their genetic kin, without the individual having to reproduce. Meaning it would be a tug of war of sorts, with the genetic parent being rewarded for carrying the unexpressed variant, but the variant-expressive child would not benefit. The variant-expressing child must make up for the lack of a reproductive descendant. That would almost be a form of eusociality now that i think about it.
@@stormillion5002 Yeah, there are animal species where the majority of individuals sacrifice their own reproductive success for that of others, such as in the eusocial insect species. Nobody would call honeybees an evolutionary dead end just because the workers are not constantly reproducing.
@@wokery For some reason my other comments aren't showing up :( I had made a whole thread about different studies on asexuality. One of the studies I mentioned (Yule et al., 2014) looked at birth order (and other things relating to sexuality such as handedness and finger length ratios) among asexual people, showing similar results to that of gay men: "Asexual and non-heterosexual men were more likely to be later-born than heterosexual men". I mentioned the sexual arousal studies (Brotto & Yule, 2011; Skorska et al., 2023) because those were some studies about quantitative measures in asexual people. In a very simplified manner, they showed that asexual men and women respectively reported a distinct pattern of genital and subjective arousal to that of non-asexual people (i.e. decreased genital arousal and lack of subjective sexual arousal), showing that it is a distinct sexuality pattern. I also talked about how asexual and bisexual people are under-represented in the research (literally the first formal study on asexuality was published in 2004 by Anthony Bogaert, that's how recent this is) and that I'd love to contribute to this field of research myself if I get the chance to go to graduate school bc I'm very interested in this topic But again, for some reason the comments aren't showing up😢😢... I'm not sure if it's the TH-cam filtering or a glitch?

I’m a queer male. I have an older brother but also a younger sister. Both are fantastic but maddeningly straight. I have high hopes of one day being a gay uncle!
I currently identify as pansexual but I've identified as gay for the last 10 years and I still identify with the label of "gay" sometimes. I have one sibling who is straight
You were pretty close on pronouncing fa'afafine - the glottal stop (apostrophe) was good and would speed up with confidence. The last 'ne' is like 'ne' in net. Impressed with your go of it though as many who are exposed to the word more frequently don't really try to say it right! Just to note - fa'afafine are not necessarily gay. Many western studies of Samoan culture tend to frame things from a western perspective and re-write the culture. Science tends to do that in the Pacific. Similar concepts of gender appear across many of the Pacific Islands who share collective values and ways of life - this is also carried into our populations in New Zealand and Australia so the number is a lot higher than you might expect (albeit still small in the grand scheme of things)
I'm gay, trans and an older brother, and my cousin is also gay. We don't live close to each other wich is quite sad cause he has so much more experience with homophobia etc and he could help me so much with it😭✨💅🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Thank y'all for such a fascinating episode! I listen to this while working out and it's just the right amount of stimulation to help me stay focused instead of getting bored (yes, I know, ADHD). I'm SO excited to see what the rest of Pride month is going to bring! P.S.: I would love to hear your thoughts on incretin mimetic drugs (like Ozempic) and weight loss. The literature seems extremely promising
I’m gay and I have an older brother. For the vast majority of human evolution we have no idea how same sex attraction, or “gayness” expressed itself, or the dynamics of human families in prehistory - before marriage existed. Could it be that humans in general did not form monogamous long term pairings? Could it also be that few individuals were exclusively homosexual, most being bisexual? If the genetic portion of “being gay” didn’t result in exclusive homosexuality, then there is no reason why it shouldn’t persist. Especially if it conveys other benefits - perhaps social ones, such as bonding a social group. Look at how bonobos use sex.
You guys claim there's no way to share genes between people, but have you been to a clothing store before? They've got plenty of jeans there and pretty much anyone can get them
4:02 Hasn't there been evidence that people who have been pregnant retain small numbers of cells with the baby's DNA all over their bodies, even in their brains, for years after the pregnancy?
10:23 i think that's a great theory. I also wonder if the institution of marriage and the way it was enforced practically with an iron fist led a lot of gays and bisexuals that would have preferred same sex partners to enter heterosexual marriages for the good of society, their families, their own self preservation, or their God(s)
I am gay, I have one younger sibling, but I also have a genetic disorder that only an estimated 50K people have, I am Autistic, have Hashimoto's Disease and Idiopathic Juvenile Arthritis.
So what about the bisexuals? I think we don't have to see this from a gay/straight side but from a side of being attracted to men vs being attracted to women. Surely this needs to be caused by differences in the brain.
I'm polysexual. If you take a broad definition of gay then I could be considered gay :D I do have a sister, but she doesn't have children (and probably never will)

Why is Corry so mean to his friends? At this point I'm only watching for Luke, Nick, and guests. 1. He often appears bored when others talk, and may interrupt or belittle them, but constantly needs the spotlight (so much that he's in most thumbnails while the others are just not.) If you follow similar groups online, ex. Danplan, you may have seen how often there's an exploitative party/dynamic 2. I'm SICK of how rude Corry is. It makes me feel like he needs to work on himself, heavily analyze why he shouldn't be treating his friends like this (ON THE INTERNET), and oh wow so much. If you don't think this is a problem, listen to the way these guys interact. In this episode Corry joked that Luke was an expert in eugenics. That's incredibly offensive. If you don't think so, go away, i won't try and convince you. In fact, he constantly goes after Luke, and Luke had to diplomatically navigate the situation because it's for the INTERNET. It's often Luke that stops Corry from saying super controversial/iffy things. 3. Humour. This is a show for attention. You have to be entertaining. And BULLYING IS NOT FUNNY STOP THAT. TL;DR: So my whole thing was basically one big point. To any stans, I don't feel like arguing my point more if you haven't noticed this problem, or aren't willing to look out for it.
