Thanks for sharing, Sylvia. In building off your solution, I bought 2 18 inch cones and one 12 inch cone as well as 3 1 1/2 inch PVC sanitary T’s, sliced them in half and stuck them on top of the cones to serve as my trike work stand. The shorter cone goes at the rear wheel.

That looks so handy and sure beats the cardboard box I used to use to elevate the rear wheel xx

Yes, I also have a collapsible small stepping stool I can use but it isn't as stable and takes up more room on the back rack.

Ty Sylvia. I’m 75 been riding 2wheeled bents for 13 years in Fl and Long Island,NY. Along with Phil Mix we started the C.R.A.B.S. In FL. The group is almost exclusively trikes now. I have sold my 2 Rans Stratus’ and now riding a Sunseeker Eco Tad with a Bafang 750. Love it. I run Schwalbe Marathon Plus 1.75 on all the tires but I have been concerned about fixing a flat on the rear. Up until now it was always to call AAA. But boy it seems you have come up with a great solution for the rear tire. I’m on L.I. Now in the snow without my trike so I can’t try the cone solution until I get back to Fl Jan. 4. I’ll keep you posted.

A couple of things, get the plastic cone, not the rubber ones. The rubber ones are much heavier and are used by the construction companies, cities and utilities (so don't steal them). I use a "yoga block" from Amazon. Very light and you have 3 sides of different sizes. They take up room with no increase in "storage space" is about the only down side. Glad you are doing well and riding. Hope to see you next summer.

The cone can also be used as:
    1. A wearable device in case you attend a wizard meeting
    2. A spare chess piece
    3. Ice cream holder
    4. Hearing aid
    5. To put on top of another cone if you are a member of the Royal Society For Putting Things On Top of Other Things
    6. To mark the new border after an invasion
So yes. Cones are really multipurpose.

Jack Stands, although not as portable, you can use one or 3 if you need to lift the whole bike, even on an old coffee table or work bench in the garage, tape foam or something to pad them to protect your paint.

Yay Sylvia! I see you're using your Rode mic. 😁
The cone idea is intriguing. I'm laying in bed and am too lazy to check whether it will work on my Trident right now. The Trekker has a unique suspension design with a curved swing arm, so I'm not sure the cone will work or not; I'll let you know if it does.
Up to now I've used a piece of 4x4 wood post cut to length to hold up the trike when I need the rear wheel up. I just stick it up beneath the swing arm pivot point. It's a bit unwieldy, so maybe the cone will be more secure.
I just noticed you have a Rohloff...I can't remember your mentioning you had one (maybe you did and my memory is just kaput 🤔) . How well does it work for you? Can you detail the difference of using it before and after you got the e-assist?

    • @TravelsByTrike
      @TravelsByTrike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I love the Rohloff. My only regret is not getting it installed sooner. It's a big upfront expense. The Rohloff works fine with e-assist too. There's really no difference. With the Shimano Steps, I have to change gears just like not having e-assist.

Replace that bungee cord and I don't use the type you have (multiple types of materials braided) for the reason that they have been faulty & dangerous I got a cord that is a solid piece of black rubber they last longer and cannot be stretched by hand to the point of breaking. If they are stretched very tight and break you have a flying hook coming hopefully away from your face but more likely into a gear chain wheel spoke etc it can create a great Mass do some serious damage to your bike and if it does come at you at that velocity it can be blinding scarring ropes and knots will vibrate loose but a solid black bungee with two metal galvanized s-shaped hooks that can be closed with a pair of pliers onto the cord and left with an open hook on the other end seem to work much better and without some sort of exterior Force I am not able to stretch that cord to the point where it will break it shows when the sun and time has aged the cord you will notice cracks soon as you stretch it you start to see the cracks and the possibility of having it fail is very apparent and you replace it to make it last longer I clean it once in a while with a baby oil softens the rubber protects it just a word of advice
