ALF follows the adventures of Gordon Shumway, a furry, wise-cracking alien from the planet Melmac who crash lands into the garage of the Tanner family. The Tanners offer him a home and give him the nickname ALF, short for “Alien Life Form.” Created by Tom Patchett (The Carol Burnett Show) and Paul Fusco (who also performed as ALF), the half-hour sitcom rose to popularity in the late 1980s, cementing itself in the pop culture zeitgeist.

Whoever wrote those lines was a pure genius.
Paul Fusco would ensure that ALF would get the funniest lines in each episode.
@@drewzuhosky6826 That was main reason for problems between producers and human actors - the puppet was getting all of the best lines. Sometimes, great lines that were originally written for one of human character were just transfered over to ALF. Not saying anything against it, but actors hated that.

Exactly just imagine if Max actually liked the show. Goes to show you his talents, playing second to a puppet and having to swallow that pill, all the while hating being on set. Yet still nobody could probably play Willie Tanner better than he did. RIP Max
I never understood why any of them were jealous of ALF (upset they had to play second fiddle). The show was called ALF. Not Willie, not Kate, not The Tanners...ALF. They ALL knew what the show was about.

Max Wright was definitely the best choice for the role of Willie. I wonder why he bad mouthed the show so bad when it was over. Sad really, it was such a great show 😊
Because he wanted to be the main character and Alf out shined him. He hated Alf. Even got into a fight with the damn puppet on stage

I think his beef was with Paul Fusco honestly. Because ALF is basically just a furry representation of Paul. Paul said he modeled ALF's personality after his own experiences at college. Paul was the pupeteer, Paul was ALF's voice, Paul wrote ALF's lines and Paul directed & produced the show. So basically Paul is a funny, outgoing, witty, sarcastic, incredibly talented and loveable frat guy that captured the hearts of millions with just his own personality and a puppet. And Max is a nerdy 'drama guy' from broadway that got cast as Paul's boring 'civil servant' side kick. Max is the kind of guy Paul and his Frat bros probably hazed in college. I honestly think it was raw jealousy and a bit of an inferiority complex to Paul. Max hated being ordered around by Paul and forced to cater to his greuling production schedule for a paycheck, only for Paul's creation to get all the love and attention. I think Max was the type to see the situation as humiliating, rather than embracing the positive role he played in it.

I never realized just how "rail thin" Lynn was. Skinny kid.
This is one of my favourite episodes. First season is the best! But it seems some scenes are missing, for instance where is that part with the dog catcher being a jobless actor?
Well, as my dad explained to me once, originally there were all the scenes. But when they aired it, that had to cut those out to fit the timetable. At the same time, when the series were sold to other counties, they were sold complete. That way whenever we watch Alf anywhere in English, it has some scenes cut out. But, for example, I'm a Ukrainian and I have a Ukrainian translated series - now, those are complete and there is the part about jobless actor there :)
I truly want there to be a blu-ray set of this UNCUT.
Btw, i m Ukrainian as well. I was born in Lviv. I was adopted though and have been in living in Canada pretty much since I was 2 years old.
I never learned how to speak my own language but oh well. It is nice to know that my country would have these uncut too.
I know. I have the VHS tape called "The ALF Files" consisting on TRY TO REMEMBER, ALF'S CHRISTMAS, and TONIGHT TONIGHT - all uncut on that tape thankfully.
I remember first getting the Lionsgate DVDs here in Canada and I could tell something was off with every episode. Im just gonna say this...F*** THE CUT EPISODES!!!!

Only thing is, Hootie and the Blowfish didn't exist when this show aired. At least they didn't record anything until early 1990's, after the show went off air
@@dwnl3493 The band was created in 1986, so it did exist at the time of this episode. However, the song was not recorded until 2003. However, the fact is that every single episode title is also a title of a song, so obviously there was another song also called Looking for Lucky.
