As a lawyer for 43 years, I can see numerous legal issues here arising from the Commissioner emphasizing marketing over safety, failing to ensure safety of players by encouraging rivalry and racism, failing to ensure integrity of the game by using inept referees. It goes on but I will leave it here.

The Dearica Hamby situation in Vegas. And now the investigation in Seattle. Showing up to the championship game in a NY skyline dress, many people saying the game was rigged. Yea the league has lots of problems, but listening to them it’s because of the Fever fans.
@ Hi Gregory, thank you for your reply. I agree there are a number of different points of controversy in the league and IMO different band aids could temporarily address each instance. However there is an overarching issue where the commissioner (and owners and coaches) have historically and jointly taken the “Anything Goes” approach to grow the WNBA and make it financially profitable. In other words, money (marketing) is more important than player safety and game integrity. It seems all the problems stem from everyone in power thinking they can say or do anything…the more outrageous the better. To save her job, the Commissioner needs to issue a statement upholding safety and integrity and denouncing racism. And then retrain the refs, demand the WNBA marketing director develop a new marketing plan etc etc. Perhaps a new way to pick the Olympics team (forget the old injured players who can’t contribute) and make the coaches take an integrity pledge. I won’t go on because there’s so much to address. Again, I agree there are many problems and IMO the commissioner needs to step up!
Odds are that if it goes like last season, the owners won’t do a thing about it or her, but if I had skin in the game, I’d sure be checking my hole card because when somebody gets hurt, that’s going to be one hell of a lawsuit for all concerns,
If I wanted to watch full on body checks I would be watching NHL not WNBA. Rivalries develop naturally and over time. It is not a rivalry between black vs white, straight vs gay, humble players vs high maintenance egos.

Marketing? What a stupid response from the commissioner. Caitlin Clark IS your marketing. Just open your eyes and see. With Paige Bueckers and Lucy Olsen next year and JuJu Watkins not long after, the marketing will take care of itself. The commissioner's job is to protect those players and make it fun to watch those games, and don't screw anything up. That's it. No Mom or Dad wants to bring the young daughter to a game (or watch on TV) to see blatant examples of poor sportsmanship, jealousy, and brutality. That's not what they want their kids to see. This entire bullshit about "it's a physical league" is just that - BULLSHIT. Start calling fouls control the physicality so skill and finesse can thrive.

I agree, safety should be the priority in all sports, but for years the WNBA and its players have been making viewership, higher pay, better facilities and accommodations the priority. It’s only now we have heard safety even being mentioned.

Look at what the LPGA did as they welcomed Caitlin Clark with open arms. Plus, with so many Clark fans asking for the golf game to be televised, and they did.

Larry Bird and Magic Johnson' Rivalry was not in any way, shape or form based on skin color Racism, only competitive play on the court. Exactly! Rivalry is great only if it is organic and a rivalry of skill. Larry and Magic were both skilled players, great friends, and never stoked any drama between them. CC and AR have very different skill levels, and well, AR likes the drama (because apparently people watch for her too)

All well and good, but there was a concentrated effort to injure Clark with head-shot fouls, stepping into her landing area after a jump shots and one intentional eye poke with weaponized fingernails.

Trying to use Reese vs Clark as a Bird/Magic like comparison, in the WNBA is absolutely criminal. Reese just doesn't measure up in any way. I will give that she rebounds well, but that is IT. Clark Does it all and very well. Englebert has not a clue. How she remains in that job, I will never know. If Chicago tries to put Reese to the front again, like Weatherspoon did, they will be at the bottom all next season, too. Reese is a fair roll player, but that is all she will ever be, if that, for any length of time.

Rivalries grow organically not manufactured by the media and the league. Prime example, CC v AR, they play different styles and different positions, the push of the dbl-dbl streak, yes it was impressive until it looked forced and became a joke. If you listened to the media, this was the most impressive thing to ever happen in sports. In the aftermath, the league looked ridiculous, a coach was fired (not entirely because of this), and a player was ridiculed.

Organic rivalries is the key they are missing. You get them from high level of play with consistent officiating. Lakers/Celtics did not happen because the NBA said so.

The facts point to the top immediately so many things were some obvious with the fouls, and no action. And when they did it wasn't addressing the problem on with other teams, and the peculiar thing was the same referees not calling and were within feet looking at it. Then the same referees call the same fouls against Catlin. And the stupid tech fouls. And it so happened with four teams and their celebration on the players on the bench cheering. It goes up to the top league owners, we're silent?? ESPECIALLY THE FEVER, THEIR IS SO MUCH GOING WITH SO THINGS IF WERE HAPPENING TO THE ELITE TEAMS THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED FROM ABOVE. THE same was happening with NBA earlier but eventually it changed once. Now you seen mutual respect among the NBA,!!! in retrospect, Larry, Bird, and Magic Johnson were actually a rivalry between players with the similar impact. Unfortunately, KCaitlin Clark is closer to Michael Jordan, emerging alone into a struggling league. Angel Rewsw is not exactly arrival, at least, according to her stats. She’s more like Salieri trying to rival Mozart. One destined for obscurity. The other for immortality.

For years, WNBA has been losing money and totally depended on NBA just to survive! If a team continuously lose then the coach and some players are let go so how come Englebert is still the commissioner?

Meagan Rappinoe needs to understand that the commissioner can't do anything about what fans do on X. She isn't the commissioner of X. She can do something about what platers do on social media, through fines and suspensions, but in a league where top stars, or even rookies, make more money from social media than from their basketball contracts she may not be very effective at that. She can do something about the referees. She controls the referees, and we have to assume she wants them to call games the way they have been.
The Commishner is not smart enough to recognize the problem.
She may have an Ivy league education that does not make her smart. She proves this Everytime she speaks.

Everybody has a "BOSS"! Who does Kathy Horseface report to? When critics say "the WNBA dropped the ball", who exactly is that? Does Kathy Horseface pretty much rule as a dictator, or do the team owners have any leverage at all? How did she get her job? Somebody had to offer the job to her, why can't that person or some committee step in to right the ship? With millions and millions of dollars at stake I find this very perplexing!
Great question! She reports into ownership which is a combination of the WNBA Team owners and NBA as a league (represented by their commissioner, Adam Silver). When the commissioner said the face of the league cant be one player because that "player can be hurt or injured and her career ended," I knew she was signalling the players she was ready to allow Clark to be injured. She was not going to stand in the way of the thug, semi-men.
To put Caitlin's first year into perspective I would like to see a video of every instance of her getting hit in the head. We know she she was subjected to 17% of all Flagrant Fouls called, but I believe she was violently subjected to much more than 17% of Head Shot Fouls. I am still surprised and impressed that she did not miss games due to repeated assaults. The Big Thing the commissioner should answer for is how can this be allowed and what instructions are given to her referees. I've played a lot of B-Ball, coached some, reffed some and watch some since the days of Bill The GOAT Russell and have never seen such a flagrant attack directed toward one player; please shine your light on it.
There were 2 flagrant fouls at least in the second tie of the playoffs,Caarrington and Maybrey and the free throws difference was very suspect

I believe the WNBA Commissioner and her staff need to be fired. The Referees need to be fired. This crap needs to stop now. Since the NBA has such a big stake in the WNBA, they need to step in and show them how it is supposed to work. Magic and Bird were rivals, but it was professional from the top down.
It is near impossible to play and win a game against and opposing team and "team officials" as well. Someone is supposed to be the adult. What i saw apeared to be money related. Many ignored fouls with an official visible in the background just watching. Shameful.

there is no way to stop any type of negative comments about players or anyone else on social media. easy solution is to don't read it. Boston, Clark and Hull have expressed that they ignore social media at times to avoid the toxicity.

Great question! While we do want CC to play somewhere she is appreciated, unfortunately you got that "Europe rumor" by watching one of those unscrupulous channels that were spreading lies about CC and the WNBA and proving their claims via badly photoshopped pictures. She has never gone to Europe, she's been clear that she wont play basketball in the offseason - opting to focus on friends, family, and golf. All her and the Fever's social media also show she's in the US having a great time. Just last week she was playing Golf in Florida. Other outrageous things those channels came up with are 1) Caitlin signing with Adidas (she has an 8 year deal with Nike), 2) Elon Musk starting a rival league (Elon Musk doesnt care about basketball), and 3) all the allegations about performance enhancers.

Yes! Next year KM comes back (she will be "cored" which means at least one year she is coming back) and the Fever has the cap space to sign 1-2 more star free agents. It really helps that CC, AB and Lexie are still on rookie contracts. Next year will be fun!
