Thank you for this! I must have viewed and studied this 10 times.
Some things to note for anyone looking to do this, as I have recently undertaken this project on my E55.
Start by removing all the fabric weather stripping and scuff plates. Just start there all of that is going to get in the way. Be prepared for anything plastic to break, its just unavoidable no matter how careful you are. I found that the scuff plates come out with less breakage if you gently pull on the weather striping. They just naturally come out with them.
@19:26 To get the sun roof shade out, the plastic guard won't break if you use something to pry it down first, then shimmy one end out. Not sure if it was overlooked but the rubber accordion looking pieces on each end also need to come out before you can move the glass back and the shade forward. I got stuck here for a while till I searched more videos on how to remove it. The shade will jam on those pieces so they need to be pulled out first. Be gentle they can also break. Once those come out the shade slides forward and passed the glass. The sun roof shade plastics are going to break, have new ones on hand. The OEM ones are sold single, they don't come in pairs so buy two.
The SOS button shattered on mine, just old plastic, I opted to delete the SOS button since it is useless. The hole where the SOS button goes is simply covered on mine now.
I had my sun visors redone as well. This is a great time to service the metal sliding pole and replace the vanity mirror housings. The metal poles on mine made horrible sounds, I used silicone grease. The switch inside the visor will be glued to the vanity mirror. I sued a hot air gun to loosen the glue.
@18:23 do not miss this part, the black plastic clip needs be between the headliner and the headliner board. Your Vanity mirror lights will stay on if this is not installed properly and it will drain your battery.
I was able to get my headliner out with the front seats in the car. I just leaned them all the way back. It came out the front passenger door, and back in reverse the same way.
@28:00 removing the headrests you will need to remove the insulation first to expose the openings. Doesn't seem obvious but you just make sure it is not stuck to any of the metal and gently pull upwards and it will hang down freely. It requires lots of patience and finessing. The black levers on each side of the mechanism are surprisingly strong, but use caution none the less. It's hard to describe but wiggle the headrest back and forth and side to side and they will eventually become free.
The rear deck has two small plastic push clips holding it in place (one on each end). Push the pin in through the middle, if you can somehow pull them out they can be reused, but I couldn't figure out a way to do that.
The rear deck is actually 3 pieces of fiber glass. The first one covering the speakers comes out pretty easy (once the pins are removed). The other two are glued together, and that is what houses the sun shade and the 3rd break light. In the trunk, after removing the 3 10mm nuts, the bolts need to be pushed up to free the sun shade. I recommend someone pushing up through the trunk and someone else inside guiding it out. I have yet to see an example of anyone NOT breaking the black plastic on the 3rd break light, so have that ordered and ready to go. I personally opted to use flat black vinyl/fabric paint to freshen mine up. I went with DupliColor brand, and it comes in a spray paint can.
Just because something didn't break pulling it out, does not mean it wont putting it back in. These plastics are old. I would recommend having some JB Weld on hand because for the most part you will not see it, all of these clips break in areas you will not see.
I didn't want to paint my handles and plastics so I just matched some suede as close as I could to the original light gray fabric. The pillars are carpet so suede and carpet would be an odd contrast. I had those recovered to match the headliner. I pulled out the panels and took them to a guy that does this as a side hustle, charged me $400 that included materials. He would have charged the same to remove the panels and install himself but I opted to do that myself. Maybe I am just anal, but wanted to make sure every screw, clip, nut, and bolt was accounted for. Plus if I ever have to go back in there myself I know how to get it done. I just didn't feel comfortable with the reupholstering portion, and I am glad I had someone else do that part.

I just bought a W211 E55 and the headliner material is completely missing... 😢 I'm in Hawaii so most car headliners fail after 10-15 years but I've definitely seen a lot of failed headliners in W210's. Anyway thanks for making this video.

I have a w210 1998 and I don’t have problem at all after 24 years. Also I see you have maybe a water leak inside the upper sunroof or back..also the rear roof light the plastic cover has some water stains in side..

Hey man, I'm planning to do this on my w211 but how did you cover the dome light buttons and sunroof button ? Because they have backlight and how to keep that clear, how to mask them properly?

I did this on mine as a diy. I ended up removing the SRS plastic peices above the b pillars, as well as the SOS button. I ended up pulling everything out and re covering with some dark grey/black alcantara looking material. The pillars came out great but the headliner it's self has some issues caused by my own lack of experience. I have a spare headliner as well as a rear sun shade kit that I pulled from a junkyard that I plan on having professionally covered. I didn't do the B pillars at first but I'm glad I did it now. Hopefully when all is said and done mine will look just like this. I ended up painting the grey plastic handles, as well as the dome light switch and sun visors. which worked great. However it's not wearing so well on the clips that retain the sunvisors when not swung out.

How did you paint the C pillar belt release plastic trim black (given that the belt is constantly rubbing against it) ??

Ah you just found it never rubs off …….. btw I know a company that 3d scans old merc plastics and then 3d prints it to superior quality to OEM
