  • This lift rocks!! This lift is the Roust-a-Bout 250 from Sumner. I've used Sumner clamps and jackstands before but I also knew what other tools they have... mostly from seeing their display booths at fabtech. So when I quoted this pipe job part of the job is getting the pipe on location and from previous work I knew a forklift would not be the best option. The best option is a slow controlled pick like a chainfall or overhead crane...something using rigging to hold the pipe securely. The Roust a Bout works in this way, it's like being able to hang a chainfall where ever you need to AND do that from the ground! This pipe is around 600 lbs per 21' piece and that makes it difficult to raise to elevation. This model is good for 1,500 lbs at 25' and that allows me to raise the pipe up to 19' to get it up and out of the way, easily. This lift has helped me work faster and safer!

That looks like a hairy situation, I'd been nervous as a coyote until that pipe was in the hanger bracket. Noticed the top end of boom had a little bow in it from the strain. I'm glade I'm retired and can pick and choose what I do. I believe I'd chose something other that this job. Thank goodness for guys like you Buba.

That thing is badass, seemed very stable for the small base and tall mast !

It is, there are different sizes, this one is the biggest. The base is big but it wiggles around everything pretty well. Thanks for watching!

Hey these two guys love that really nice 4 wheeled portable crane hoist unit you call Roust a Bout, you guys are really talented in your builds, thank you for sharing it with us, we find int highly inspiring even though we will never hoist that high here.

It says it can but I do not want to crank something that heavy, that high!! But I think it would still pick 1,000 fairly easy... thanks for watching!

This is what i used (on dirt LOL) to hang my trusses on my pole barn. 22' up, but only about 800lbs. the combination of all those factors made it feel thoroughly sketchy, but it worked out well.

@@jdbrewer6638 yes that's so true, now when I look back and think about it, we were so lucky that no was hurt. I also like how you use the softer kind of music on your other videos, I just think that welding is a violent trade and the softer music makes it peaceful and you kind of forget about the heat, sparks and other violent things going on around you🤣🤣🤣

is there (or could there be) any ballast added to the bottom? I'm sure at some point the mast is the controling factor but even a mini (not 20' lift) DIY version for around the shop could find some uses.
