Another thing oops, right at the beginning of ACiT, Qwark explains that the events of Tools happened a ''couple'' of years ago. Would you guys take a couple as 2 or 3? 3 seems a lot. My comment was based off the re-imagining. Ratchet was a total kid in that game, no sense of maturity and no character development at all. I hope Insomniac moves away from that personality, and finally gives us the true, and mature Ratchet we all know and love.
Yeah i completely agree, the movie got ruined slightly for me because it strayed too far off what it was meant to 'Re-Imagine'. I mean quark in the movie isn't half as goofy and dumb as he was in the original trilogy and the fifth.

R&C isn't told in real time, yet if it was, a 15-year-old Ratchet in the first game would be 36 in Rift Apart, wouldn't he? An upstart Ratchet being the bare minimum fighting age going on 7 or 11 adventures would take more than a decade would it not. As you've said months pass between adventures, and let's not forget about R&C's attempts at retirement as well as some comic stories between games. Let's not forget, before Ratchet starts his parade in Rift Apart he says: "We haven't done anything heroic in....years," years being at least 5. 5+ years between nexus and Rift, Ratchet would be in his 30s for sure. If I was calling the shots, I'd say Ratchet is 33 by Rift apart, seasoned, still in his prime, with many fights left in him (ask Alister the elder,) and if he does not seem to age, just say Lombaxes age differently. (Yes 8 years between the Nexus 2013 and Rift 2021.) If James Arnold Taylor can voice a clone wars era Obi Wan Kenobi (35-38,) then Ratchet can stay as he is until he is 40+. There, that's my take on this subject.
Great deducting at all. But there were two points missing i wished to hear: 1: Gadgetrons CEO (the guy with the holosuit) said that "employees discount only kicks in after two years". In RC3 we get a duscount if we have a memory disc with RC1-Data. That would mean, between 1 and 3 had to be at least 2 years, which may be just an assumption, but that is the point of this video, right? 2. In ToD, Tachyon (I still don't know how to spell this correctly) mentioned: "only two Lombaxes stayed behind. The dimensionators keeper - and his little son." Also we know, mentioned keeper was Ratchets father, and his mother died through the invasion. That means, Ratchet was already born while his species flew. But "and his little son" calles Ratchet being at most 6yo. Of course, losing his mother, seeing an entire population rotten out, and then being launched away from his father must have caused some psychical damage to him - or he suppressed this memory. This would explain why he never mentioned being from another galaxy, or Tachyon, or any other Lombax. So keeping that in mind, I am sure Ratchet would know his birthday, but how should he celebrate it? By gifting himself with mutated frog flesh as a super meal? I don't think so. Anyway, the video is very good written! Too bad I did not find it earlier.
Two years late but Tachyon said "and his infant son" so Ratchet could be 1yo when he was send to Veldin so he maybe doesn't remember his birthday or anything when he lived with his parents, but now I have a different question, did someone took care of Ratchet before the events of the first game after he was send to Veldin? Like he was probably 1yo when he was send to Veldin so he couldn'd survive on his own, heck he maybe he wasn't even speaking because in ToD we learned that he doesn't know the Lombax language
@@ondrajavorik1580 For Ratchets age, that was something I never knew, I just played ToD in german and there Tachyon litterally says "kleiner Sohn", which translates to "little son". So knowing he was an infant wesurely could assume he has no memory of the invasion, given Lombaxes have a similar brain aging process as humans. As for who cared for him while being stranded on Veldin, I have only a single clue: His "job". The backside of the first game (platinum edition at least) features a personal description of Solana's hero. There it is stated he works as a mechanist. Why tho? Perhaps from being surrounded by machines he constantly had to fix because they broke on him after a few years of service? That is my best guess and I have nothing to back it up since in his workshop we dont see anything helping him survive on the vast stone desert called Veldin except his Gadgetron Helpdesk. But we still could assume he at least learned interstellar language from there.
Fun fact: I was 15 when I first became a huge Ratchet and Clank fan. So I found it pretty cool that Ratchet and I were the same age as of the first game, especially since Ratchet's my favorite video game character, if not my favorite character ever. I'm kinda obsessed with him right now.
To me its not much, human years 17/18, but think planet year differences in our own solar system or years in game/movie or otherwise entertainment universes. We see him as 17, yes even the swearing bleeps in R&C1 for the qwark battle on gemlik vase and R&C2 Angela swearing at Yeedil at Qwark. While teen games somewhat I think, a 15-18 sort of character makes sense. Besides age ratings, I never know the years of R&C compared to most fans so I'd need to look at the wiki but still no matter what I have said. This video was really interesting I must say, not usually my thing, but timelines I find cool. :)
To be honest clank being so young if built in the first game with ratchet as 17-25 its interesting. Yeah a robot being knowledgeable stereotypes and all. A duo that fit even for logic that doesn't really needed to be looked into that deep but interesting to assume with what the universe of the games fives up as fans. I'm not into humanising logic of games but every so often isn't bad unlike insane fans. (Sad even happens but not too common in game communities I hope unlike how I know of the anime community sigh, logic is too much for some people). Great video though. :)

I think all you can do is speculate because Ratchet being born on fastoon and living on several other planets throughout the games would mean his age is all out of wack because each planet he's lived on has a different distance from it's star giving the year he's lived on each planet a different length.
I don't remember watching this one, but the thought of Ratchet's age came to mind while working on a canon related video for Rift Apart. And I just had to check it out to see if my assumptions lined up with yours. I actually didn't count Size Matters at 1st, but I was still close with him being 20-ish in Nexus. Now allow me to take things a step further. Since he's assumed to be 25 in Nexus, if Rift Apart took place 8-years after Nexus. Then I'd assume he'd be around 33-years old in Rift Apart....wow!
He's 22 in ACIT I believe. Tumblr's gone over this several times, and has agreed he ends at 26 in ITN, which means he's been active for about a decade. Of course, Insomniac once confirmed Ratchet was 17 in the first game...which was...stupid, because they also said he didn't age. However, this then was debunked after the livestream when they stated that he was in his late twenties after Into the Nexus (I think they said 27).
It’s so weird to think about that ratchet is now almost 30, he started as a young teenage and now he’s a fully grown person, if they continue with this ratchet and clank series and don’t reboot again he’s eventually gonna be in his 40. I think Ratchet has the Ask Ketchum disorder, locked to one age for the rest of his existence. Or maybe Lomaxes age like viltrumites, you develop until a certain age, then you got hundreds or thousands of years, appearing as the appropriate age group.
Honestly I see it as: The first game: 17. Going commando: 18. Up your arsenal: 19. Deadlocked: 20. Tools of destruction: 21 Quest for booty: 22. A crack in time: 22 (assuming that quest for booty and a crack in time takes place in the same year.) The comics: probably.. 23 - 24. All 4 one: 24 Q force: 25. Into the nexus: 26. Rift apart: 27... or maybe 28 if it was a 2 year time skip. The movie and ps4 game: 17, as the story is a retelling of the first game. I'd say that the age in deadlocked was in my opinion retconned. I mean, it's actually not uncommon to retcon stuff like that.
Is it confirmed that in the Solaris Galaxy a year is twelve months? I mean, that is something from the earth that means that it takes 365 cicles of sun to make a complete turn around the sun. So maybe on the solaris the time is longer so that could make it posible for him to be 17 in the first game. Idk

I had a R&C calendar back in 2010 with many of the main characters' birthdays listed... except for Ratchet. You're right, being an orphan I don't think he has a birthday (well obviously he does, it's just no one knows).
It takes two years for the Gadgetron employee discount which he gets in UYA so that does confirm two years have past since the events of the first game to UYA. Just like you said, they way he acted in the first game feels more like how a 90’s/early 2000’s 15 y/o would act. Another example, Max Goof from the Goofy Movie also acted like that and is around the same age in the movie. I think they mentioned “Recently” because it’s not everyday that the galaxy will be in that kind of danger, so they probably just meant recent in the terms of that type of events and not recently in years(?) Sorry if that’s hard to understand, I’m not that good at explaining myself.
Yeah it gets really confusing of how old Ratchet is because he looks younger than his actual age right now in the series but I believe he was 15 in the first game
I always believed that a Lombax as an alien can live long live span, so something like 18 years in R&C universe could mean something like 100 in human years, im saying that because in TOD cutscene(the treasures room) Captain Slag mentioned that its been a 100 moons(years?) that he last smell a lombax(since lombaxes disappeared?), also your R&C video are always interesting, keep up the good work.
The Lombaxes faced the Craigmites eons ago, the Lombaxes are pretty ancient species we can agree on that. If 100 moons = 100 years, he could have seen Lombaxes due to the fact they were still not under the threat of Tachyon, Tachyon wasn't even born. So Slag is old and rusty :P Tachyon's attack was probably 20 ish years ago. Remember, Ratchet was very young when sent to Veldin.
I don't know if this is still relevant, but a moon is month. Slag said he hasn't seen a lombax in 600 moons which is about 50 years. This would mean Ratchet is like 50+ assuming that we're going by a 12 month cycle.
My universe takes place around Into the Nexus, so Ratchet is a capable adult now. I'm still in my teen years (both in reality and the series) and Ratchet adopts me after our first adventure together since he's reminded of himself both currently and when he was my age. If we go with what you said, then Ratchet would have been my age in Going Commando/Locked and Loaded: 16.
We know for sure that UYA is indeed at least 2 years after 1, since Ratchet's employee discount has finally kicked in. Not sure, but I seem to recall several mentions of Clank having been missing for 2 years during a Crack in Time.

I kinda saw him more as 19 He's too competent to be 16 or 17. Hes a mechanic, a very capable marksman and fighter and financially supporting himself. He's immature but not dumb. So not quite 21 or 22. I feel 19 makes the most sense
I guessed he was still a teenager in the first game. But with the way he was acting in the first game, 15 sounds about right. Since you brought up Ratchet’s birthdays, let’s just assume they were celebrated offscreen or maybe the day Ratchet celebrates his birthday was the day when he was found as an infant by presumably Grimgroth on Veldin.

Wait I learned in science class that different planets have more or less days and longer or shorter days depending on there rotation and how close they are from the sun and the size so let's say Kerman is 365 day years while Veldin could have 475 day years and so on and so fourth for each planet this would also explain the farm planet in Size matters were every ten minutes it would go from night to day so in theory Ratchet's age depends on what planet he is on or were is hone is or how ever they keep track of time so Ratchet could be going off of Veldin days / years
I’ve just assumed that he was in his mid teenage years in the first game and by crack of time he was in his early 20s and now with rift apart in his late 20s since it’s clearly that they both haven’t been on an adventure for several years. I also notice how much more mature he is now, he’s not laughing at seeing a butt crack or getting angry all the time So he’s my age now 😅 Seems fitting seeing as when I first played ratchet and clank I was in fact 15

I mean you're comparing earth years to an imaginary game creature who travels to so many planets. 1 earth yr can = like 5 of his worlds years for all we know and that's more than enough time for everything to happen to him within "1 year"
Fairly sure the time passed between each game lines up with release dates. So if a game took 3 years to make, that means 3 years have passed since his previous adventure. That's why only a year passed during the PS2 games, and a bit longer on the Future saga.
I don't think that Insomniac wasn't really thinking about Ratchet's age when they made the first game until much later. And I agree with you that Ratchet was 15 in the first game; so now I'd say that he's somewhere in his early 20's or so.
I know it's a long shot but maybe we should do a collaborated video despite I'm not a TH-camr? I could appear as a one-off guest or something like that. I'm not sure if you know this but Ratchet, Clank, Jak and Daxter appeared as cameo characters in Everybody's Golf 4/Hot Shots Golf Fore. The strangest thing is Sly Cooper and Bentley didn't appear in the game as a golfer and a caddie respectively. So what if they were in the game? We could discuss about what kind of animations Sly and Bentley will have, whether it's idle animations, winning and losing animations, the animations for getting chosen from a roster etc, what their dialogues are going to be and so forth. Unless you'd rather do this solo if you're planning on using this idea. That's in case if you're running out of ideas. In order to unlock Ratchet and Jak, you must defeat them in VS Character mode. They're the last few characters you must beat. As for Clank and Daxter, you must advance through the golf tournaments before they will appear in the shop for you to purchase in order to use them. Ratchet and Jak are golfers whilst Clank and Daxter are caddies. To be honest, I'm not a Sly Cooper fan but I'm a veteran of the Everybody's Golf (or Hot Shots Golf series in America) series. Normally some PlayStation characters appear in the instalments as cameos except for the latest instalment of the series which released for the PlayStation 4 months ago.
He was most likely 15, it is said that R&C 1 to Deadlocked take place one year after the previous game. In R&C 1, The CEO of Gadgetron claims that you have to be with the company for two years for the discount to work. With Deadlocked most likely taking place a year after UYA, it is confirmed that he is 18 years old in Deadlocked, going back to year which is UYA, it would mean that he is 17 and there the discount kicks in, meaning if you go back two years which would be the first game, that would mean he was 15.
I honestly find that most of the info on Ratchet's bio in Jak X to be kind of sketchy as at least 3 out of the 5 bits of info is completely off and here's why: 1st his height was confirmed by insomniac to be 5' 1" when the Facebook user "Emi Kremer" had asked them (which also happens to be the same user who asked about his age) while Jak X states he's 5' 0". I would link the source on his height but TH-cam would mark this comment as spam like last time I tried making this comment. 2nd his weight in deadlocked was stated to be 97.5 pounds by Dallas Wanamaker when you're about to face off against Ace Hardlight and Jak X states he weights 150 pounds unless his armor had been taken into account. And 3rd his eyes which we can clearly see are green while Jak X states his eyes are aqua in the precursor alphabet which is flat out wrong. Really I'd rather go with what Insomniac Games would say about Ratchet over what Naughty Dogs says about him since his appearance in Jak X is a secret cameo. But when it comes to his age actually, who knows at this point since even the creators themselves are confused, and this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't messed up my question in that live stream when I tried to confirm if the wiki is right about how long a year in the Ratchet & Clank universe is. Also I myself at 1st thought Ratchet was about 15 in the 1st game and was about 25 in Into the Nexus when I did the research before Insomniac said he was 17. And one last thing I should say is that age doesn't always equal maturity but really Ratchet's personality would fit either way if he's either 15 or 17 since he's still a teenager.
Age doesn't always depict one's maturity you are right about that, I just went with the idea that Ratchet simply learned more throughout his heroic years. I like how you dug deep into this very interesting :) I too wonder how cycle works in their universe.
Your idea is a sound one since he was rather "rambunctious" (as Insomniac Games had put it in a stream) at first but started maturing in personality as the original series went on with AciT and ITN having some of the better examples of such instances. And it's this sort of development that makes it one of the reasons I like Ratchet in the original series and really it feels more organic compared to what his personality was like in the reimagining. Also when it comes to something I have a great interest in, I tend to sometimes go dig in to see what sort of information I can find as it's kinda intriguing and fun. As for a year cycle here on earth compared to their universal calendar, I'm going to take a guess that it could possibly be somewhere between around 3 times longer or just under 7 times longer that earth's using what info on the wiki there is on this subject.

I'm super late to the party here but there is an 8 year gap between deadlocked and ToD because Max Apogee was active and doing shit during deadlocked but disappeared 8 years prior to ToD. This, assuming that ratchet was 18in deadlocked which I believe seems right, would then make him 26 in ToD.

What sense does explaining a character's age make, if *years* are a concept based on a particular planet's rotation around its star(?) Or is there some way it is calculated within the game's lore that the video failed to explain/mention? And ofc - we all have to accept that advanced physics (like relativity) aren't a part of the game's world, just so we can assume that the time flows everywhere the same, because only then you could consistently and reliably keep track of the universal time... which would have very little practical use outside of trade and/or politics(?)
We'd like to believe that Ratchet's universe follows our planet's rotation. Piecing together the time gap between each game is what this video's pretty much about.
Judging from gaps that I’ve calculated by Nexus, Ratchet should be around 24. This is of course working under the assumption that Lombaxes age similarly to humans and don’t have weirdly long lifespans. This would also mean that Clank is only 9
Pointless videos are the best! Be proud of them. It does call into question the reboot. I guess the Galactic Rangers aren't concerned with putting a minor in danger. He felt 12 in that. Doesn't the plumber say "See you in another year or so!" in GC and then "Right on time!" in UYA? So we know a full year has passed between those two games.
If ratchet was 18 in deadlocked and the time between UYA and deadlocked is never specified this means that deadlocked takes place atleast 2 years after the original (more likely 3) as ratchets discount is effective in UYA meaning ratchet could be 17 in the first game
But, Secret Agent Clank takes place in the same month as Size Matters. I don't know if year is 5358 in Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank. I found that out on Ratchet and Clank wiki. Well Ratchet 2 happens 6 months after Ratchet 1 , and I don't know how long it takes from 2 - 3 ,but it could've happened really quickly so he could've been 17 ,but I believe he's 15 ,but was confirmed that Ratchet 2 is 6 months after Ratchet 1

But I think more time might have passed in between going commando and up your arsenal, since you can see in Aquatos that Nefarious has a buttload of Secret Agent Clank episodes standing in a shelf. I don’t think it only took a year to produce that. But hey, maybe space action episodes are easier to make in actual space xD
It's funny. The thought just randomly came to me a few days ago. Before, I said "soooo Ratchet is 15 in the first game." Then after seeing the one Facebook post saying that he was actually 17 I was like "oh okay then." But then i started thinking "What about in that one Jak and Daxter game where apparently Ratchet is 18?" And since he was wearing the renegade armor i can only assume that its Ratchet during the events of deadlocked. And it didnt add up but regardless, i came to the conclusion that Ratchet is at least 26 during the events of In the Nexus. Either that or that Insomniac employees was just kidding.
Is it possible that with devs joining and leaving Insomniac that maybe they originally intended him to be 15 but with old people leaving and new people coming in that idea got lost in the shuffle? Explaining why now they say Ratchet was 17 in R&C1? I have nothing concrete to back this up but I've always heard the people that actually worked on R&C1 have either left the company or they've been promoted out of actually doing any dev work themselves. Also all this talk of Ratchet in Jak X got me thinking. Can you unlock him in the PS4 re-release? I've only played the PS2 version and in that you needed a Deadlocked save on your memory card. And what about the Daxter characters as well?
The only issue I see with him starting underage is the weaponry he can buy without issue. In UYA, slim cognito says he got in trouble for selling a modified suck cannon to a 17 years old, he though he was 18, and that he needed to relocate to a more discrete area, and clank gave him a bad look for doing such a thing (selling weapons to minors) However, gadgetron and megacorp doesn't seem to have any kind of issue selling ratchet weapons at all, so I assume ratchet is 18 at least of the first game. Also, on the topic of how he acts on later games, he says he was stuck on veldin all that time, so he started really maturing once he got a better taste of the real world outside his homeplace

I hope after Spiderman on PS4, Insomniac Games start a new Ratchet for PS4. We need a new big epic adventure of Ratchet on PS4. The remake was awesome but it feels like "deja-vu" as it is a remake and just too short. I think continue after "In The Nexus" is the best option

You joke, but this is the hardest question of the saga: the Age of the main protagonist and the timeline. Thanks to the italian voice actor and seeing Ratchet answering in a rude way to Clank, i guessed that he could be under 18 of course. Also his movement in game... He isn't tactical, a more impulsive way of face up to the enemies. We can assume that at least 1 year pass among the first 4 game. But is a different year, with more than 12 years! Adding the info from Jak X with the idea that each game was a year apart, Ratchet must've been 15 in the first game.

An upstart Ratchet being the bare minimum fighting age going on 7 or 11 adventures would take more than a decade would it not. As you've said months pass between adventures, and let's not forget about R&C's attempts at retirement as well as some comic stories between games.
Let's not forget, before Ratchet starts his parade in Rift Apart he says: "We haven't done anything heroic in....years," years being at least 5. 5+ years between nexus and Rift, Ratchet would be in his 30s for sure.
If I was calling the shots, I'd say Ratchet is 33 by Rift apart, seasoned, still in his prime, with many fights left in him (ask Alister the elder,) and if he does not seem to age, just say Lombaxes age differently. (Yes 8 years between the Nexus 2013 and Rift 2021.)
If James Arnold Taylor can voice a clone wars era Obi Wan Kenobi (35-38,) then Ratchet can stay as he is until he is 40+. There, that's my take on this subject.

Gadgetrons CEO (the guy with the holosuit) said that "employees discount only kicks in after two years".
In RC3 we get a duscount if we have a memory disc with RC1-Data.
That would mean, between 1 and 3 had to be at least 2 years, which may be just an assumption, but that is the point of this video, right?

In ToD, Tachyon (I still don't know how to spell this correctly) mentioned: "only two Lombaxes stayed behind. The dimensionators keeper - and his little son."
Also we know, mentioned keeper was Ratchets father, and his mother died through the invasion. That means, Ratchet was already born while his species flew. But "and his little son" calles Ratchet being at most 6yo.
Of course, losing his mother, seeing an entire population rotten out, and then being launched away from his father must have caused some psychical damage to him - or he suppressed this memory.
This would explain why he never mentioned being from another galaxy, or Tachyon, or any other Lombax.
So keeping that in mind, I am sure Ratchet would know his birthday, but how should he celebrate it? By gifting himself with mutated frog flesh as a super meal? I don't think so.

@@ondrajavorik1580 For Ratchets age, that was something I never knew, I just played ToD in german and there Tachyon litterally says "kleiner Sohn", which translates to "little son". So knowing he was an infant wesurely could assume he has no memory of the invasion, given Lombaxes have a similar brain aging process as humans.
As for who cared for him while being stranded on Veldin, I have only a single clue: His "job". The backside of the first game (platinum edition at least) features a personal description of Solana's hero. There it is stated he works as a mechanist. Why tho? Perhaps from being surrounded by machines he constantly had to fix because they broke on him after a few years of service? That is my best guess and I have nothing to back it up since in his workshop we dont see anything helping him survive on the vast stone desert called Veldin except his Gadgetron Helpdesk. But we still could assume he at least learned interstellar language from there.
Fun fact: I was 15 when I first became a huge Ratchet and Clank fan. So I found it pretty cool that Ratchet and I were the same age as of the first game, especially since Ratchet's my favorite video game character, if not my favorite character ever. I'm kinda obsessed with him right now.
To me its not much, human years 17/18, but think planet year differences in our own solar system or years in game/movie or otherwise entertainment universes. We see him as 17, yes even the swearing bleeps in R&C1 for the qwark battle on gemlik vase and R&C2 Angela swearing at Yeedil at Qwark. While teen games somewhat I think, a 15-18 sort of character makes sense. Besides age ratings, I never know the years of R&C compared to most fans so I'd need to look at the wiki but still no matter what I have said. This video was really interesting I must say, not usually my thing, but timelines I find cool. :)
To be honest clank being so young if built in the first game with ratchet as 17-25 its interesting. Yeah a robot being knowledgeable stereotypes and all. A duo that fit even for logic that doesn't really needed to be looked into that deep but interesting to assume with what the universe of the games fives up as fans. I'm not into humanising logic of games but every so often isn't bad unlike insane fans. (Sad even happens but not too common in game communities I hope unlike how I know of the anime community sigh, logic is too much for some people). Great video though. :)

I think all you can do is speculate because Ratchet being born on fastoon and living on several other planets throughout the games would mean his age is all out of wack because each planet he's lived on has a different distance from it's star giving the year he's lived on each planet a different length.
I don't remember watching this one, but the thought of Ratchet's age came to mind while working on a canon related video for Rift Apart. And I just had to check it out to see if my assumptions lined up with yours.
I actually didn't count Size Matters at 1st, but I was still close with him being 20-ish in Nexus. Now allow me to take things a step further. Since he's assumed to be 25 in Nexus, if Rift Apart took place 8-years after Nexus. Then I'd assume he'd be around 33-years old in Rift Apart....wow!

Is it confirmed that in the Solaris Galaxy a year is twelve months? I mean, that is something from the earth that means that it takes 365 cicles of sun to make a complete turn around the sun. I think they mentioned “Recently” because it’s not everyday that the galaxy will be in that kind of danger, so they probably just meant recent in the terms of that type of events and not recently in years(?)

The Lombaxes faced the Craigmites eons ago, the Lombaxes are pretty ancient species we can agree on that. If 100 moons = 100 years, he could have seen Lombaxes due to the fact they were still not under the threat of Tachyon, Tachyon wasn't even born. So Slag is old and rusty :P Tachyon's attack was probably 20 ish years ago. Remember, Ratchet was very young when sent to Veldin.

I don't know if this is still relevant, but a moon is month. Slag said he hasn't seen a lombax in 600 moons which is about 50 years. This would mean Ratchet is like 50+ assuming that we're going by a 12 month cycle.
My universe takes place around Into the Nexus, so Ratchet is a capable adult now. I'm still in my teen years (both in reality and the series) and Ratchet adopts me after our first adventure together since he's reminded of himself both currently and when he was my age. If we go with what you said, then Ratchet would have been my age in Going Commando/Locked and Loaded: 16.

Wait I learned in science class that different planets have more or less days and longer or shorter days depending on there rotation and how close they are from the sun and the size so let's say Kerman is 365 day years while Veldin could have 475 day years and so on and so fourth for each planet this would also explain the farm planet in Size matters were every ten minutes it would go from night to day so in theory Ratchet's age depends on what planet he is on or were is hone is or how ever they keep track of time so Ratchet could be going off of Veldin days / years

Fairly sure the time passed between each game lines up with release dates. So if a game took 3 years to make, that means 3 years have passed since his previous adventure. That's why only a year passed during the PS2 games, and a bit longer on the Future saga.

I know it's a long shot but maybe we should do a collaborated video despite I'm not a TH-camr? I could appear as a one-off guest or something like that. I'm not sure if you know this but Ratchet, Clank, Jak and Daxter appeared as cameo characters in Everybody's Golf 4/Hot Shots Golf Fore. The strangest thing is Sly Cooper and Bentley didn't appear in the game as a golfer and a caddie respectively. So what if they were in the game? We could discuss about what kind of animations Sly and Bentley will have, whether it's idle animations, winning and losing animations, the animations for getting chosen from a roster etc, what their dialogues are going to be and so forth. Unless you'd rather do this solo if you're planning on using this idea. That's in case if you're running out of ideas.
In order to unlock Ratchet and Jak, you must defeat them in VS Character mode. They're the last few characters you must beat. As for Clank and Daxter, you must advance through the golf tournaments before they will appear in the shop for you to purchase in order to use them. Ratchet and Jak are golfers whilst Clank and Daxter are caddies.
To be honest, I'm not a Sly Cooper fan but I'm a veteran of the Everybody's Golf (or Hot Shots Golf series in America) series. Normally some PlayStation characters appear in the instalments as cameos except for the latest instalment of the series which released for the PlayStation 4 months ago.
He was most likely 15, it is said that R&C 1 to Deadlocked take place one year after the previous game. In R&C 1, The CEO of Gadgetron claims that you have to be with the company for two years for the discount to work. With Deadlocked most likely taking place a year after UYA, it is confirmed that he is 18 years old in Deadlocked, going back to year which is UYA, it would mean that he is 17 and there the discount kicks in, meaning if you go back two years which would be the first game, that would mean he was 15.

Why the heck does Ratchet have glasses in the thumbnail, and why does he look so good in them?
I honestly find that most of the info on Ratchet's bio in Jak X to be kind of sketchy as at least 3 out of the 5 bits of info is completely off and here's why:
1st his height was confirmed by insomniac to be 5' 1" when the Facebook user "Emi Kremer" had asked them (which also happens to be the same user who asked about his age) while Jak X states he's 5' 0". I would link the source on his height but TH-cam would mark this comment as spam like last time I tried making this comment.
2nd his weight in deadlocked was stated to be 97.5 pounds by Dallas Wanamaker when you're about to face off against Ace Hardlight and Jak X states he weights 150 pounds unless his armor had been taken into account.

Really I'd rather go with what Insomniac Games would say about Ratchet over what Naughty Dogs says about him since his appearance in Jak X is a secret cameo.
But when it comes to his age actually, who knows at this point since even the creators themselves are confused, and this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't messed up my question in that live stream when I tried to confirm if the wiki is right about how long a year in the Ratchet & Clank universe is.
Also I myself at 1st thought Ratchet was about 15 in the 1st game and was about 25 in Into the Nexus when I did the research before Insomniac said he was 17. And one last thing I should say is that age doesn't always equal maturity but really Ratchet's personality would fit either way if he's either 15 or 17 since he's still a teenager.
Age doesn't always depict one's maturity you are right about that, I just went with the idea that Ratchet simply learned more throughout his heroic years. I like how you dug deep into this very interesting :) I too wonder how cycle works in their universe.
Your idea is a sound one since he was rather "rambunctious" (as Insomniac Games had put it in a stream) at first but started maturing in personality as the original series went on with AciT and ITN having some of the better examples of such instances.
And it's this sort of development that makes it one of the reasons I like Ratchet in the original series and really it feels more organic compared to what his personality was like in the reimagining.
Also when it comes to something I have a great interest in, I tend to sometimes go dig in to see what sort of information I can find as it's kinda intriguing and fun.
As for a year cycle here on earth compared to their universal calendar, I'm going to take a guess that it could possibly be somewhere between around 3 times longer or just under 7 times longer that earth's using what info on the wiki there is on this subject.

I'm super late to the party here but there is an 8 year gap between deadlocked and ToD because Max Apogee was active and doing shit during deadlocked but disappeared 8 years prior to ToD. This, assuming that ratchet was 18in deadlocked which I believe seems right, would then make him 26 in ToD.

What sense does explaining a character's age make, if *years* are a concept based on a particular planet's rotation around its star(?) Or is there some way it is calculated within the game's lore that the video failed to explain/mention? And ofc - we all have to accept that advanced physics (like relativity) aren't a part of the game's world, just so we can assume that the time flows everywhere the same, because only then you could consistently and reliably keep track of the universal time... which would have very little practical use outside of trade and/or politics(?)
We'd like to believe that Ratchet's universe follows our planet's rotation. Piecing together the time gap between each game is what this video's pretty much about.
Judging from gaps that I’ve calculated by Nexus, Ratchet should be around 24. This is of course working under the assumption that Lombaxes age similarly to humans and don’t have weirdly long lifespans.
This would also mean that Clank is only 9

Doesn't the plumber say "See you in another year or so!" in GC and then "Right on time!" in UYA? So we know a full year has passed between those two games.

If ratchet was 18 in deadlocked and the time between UYA and deadlocked is never specified this means that deadlocked takes place atleast 2 years after the original (more likely 3) as ratchets discount is effective in UYA meaning ratchet could be 17 in the first game

Well Ratchet 2 happens 6 months after Ratchet 1 , and I don't know how long it takes from 2 - 3 ,but it could've happened really quickly so he could've been 17 ,but I believe he's 15 ,but was confirmed that Ratchet 2 is 6 months after Ratchet 1

Well done!! But I think more time might have passed in between going commando and up your arsenal, since you can see in Aquatos that Nefarious has a buttload of Secret Agent Clank episodes standing in a shelf. I don’t think it only took a year to produce that.

It's funny. The thought just randomly came to me a few days ago. Before, I said "soooo Ratchet is 15 in the first game." Then after seeing the one Facebook post saying that he was actually 17 I was like "oh okay then." But then i started thinking "What about in that one Jak and Daxter game where apparently Ratchet is 18?" And since he was wearing the renegade armor i can only assume that its Ratchet during the events of deadlocked. And it didnt add up but regardless, i came to the conclusion that Ratchet is at least 26 during the events of In the Nexus. Either that or that Insomniac employees was just kidding.

Is it possible that with devs joining and leaving Insomniac that maybe they originally intended him to be 15 but with old people leaving and new people coming in that idea got lost in the shuffle? Explaining why now they say Ratchet was 17 in R&C1? I have nothing concrete to back this up but I've always heard the people that actually worked on R&C1 have either left the company or they've been promoted out of actually doing any dev work themselves.
Also all this talk of Ratchet in Jak X got me thinking. Can you unlock him in the PS4 re-release? I've only played the PS2 version and in that you needed a Deadlocked save on your memory card. And what about the Daxter characters as well?
Yes you can unlock Ratchet in Jak X PS4, you need a save from the re-imagining :) For Daxter you need Uncharted save from the collection.
The only issue I see with him starting underage is the weaponry he can buy without issue.
In UYA, slim cognito says he got in trouble for selling a modified suck cannon to a 17 years old, he though he was 18, and that he needed to relocate to a more discrete area, and clank gave him a bad look for doing such a thing (selling weapons to minors)
However, gadgetron and megacorp doesn't seem to have any kind of issue selling ratchet weapons at all, so I assume ratchet is 18 at least of the first game.
Also, on the topic of how he acts on later games, he says he was stuck on veldin all that time, so he started really maturing once he got a better taste of the real world outside his homeplace

Ratchet 1 doesn't actually use the jak 1 engine, it just uses some of the rendering technology.

Wouldn't even know how Lombaxes age in this game universe, but he's obviously a teenager in the first game and has stuck to his early 20's since... (Counting out how he acts like an absolute child in the reboot. Uhg...) Odd way to make him surprisingly not age at all in the span of time and events. He suddenly just jumps backwards in terms of age in Rift Apart. I can't tell, his face just looks very childlike to the other games...

Thanks to the italian voice actor and seeing Ratchet answering in a rude way to Clank, i guessed that he could be under 18 of course.
Also his movement in game... He isn't tactical, a more impulsive way of face up to the enemies.
