This song was recorded and then filmed in my home studio. All the recording, mixing, mastering, filming, editing and uploading I do by myself in my little home studio.
At over nine minutes long, "Estranged", also known for its music video, is the longest song on Use Your Illusion II and Guns N' Roses' second longest song overall (after "Coma" from Use Your Illusion I). It has many verses, no set chorus, and several distinguished guitar and piano solos. Use Your Illusion II's liner notes thank lead guitarist Slash for "the killer guitar melodies", which captured Axl Rose's vision. Slash has specifically stated that recording the guitar parts for this song was very intensive for him; he recorded it using a Les Paul Gold Top, using the rhythm pickup with the tone turned all the way down.
According to Slash, the song was written while the band was rehearsing for an extended period of time in Chicago. Axl revealed that he wrote the song during a more "bummed out" time in his life when his marriage with Erin Everly was annulled.
🙋🏼 ABOUT ME: My name is Alyona Yarushina, or Aly. I was born in Russia, and I am a singer, a musician,
I play the piano and do many arrangements myself, I’m in love with 80s and 90s rock. In Russia, I played with several bands. One of them is the best Led Zeppelin tribute band in Russia called "Plumbum Dreams". The other one is called "Back from the USSR", where we played Beatles songs in my own arrangements. We played in Liverpool, England almost every year on the Beatles week fest. My dad, Valeriy Yarushin is my bass player in this band. He's a legend of Russian folk-rock and his band “Ariel” was most popular in the 70s and still is now. I learned a lot from him.
In 2004, I won the “International Hopes of Europe” competition in Sochi, Russia along with the “Grand Prix” prize for singing I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

Axl does have a 5 Octave vocal range, as a lot of other singers, and yeah this song is hard to sing because of Axl's nuances and interpretation (amazing) but he doesnt uses all of his range in here lol

My favorite GNR song. Hard hitting, straight in your face song. On YT, GNR credited Bob Dylan as the song writer
Because of the lines "now you don't talk so loud now you don't walk so proud" that Axl took from Like A Rolling Stone. They fit the song perfectly, and it's my favorite part of the whole song, but since they're exact lyrics quoted, he either legally had to give credit or just wanted to (or both).@kaushek7370
I almost agree with you, but I still say is Sweet child o mine. You can't do Rock history without that masterpiece. Not unlike, All along the watchtower, Ramble on, Satisfaction.

I've forgotten how many times, since the late 1980's I've taught guitar students how to play the GNR 'hits'. But I don't think I've ever heard this song, till you. I love your videos...
Imo this is probably their best song. The full version is like 8 minutes long and the video is also pretty epic. At the end when Axl starts “well I jumped into the River” is perfection. It’s too bad he lost his voice like he did. He wasted a lot of time being an asshole when he could have been pumping out music. The world missed out.

Thank you for singing this song! It hit me hard in ways I didn't expect. This is one of my all-time favorite songs and criminally underrated IMO. Over the years I've listened to the album version hundreds of times, but somehow your rendition took me right back to high school when I listened to this album to help get over my first love breaking up with me. I was able to feel my own heartbreak in your emotional delivery, as if you were singing to her on my behalf. Such excellent singing, and you have excellent taste in music too if I may say so!
