Currently reading Veblen's THE INSTINCT OF WORKMANSHIP AND THE STATE OF THE INDUSTRIAL ARTS...which traces the "entanglement of technological knowledge, workmanship, superstition/religiosity, and predatory profit motive" from prehistoric times (the effects of one on the other and what this means for each class and the forward movement on technological efficiency/advancement/stagnation)...this book is an excellent supplementary work for all those readers of Sloterdijk. Veblen was a very deep thinker and in my opinion a philosopher in his own right (beyond sociologist and economist).

beyond the "internet of things" and Gutenberg press...I introduce the "move-osphere" (H/G, agriculture/industrial work) the "stand-osphere" (service sector work) )and the "sit-osphere" (knowledge work) ...I believe THIS more than the infosphere is the true issue...it's the prejudice and disdain and repulsion of bodily work (dating back to barbarian times) that has thrown things way out of balance (between classes and between an individual's body, mind, and spirit)...I believe that self-driving cars and all the smart apps are destroying the body mind connection (although sexually repressive religions served as this "technology" long ago). I like Peter's take on "speed-space" ratio, and the answers truly lie in such movements as the slow foods, growing own food, DYI, etc. This may seem trite, but these activities just may be the sobering activities that we need to dry up our info-addcition. that is, information divorced of the meaning it holds for the outer contextual arena of life.
