I almost died here a few years ago, took a Walmart river kayak with current going wild, thanks to the fisherman who caught my shirt with his hook and brought me to safety!!
Had something similar happen when kayaking in Freeport where the waves were bad and swamped my kayak. Completely filled my kayak hull with water and practically sunk my kayak with full fishing gear like 600 ft from shore and 200ft from the jetty. Managed to swim it over to the jetty and drag it up on top. Thing must've weighed close to 300lbs!!
@@Ky-lb5ts at least you were able to swim the current kept pulling me, thank god for the people fishing that heard my cries, I literally saw my life flash in front of me
@@joshuasmith6686 I used to be a beach lifeguard so I'm a strong swimmer and also knew to swim diagonally to shore. (something about swimming diagonally helps to negate the force of riptide) Glad you're okay though! A bunch of people were watching me from the jetty and came up to me afterwards to make sure I was okay. A bunch of them said they were watching me struggle out there but weren't sure how to help
Next time hike down to those granite rocks. There's a boat gut to the left of them that produces big flounder and trout. And no snagging on rocks. Lol.
Mark we have anchored up across from where you are, it's 22' deep you wanna drop it all the way down and then get it off the bottom or you'll get hung up...best time to go is when the gate is closed
In 1958 used to fish there then it was called the skimmer Gates. Caught some of the biggest trout I've ever caught there happy to see that is still standing and it's still a good fishing hole

Wow I fished that very same spot three weeks ago on an outgoing tide - lost several jigs and broke a nice rod - what even I hooked dove for the rocks - those are some ankle breaking rocks - beautiful trout - great job guys 🙌
Quick question. I recently started using the Lews over my shimanos and diawas just for a change and I like how they palm. After a day or so they start having a horrible whinning noise to them like yours in the video. Why? Once I oil the brakes it goes away, but all do it, not just one.
Hey man I got a good questions. Taxes done and my wife told me to buy myself a good rod and reel. Already planning on an old 18 outfitters bouncy rod 7 foot light action. What saltwater spinning reel would you suggest in the 2500 size? Here is the thing I’m getting it for crappie fishing. Buying saltwater because I want a tank the will last years and years and years.
I have noticed in a few of your videos that your line touches your blank /or even passes thru it under load ,im no expert and please dont take this as a criticism of your rod preference but Ideally you'd want to keep that line off the blank under periods of heavy load. Maybe spin gear would be better for that kind of fishing .Its an issue when using light rated bait casting rods on big fish .Anyway love your channel !!
That's a big girl, nice catch, 👌🏽
Thanks 🤙
I see you put some work in, 👍🏽
It was a tough day, very slow.
NICE CATCH MARK!!! LETS GOO!!! I get pumped seeing trout that big! Lol

Very VERY nice catch!!! Gotta love them big surprises!
You got that right!
Wow looks like the big specks (weakfish) we catch up here in Long Island Sound!
Would’ve been nice to have caught a weakfish before I left NY.

Nice trout...The Texas City area can pay off. I caught my PB trout wading Dollar Point last November.... 27 incher!
Dang! That definitely beats my PB. I’m trying to find one bigger than 26.5”.
@@MDLRFishing Caught it on a Mirrolure Mirodine 17MR in Electric Chicken.
Wow that was a giant 🌮. Nice sheepshead and trout, I liked how you didn't know if it was the current or a fish! NICE!!!
😂 🍽
Hey friend, greetings, excellent video, a question, where can I buy live shrimp near that area?
Fish in a current are a fun fight.
They can pull like mules 💪
Solid trout!
Thanks Chris 👍
Great job brother!!!
Thanks!! 🤙
Y ese Reggaeton de banda Sonora? 🤣👍

They're big back in there by the rocks in the water big trout especially when the door closes they have nowhere to go 💪💯
Would be nice to get into something like that.

Use to be 30 foot deep by the gate but during covid they filled it in with anchor eating rocks to a depth of 15 feet. Nice catch
Thanks for the insight Joe 👍
Christian: Think it's a cat....maybe a big cat, no, it's red, you can see it....
Mark : it's a trout!

Mark - been watching and wondering. Do you ever get into any Mangrove Snapper? What about Triple Tail?
I’ve only caught one snapper in Texas City. No triple tail.

By the way the best fish in there is at nighttime at high tide we used to fish all night

Nice catch man, I normally fish the rocks on the other side. Always packed on that side. Nice to see you guys fishing from the shore line.
I just try to fish the current and tide.
How do you like your shoes on those rocks? Looks scary.
Very solid traction.
Fishing the floodgate under lights can be very good. You have to know what the current is doing.
We were saying that as we packed up to leave. I’m sure the mosquitoes would love it too 😂.
One of the great rewards of fishing saltwater, you never know what might be lurking in your fishing spot.
Definitely!

Them rocks are ridiculous.
Curious; why is a lock or damn system needed for an intercoastal/bay saltwater ecosystem?
Oops - dam (unless you got hung up. ;)
Hurricanes and storm surge.

Not sure man. I’ve never really noticed it. I do have a few that got wet from rain water and now are loud.
Have you ever fished the floodgate at night with the lights?
No
Plenty including myself have launched yaks there
I was thinking of doing this in the future.

Shimano Stradic or Vanford is what I would go with. I have no experience with Penn or Daiwa, so I can’t really talk about them.
What do you think of your fish finder? And would you buy it over again?
It’s a great unit. Yes would buy it again but with active mapping. Would like to see how that works.
