    Bright is right if it keeps me alive & well. I enjoy the earthly look but not as much as I want to avoid ending up in the Earth. :)

      I couldn't agree more (I wear mostly bright orange, yellow and pink jerseys) with bright daytime running lights. Most riders in Melbourne wear what I call "murder me black". My kids and I have a have game in the car which is finding the worse bike rider with no lights and the darkest clothes.

    Hi Chris, we should be promoting light bright jersey colours.Especially in this day and age of 'be seen, be safe'. Drivers find darker colours hard to see.

    • @sundayeightpm
      @sundayeightpm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point, however, research has shown that flouro and bright colours have no more visibility to drivers than dark colours. The research shows that is how the colour is 'broken up' that catches a drivers eye. For example - black jersey, white helmet and socks. The contrast between the 'patterns' of a rider silhouette is what gave the highest visibility.

    Please, please, promote visible clothing. In your video there was a theme of using darker tones. I ride in a safety orange Brooklyn jersey & it's uncluttered with an even textured design. It's not for everyone but at least use bright colours with symmetrical design. Complicated design even if bright, confuses motorists

  • @adamsims6490
    @adamsims6490 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I run daytime lights. And I also tend to lean towards the brighter coloured MAAP designs. The balance between bright & classy is hard to get right. I think MAAP do it best. However, I feel most let down with accessories (from all the big brands). Why only black warmers, gloves, rain jackets and gilets?? I'm never leaving the house in a black jersey (in Sydney its just too dangerous) but maybe if I had some red arm warmers might change my mind.

    As far as people with the biggest cycling fashion “cojones” are concerned, surely you should pay homage to Lee Hollywood Turner?!
    My current bib shorts colour collection: black, navy, slate blue, plum, deep red, grey and electric raspberry (summer only!). Don’t get me started on the jerseys. I have shoes in white, black, blue and khaki green. It does mean I have three different matching sets of helmet/sunglasses and gloves to go with the kit combinations.
    When I’m not on the bike I dress like a hobo.

    • @ChrisMillerCycling
      @ChrisMillerCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, Great call regarding Lee. Not surprised in any way shape or form that you have the colour palette down, sounds a little bit like me as well that off the bike it’s just a mess but on the bike it’s all I think about

    Good subject to discuss however bright colors should always be a part of cycling for obvious safety reasons.

  • @discbrakefan
    @discbrakefan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The earthy colour trend looks cool but it will pass. For me, having been hit by a car once (was not seriously injured), I will always tend towards bright colours just for the visibility.

    • @ChrisMillerCycling
      @ChrisMillerCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey David, I hear what you’re saying personally as a day light user I feel I can potentially get away with a little bit more, but let’s be honest this is a video about fashion not safety, safety is always the king

    • @discbrakefan

      @@ChrisMillerCycling Yes, fair enough. Didn’t mean to be critical! The fashion is nice and compelling, just the visibility thing always plays on my mind when choosing kit. Most of my rides are dark mornings or evenings so I guess that changes things.

    The only thing I will never understand is why anyone would wear a pro team kit. Usually doesn't look great and you're just a walking advertisement with a billion logo's everywhere. The amount of Jumbo kits I see here in The Netherlands is crazy.

    • @sharonmoller7414
      @sharonmoller7414 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The “no pro team kit” rule is just a cycling quirk and probably fading into history. If you go to a park in Britain you will see kids kicking a ball wearing a Chelsea or Liverpool FC jersey. Or American kids shooting hoops wearing a Lakers top. In Australia there’s plenty of fans who enjoy kicking a ball in the park wearing their favourite Aussie Rules Football team’s jersey.
      It’s good for the team sponsors getting more exposure for the money they invest in the team.

  • @MrJwmurph
    @MrJwmurph 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I always wear black shorts and tended to buy Assos jerseys. Assos are not the most flamboyant of companies so the jerseys are a sober mix of blue, blue with black trim, red with black trim, white with black trim, very boring!
    So my last purchase was a few Rapha pink jerseys and matching socks after the Rapha recommendation on this channel and I must say I love them! I think for a change I'll try the more earthy colours next with a dark navy shorts.
    The issue with accessories is that they're expensive, I tend to buy a helmet that matches my frame and a contrasting pair of shades. It's hard to vary the colour schemes of the shirt / shorts and preventing a clash between the helmet / glasses / shoes unless you go neutral on those items (all white might work).
    Any tips on what accessories are the most flexible in terms of colour coordination?

    • @ChrisMillerCycling
      @ChrisMillerCycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey John, thanks for the comment it sounds like you have it pretty much dialled in as it is. My only thing would be sometimes with helmets or shoes you can have a little bit of colour in maybe the trimmings on them that you can use across the rest of your kit. Bringing out a new pair of sunglasses for every kit is potentially a dangerous and divorce bringing practice

  • @nickobec

    Patterned bibs are so 2018 ;-) problem with patterned bibs or any post dyed lycra bibs is discolouration of a small area of the bibs. Happens to post dyed bib shorts too often (learnt by experience) and quickly ends their life outside. It would of been far better if you didn't use photos of patterned bibs from that US company with a bad reputation for delivering and used either Cat1 or Hunter Bros both from Melbourne, both with pretty outrageous kit that I could not see you wearing.
    Other bibs colours in now burgundy, teal and dark brown (though that is debatable), though not as debatable as white bibs being made popular by MVP

    • @nickobec
      @nickobec 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kit choice of your non typical 60 year old post MAMIL
      Bibs: black, navy, olive, charcoal, light grey (great for when the sun is beating down), burgundy, teal (with a purple on the way) and a couple of outrageous prints.
      Jersey: mainly solid colours includes a couple of fluros (orange, pink), pastels (pale pink, mint green), earth tones (umber, dark green, bronze, burgundy) and the standards navy, black and white. A couple of prints make it into rotation. But usually a solid colour which complements or contrasts bib choice.
      Shoes, I have a few pairs of Giro Empires in different colours, usually match the bibs or white.
      Helmet as per shoes.
      Socks, I have plenty of loud socks, but prefer solids, match jersey if possible, or bibs. Most frequent popular choice lately white, next black.
      Gloves: leather either white or black.
      Sunglasses: Being old means failing eyesight, so prescription insert behind a couple of different lenses in white or black frame.
