Milan was a main stop on the Erie Canal. That's why they made boats.

There’s something about the Ohio/Michigan area that my wife and I absolutely love. We are lifelong residents of Georgia, but strongly considering a move north. It seems like a lot of people take more pride in their homes in that area than here in Georgia. Also the foliage and grass is so beautiful! I know the winters are brutal, but given the heat and humidity we have here, we are both ready for somewhere cooler!

Honestly, the winters on the west side of Cleveland are not that bad. We get maybe one bad storm a year. We don't even have a snow plow. Call me if you do decide to move!!

I live in Las Vegas now but I spent 17 years on the Milan Township Fire Dept. and 12 years as a Milan Police officer. Beautiful town. I left Ohio 24 years ago for sunshine every day. 😂

Yes, Milan was known for building boats (schooners, actually). The Milan Canal ran from Milan (right behind Edison's home) to the Huron River, and on to Lake Erie. Milan was a great wheat-shipping port (reportedly second only to Odessa, Russia). The coming of railroads meant the end of significant canal/river trade.
