I was in a middle of a pretty bad depression when I discovered Tigran Hamasyan (thanks to my improv teacher) and his music was one of the things that pulled me from a very dark place. I'm so grateful that this music exists and it continues to be my go-to medicine for bad thoughts and one of the pillars of my mental health. Thank you.

I played music for 34 years and had a 20+ year career in the music business. I quit for four years after a frustrating human experience. I credit Tigran for my renewed passion and drive to create music and for finding again my true purpose. I'm back. Thank you Tigran.
@@UkuleleAversion Yeah, that's me too. It's kinda weird though, I noticed the first few times you listen to a new tune of him you almost instinctively feel where the beat is. At least roughly. It's like his music is rhythmically insanely complex but at the same time intuitively sensible.
I just discovered this music and all of Tigran's work last week, a few days before my father passed away. My father used to play the guitar but he wouldn't play it for quite some years while he was battling his cancer. In his last months he was starting to desire to play again and we talked a few times about playing together, although that never happened. The Call Within is starting to mean a lot to me and represents to me a lot of the feelings I have for my experience of witnessing my father's disease and passing away: tremendously complex, difficult to understand but deeply mystical and touching. I'm grateful for this brilliant musical expression, it nurtures my soul to allow such rich music into my life, especially in this difficult moment.
The structure of this song is so brilliant. It sounds like (correct me if I'm wrong) the piano starts off playing 21 in 7 bars of three and then the rhythm section comes in playing 3 bars of 7, then the piano picks up to match the rhythm section, and by the end of the song the drums and piano flip. It creates this intensity and chaos at first because the parts only seem to match up occasionally, then there is this harmony when they match each other, and eventually it winds down into chaos as they mix up again. It also gives the feeling that the piece is alive and growing and transforming before our eyes, it's really a genius song.
Yes I completely agree. It's these factors of unexpectedness, technicality & fusion that can make the concept of music (referring to everything popular and 'produced', as even the horde themselves like to call it proudly) into an actual art called music
WOW...The bar for genius just got reset. Not just the music, which I am obsessed with, but even his video. How beautiful to see the references to his Armenian homeland. System of a Down, Gor Mkhitarian, Johnny Berbarian, and of course Tigran.... How wonderful to see such great contributions from Armenians around the world..
If you enjoy the intersection of traditional Armenian music with experimentation then you may be interested in a musician named Lara Sarkissian. Its more on the soundscape/electronic side of things but I think its quite cutting edge.
