Looks much better in my opinion. There is a builder who does that and it looks much better than the original design since asymmetry always irritated me with the original.

I'm not sure how you hear "modern" or "high output", because these are very much vintage-voiced pickups, especially the neck.

Great guitar I like my DC-VI. I swapped the bridge for a Seymour Duncan Black Winter. I may do a black pick gaurd for that kinda look. It doesn't "coil split" like this but the x3 humbuckers are rad.
I've got one of these in Pelham Blue, I'm about to swap the pickup magnets for an Alnico 8 in the bridge for more output, a rounder high end, more mids and a tighter low end, and an A4 in the neck to sweeten up the highs so they aren't so bright. I'll also be switching the coil split for a partial coil split like PRS does.
I bought the black version after seeing this review, and I have the same response everyday-how can this be? With shipping from Germany to Utah $313! To say it exceeded my expectations would be a massive understatement.
I have the 24 fret custom version and I adore the single coil split on it. Sounds fanrastic for a vintage blues, slightly pushed ‘on the edge of breakup’ sound. I actually far prefer it over the strat sound. Then simply pushit back in and you’re back in humbucker zone. Brilliant guitars.
Since i bought my first Harley Benton sc custom ii P90s , i m in love with their guitars and prices. I have already order the Harley Benton SC DLX Gotoh Daphne Blue.
I just received mine in late December. I set the neck almost straight and lowered the strings to around 1/16" both bass and treble side. But the biggest and most noticeable difference in playability was achieved when I cut the nut slots properly. Now the guitar plays as good as, if not better than, a couple of my guitars that cost near ten times the price of this one. I REALLY like this Harley Benton DC-Deluxe Gotoh. It's loaded with great features and it just looks great too! I have the Daphne blue, non-gloss finish, and love the way the neck feels so smooth and does not get sticky. For those considering this guitar, I just wanted to mention that you may need to have the nut cut to get its playability up to its optimum. You may also need to steel wool the stainless steel frets because they are a bit scratchy from the factory (just remember to frog-tape over your pickups first!). Also, you may want to relocate the strap button to the tip of the upper horn so that there's no neck dive. Otherwise, it will dive like a submarine every time you let go of the neck! lol! After doing these things and putting on new strings, I can honestly say I'm happy with my purchase.
I have the H.B DC Custom, and it is a great guitar EXCEPT for the dreaded neck dive. I initially fitted wheel weights inside the controls cavity...it felt a bit better. I bought a wider strap...no noticeable difference. In exasperation, I realised it was the Grover tuners, they are really heavy, so I replaced them for Wilkinson tulip type tuners....now (at last!) it is playable while standing up.
27:15 but Gibson SG horns are not symmetrical either. The bass horn extends about two frets further than the treble side horn. It is real subtle but if you place a good straight edge on the frets across the tips of the horns, you will see what I mean. It shocked me when I finally saw it.

What is the cavity like on the 600... That's the 3 pickup right? Also does it seem like a regular full sized batwing guard would go on without too much trouble?
Don’t know how accurate these reviews really are - every Harley Benton guitar is amazing according to him - not my experience - I’ve had to do a fair amount of work on the HBs I’ve bought
It’s possible because they cut corners everywhere corners can be cut: 1. Low Wages to workers 2. Inexpensive hardware/parts 3. Wood sourced in bulk and not kiln dried as long as better instruments 4. Direct sales through Thomann 5. Inexpensive Marketing via TH-cam personalities instead of marketing via traditional avenues 6. Low quality control and quality assurance to keep the cost factor down further (less man minutes by far per each instrument)
@@TheGuitarGeek I’ll assume this is not a sarcastic question, but old outdated traditional marketing campaigns in the industry would involve considerable expense through old media of magazines primarily This would involve many tens of thousands of dollars for ad campaigns within just a single magazine, which would completely preclude any small company. Look at the guitar magazines of the 70s to 90s- the advertisement contracts are purchased by a relative handful of companies who could afford the gigantic prices. The prices were so high because the magazines were the only (not literally but essentially) game in town and ad contracts were done quarterly at best Now instead for the low price of just product companies can flood TH-cam personalities with gear which will be seen by orders of magnitude more eyes than the magazines could ever reach Don’t know if you are reading negativity in this but it is just a literal description of how things operate now, and I stand by each of the points
I brought my shell pink one on clearance for £150! If it was a dog I was going to strip the hardware for parts for my LP copy, im not changing anything, maybe the pickups but they sound great for low gain or blues. My only criticism is the screws are sharp at the top, the pick guard is a bit naff being thick single ply
I shouldn't come and watch your reviews because now I want it and I just bought a Yammy (which is nice) arrrghhhh! So many guitars so little time and money! Subbed..........
Those are a whole lot of good design choices by Harley Benton. Seating the neck deeper into a thicker body definitely make this less prone to dividing itself in half (see Colin's video on gluing his SG neck!). Now, lose the binding around the neck and headstock, give it two volume knobs, one tone knob and a three way blade switch, ditch the coil split, a single wrap-around tail piece and it will be perfect. Oh, wait a minute, I just described the LTD Viper!!! Oh, and bring the front strap button to its correct position. Sorry for rambling...
I'm sure Gibson knows there's a better spot for the strap button. I guess they didn't want to drill a hole there. They leave that up to you if you're brave enough.
Mine also came with a Gold pickguard which I put it on. I love it. I have some pricey guitars. This is one of my favs. Tesla Pickups have been around. I had a Hohner with Teslas and when I got a guitar from Dot In Shaft (Canadian company long defunct) I had an issue with the pickups and they replaced them with two Teslas. I have liked every pair.
An Underrated force of Nature Beauty there's something very special about the Headstock shape and the fact that is darkened or Ebonized rosewood neck, also the fact that it has the right tuners keystone shape i ll never have it any other way just give it to me on BLACK cos TONY IOMMI showed me the way and SG for President only wish the input was infront just like old Gibson style
Yessir! Coil-split. I stayed til the end of the video. For a nice fella like you and a great guitar like that one, yes. I watched til the very end. I gotta get me one of those. God bless you dear brother "accross the pond." ☺👍
I just got mine in today but it seems the high e string is to close to edge of fretboard near the nut which allows the high e to slip off edge from 1st to 3rd fret rather easily.
True story... I own a 70s Fender Twin amp and didn't realize it had a push pull master volume control for 20 years. Lucky for me it doesn't seem to do much.
I did some Videos on this Guitar here on YT as well. Never found the Coil Split? The Humbucker Middle-Position sounds like somebody accidentally switched the Phase? I could not cope with the heavy Neck-Dive at least mine had, so i sent it back - although i liked the sound.
I need it!!!! With "coil splits"... Its a beautiful guitar with beautiful sound! And I wont refer to it as an "SG" or "SG-style" but rather a Double Cut.. But either way, I MUST HAVE ONE!!! Also love to blue finish
ordered the Shell Oink. Cant wait to compare to my other SG - an Epiphone Tony Iommi G-400. Talk about polar opposites. Also have the Satin Black HB tele, which i love.
That's pretty darned cool. The white one looks ace too - white and gold.. MMmmmm - but I just don't need another guitar... do I. Do i? And wow - coil split!
I genuinely want one, SS frets on a 250 EUR guitar is already an absolute win for me. I wish they would ship on where I am though, though even if they did the shipping fee would probably be the same price as the guitar lmao.

5. Inexpensive Marketing via TH-cam personalities instead of marketing via traditional avenues
6. Low quality control and quality assurance to keep the cost factor down further (less man minutes by far per each instrument)
I am interested in your 6th point. What are traditional avenues and how much do they costs compared to TH-cam personalities?
@@TheGuitarGeek I’ll assume this is not a sarcastic question, but old outdated traditional marketing campaigns in the industry would involve considerable expense through old media of magazines primarily
This would involve many tens of thousands of dollars for ad campaigns within just a single magazine, which would completely preclude any small company. Look at the guitar magazines of the 70s to 90s- the advertisement contracts are purchased by a relative handful of companies who could afford the gigantic prices.
The prices were so high because the magazines were the only (not literally but essentially) game in town and ad contracts were done quarterly at best
Now instead for the low price of just product companies can flood TH-cam personalities with gear which will be seen by orders of magnitude more eyes than the magazines could ever reach
Don’t know if you are reading negativity in this but it is just a literal description of how things operate now, and I stand by each of the points
Great Guitar and great video, thanks.... Coil split!
Cheers!
As soon as I heard No Doubt I knew I needed this... HB #5
Hello. I bought this model but the Pelham blue instead. I’m more for glossy finish than satin finish. Thank you 🙏 for the review.
So did I in Pelham Blue...
Not a ramble but a well-voiced comment!
I'm sure Gibson knows there's a better spot for the strap button. I guess they didn't want to drill a hole there. They leave that up to you if you're brave enough.
1:46 Off set or asymetrical.
Very cool! Thanks for the helpful info Ralph
An Underrated force of Nature Beauty
there's something very special about the Headstock shape and the fact that is darkened or Ebonized rosewood neck, also the fact that it has the right tuners keystone shape
i ll never have it any other way
just give it to me on BLACK cos TONY IOMMI showed me the way
and SG for President
only wish the input was infront just like old Gibson style
Nice video and thanks for putting the guitar name on the video title
I just ordered. My 1st guitar was SG copy 45 years ago, now I have come full circle. Did I fail to mention Coil Splitter😅
How bad is the neck dive? (It seems that the body is thicker than the regular SG's....)
Just bought a HB ST-62 which arrived today. Now having second thoughts about this guitar and the coil split.
I have played some great ST-62 models but this is above all of them.
Great video (coil split) ☺️ I been looking at a few Harley Bentons and found this really informative keep up the great videos 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Yessir! Coil-split. I stayed til the end of the video. For a nice fella like you and a great guitar like that one, yes. I watched til the very end. I gotta get me one of those. God bless you dear brother "accross the pond." ☺👍
I appreciate that! Enjoy it if you get it.
Thanks for this. Ordered the Pelham Blue version! Coil Split! 🙂
I just ordered the same...... great guitar....great review
I love this colour on guitars. Sadly, if I buy this, I might mod the living shit out of this, even the "coil split" option :o ..
I'm a bigger guy (6'2 200lbs) so the thicker body doesnt bother me. I have this and it sounds amazing. Best 250 Ive ever spent. 👍🤘
Where did that no doubt inspiration come from 🔥🔥🔥
From the heavens! or the depths of my weird mind
@@TheGuitarGeek love it! We just shared a tab lesson so was curious if you saw it on your Ig! Love your channel man. Keep up the amazing content 💯🤘🤘
Delivered to the U.K. £199 and £186 “B” stock … I don’t think you can go wrong AND in stock 👍 coil split 👍
great review! but what about the wood? is it plywood?
I just got mine in today but it seems the high e string is to close to edge of fretboard near the nut which allows the high e to slip off edge from 1st to 3rd fret rather easily.
Thanks to this video thinking of getting this has my first guitar
That’s an awesome guitar and a great review 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 coil split
True story... I own a 70s Fender Twin amp and didn't realize it had a push pull master volume control for 20 years. Lucky for me it doesn't seem to do much.
Since the name Tesla does not belong to Elon Musk but Nikola Tesla I dont think Elon can prevent anyone from using it.
I bought the cheapest electric guitar Harley Benton make, it worked great , was tunable and playable . It cost about £65 brand new 😮❤❤
Just ordered me one on reverb for 220!! This is such a steal I couldn't pass it up :)
I did some Videos on this Guitar here on YT as well. Never found the Coil Split? The Humbucker Middle-Position sounds like somebody accidentally switched the Phase? I could not cope with the heavy Neck-Dive at least mine had, so i sent it back - although i liked the sound.
Thanks!
Great demo, super great guitar, and cool "coil split" I wonder why the LTD is cheaper than the DLX...
thanks. I am not sure about the pricing
LTD has nickel frets, not stainles steel.
I need it!!!! With "coil splits"... Its a beautiful guitar with beautiful sound! And I wont refer to it as an "SG" or "SG-style" but rather a Double Cut.. But either way, I MUST HAVE ONE!!! Also love to blue finish
Right on!
How’s the neck on it is it thick or thin cause I been looking at the black one but want it to be a thin neck
It's thin to medium.
Middle position is def out of phase. Either they wired it wrong or the pickups aren't matched in polarity.
Die klingt echt heftig,geeki👍🎸🔊🎵🎶😁
Danke!
ordered the Shell Oink. Cant wait to compare to my other SG - an Epiphone Tony Iommi G-400. Talk about polar opposites. Also have the Satin Black HB tele, which i love.
Did the COIL SPLIT make up for the lack of additional tone and volume knobs?
Bought it, Pelham blue. Great review. Thank you. Ps coil split, haha
That's pretty darned cool. The white one looks ace too - white and gold.. MMmmmm - but I just don't need another guitar... do I. Do i?
And wow - coil split!
you don't need it. You DON'T NEED IT!!!!! (but...)
I genuinely want one, SS frets on a 250 EUR guitar is already an absolute win for me.
I wish they would ship on where I am though, though even if they did the shipping fee would probably be the same price as the guitar lmao.
Harley Benton quality checking only involves putting a little _checked_ label on the guitar and possibly checking there isn't a family of meerkats living in it. I have seven Harley Benton guitars BTW.
😂
