It is super important that you use at a minimum a rubber/plastic grommet in the openings of your circuit panels at any point a wire passes through metal. Without some protective barriers the wire over time will rub on the metal cutting through its insulation and result in a short and likely a fire. Running full conduit is best, but grommets at a bare minimum should be used. Always think safety first when dealing with electricity.

😂 I’m sure you’re going to hear from every electrician that watches your channel about not having that wire in conduit. Love the DIY build of the earth dome house. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉👍👍

I noticed a lot of people commenting on the fact that he didn’t put a fitting on the electrical box when he ran the wires into it, listen to everything he said he’s just putting it in a temporary it’s not even hooked up it’s just so it’s not hanging on the floor, he also said he had to get some electrical connectors to go through the box before it’s done.

just a thought but having those fans a fixed rotation one sucking and blowing in the same room /level to level you could put bidirectional fans in and change the way the air ciculates for time of day and time of year

  • @GreenTechFusionRenewableEnergy

Electrical dude… got to have conduit between panels to run those naked wires so they don’t short or get scraped on sharp edges. The air tubes are great idea and like others have mentioned, if your pushing air up or out you need an air input or you will have vacuum affect. Another good idea you have for winter time air transfer from the future greenhouse as well. On the cool air side for summer, def run that tube underground for about 20ft or so which will help cool the air. Being in the shade is not going to do much but the earth is constant temp and cool all year round. Also add speed control on your small pipe fans as they will be noisy.

How to drill a larger hole Into an existing smaller hole? Cut the larger hole completely through a piece of scrap wood then center and secure the scrap, with the larger hole, over the smaller opening and secure the pilot to the floor or wall, it will guide the hole saw, apply light pressue.

I think you can get drain covers that would fit on the 4" pipe. They would act as a vent cover. Just pack the mud around them . remember the smoke alarm and co2 alarm. Canvas stretched and stappled to the ceiling joist Then painted with a primer and a paint - much like stretching a canvas. Although it would stretch tight like a drum- and the first time a mouse ran across it at night might scare yah.

Radon gas is heavy and might stay at the bottom of the lower level. You might have a pipe extending from the bottom of the construction to the outside, with a fan in it, to push the lowest level gas to the outside, well away from the doors and windows. I think radon gas might be found in your area.

I am curious as to why you don't have your ventilation tube go to the outside? You could have the tube some distance from your dome and with a downward hook to the tube so no water can get in. With a screen at the entrance and the fan in the tube as it enters the downstairs room. It would get fresh air in and if buried some distance from your dome it would regulate the air temperature coming in too.

Romex isn't rated for burial, If you are encasing it in dirt it should be run in conduit. The service entrance should be in conduit to the box and between the main and sub panel as well, Single conductor wire isn't even rated for inwall installation. Please revisit before energizing any of that as it is very dangerous.

For the next dome maybe look into a geothermal system to provide air flow and give you some cooling in your hot summers, and heat in the winter. You already planned the basic concept it appears but use tubes underground to get below the frost level.

    • @baddog9320
      @baddog9320 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

There is a lot to geothermal.
Its not as easy as people think.
Drill a 200 feet plus hole isn't easy.
..... I know you see people talking about it. But it like running an alternator to give free electric with another alternator motor. It's not real......
Best and closes is as they have done. using soil or building underground.
Until you go down hundreds or sometimes thousands of feet there is little change.

What is the frost level in the Arizona desert? At parallel 58 in coastal Ireland the frost rarely exceeds one foot or 30 centimetres. In northern Canada it is much deeper. I’m unfamiliar with the severity of the winters where Jessica and Jim live and they may have harder frosts than I realize.

      Cold and heat are subjective.
It rarely get to 0 degree.. I don't know what that is in Celcuis.
Key about the desert. Due to lack of wate, temperatures range widely.
I've seen days that daybreak is 32 degrees ( 0 C) And midday is 100 degrees.
Usually its not that vast. But it is wider then other places

Do you plan on natural ventilation from outside going into the cellar and then eventually exiting the loft? Maybe a thermal pump?
Eather way you are right it is a crucial aspect. If you look at some of the early Earthships, they are plagued with mould caused by the humid "greenhouse" area. Not good for healthy living! ..... I am sure you guys researched all that though! ;o)

I would take the cooling tower/Earthship approach of running ~10" diameter geothermal tubes into the lower room, with some hot air exhaust vents around the top apex of the dome.
As the day's sun heats the dome, the hottest air inside rises out the top, drawing in fresh, geothermally cool air into the lower room. Electric free, convection HVAC, as well as the benefits of your thermal mass.
You could still core drill through the walls at underground level, then dig outside to add the 10" geothermal tubing. An apex vent would be emotionally difficult, but not impossible to modify.
Of course, do your own home however you please. Just a suggestion from someone who has given it decades of thought. 😎

Possibly, but "it works pretty well".
      Until it doesn't.
I would not sleep in that basement with that wiring job.....no way out but one.
I'd hate to see something happen.

Could you give the manufacture and model of that light fan in your basement level of the dome? I need one of those.

Be careful with rodents. You dont want rats or mice entering thru those vent pipes. Once they are in, it's hard to get them out.

That’s really smart doing air vents. I’m wondering when your going to cover the bags inside the dome? Also insulation under the floor? You both are amazing love watching.

I thought you put in black plastic pipe through your roof , or was going to about 4 or 5 feet of pipe sticking out of the roof or side of building so when it heats up the air in the pipe and draws it out and replace the air inside with floor level vent pipes to draw in the air , refreshing it and help remove that raydon gas . NO need for fans .
