    A few years ago I asked my first teacher (a Theravadan monk), if the Buddha said anything about the existence of aliens. He non-chalantly replied something to the effect of, "there absolutely are beings on other worlds. The Buddha would communicate with them frequently". That's when I knew for sure that Buddhism is awesome.

      It's true. Of course, whether you take that stuff literally or not is a different issue.

    From Wikipedia:
    “Capers Jones is an American specialist in software engineering methodologies, and is often associated with the function point model of cost estimation.
    He was born in St Petersburg, Florida, United States and graduated from the University of Florida, having majored in English.[1] He later became the President and CEO of Capers Jones & Associates and latterly Chief Scientist Emeritus of Software Productivity Research (SPR).[2]”

    It is not an error to refer to "GadgadasvaraparivartaH" ("Myou-on-bosatsu-hon", or "The chapter on Bodhisattva Beautiful Sound") as chapter 23 of the Lotus Sutra ("SaddharmapuNDarika sutra"), because the author of the article is referring to the sanskrit version of the sutra, which has one chapter less than the chinese "Myou-hou-renge-kyou", which is the text whose english translation is the one that you have. The "Myou-hou-renge-kyou" is the chinese translation, made by Kumarajiva from sanskrit (or pali or magadhi), to which he added a chapter, "Daibadatta-hon", between the 11th and the 12th chapter of the sanskrit text.

    Great video Brad. UAP is a fascinating topic. I became a bit obsessed a few years ago, but had to relax a bit as i went down a bit if a rabbit hole! Disclosure will not happen overnight but yesterday's congress thing was kinda historical in the UFO/UAP topic. Nothing really new disclosed for us Alien nerds but to have this in Congress is brilliant...and maybe a bit scary!

    • @HardcoreZen
      @HardcoreZen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. I get that. I do wonder where this is going. It seems some people believe the military has material evidence of extraterrestrial visitations and wants to force them to make it available to the public. Either they do possess such material or they don't. If they don't and they say they don't, these folks will still never let it go. If they do and they show it to us, society may change in drastic and unpredictable ways.
      There are other possibilities as well. There's really no way to predict.

    There's also the Flower Garland Sutra, which is the foundational text of the Huayan school. It is basically nothing but alien Buddhas, Buddhas within Buddhas, down to Buddhas within atoms.

    I use to have little mental movies in my mind that would play while meditating of Buddhist aliens that wanted to show me meditation and stuff. So maybe i intuited this truth while meditating...idk. They would show me all this stuff and then feel sad that my anger was too much at that time to be excited about their stuff in the way they were excited. Hopefully they're happy with me now. lol

    Im curious if you ever read “A Stranger in a strange land” by Ray Bradbury? I seem to remember the character that comes back to earth frequently says “Thou Art God” as a way of pointing out that everything is us/you/them ect.
    I wonder if that book could be considered as Buddhist Sci-fi?

    • @HardcoreZen
      @HardcoreZen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've read some of it. It's by Robert A. Heinlein, by the way. I think he was influenced by some of the ideas about Buddhism that were current at the time the book was written.

    nice video but you kind of yadda'd yadda'd yadda'd the best part--what the answer to that dude's question when do WE get to learn in the interstellar travel meditation?
    i’m tempted to look it up but i’m 90% sure the answer is just classic earth buddha “of course i could teach you to travel to other planets but you should just be fine with earth”

    • @HardcoreZen
      @HardcoreZen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll look it up. But I don't think it was that topic the Bodhisattva asked about.

    • @jefffedorkiw1619
      @jefffedorkiw1619 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HardcoreZen I think you're right. I thought that he seems to be asking it as part of that run-on of compound questions he asks--"what's this meditation called and how do we do it?". In one translation I looked it it kind of sounds like he's laying it on a bit about how great this guy is that he can manifest as flowers on an alien planet ... AND there's all that warning about how this world sucks so the visiting Bodhisattva had better be prepared for that.
      But it seems to make sense that he was asking how they can do it just so they can help bring that guy there physically. At any rate, the Buddha seems to get another guy to demonstrate to them how to do it.

    You are providing a Buddhist context for understanding channeled teachings…….such as, for example, Seth Speaks or The Law of One.

    • @HardcoreZen
      @HardcoreZen  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I never thought of it that way. I don't think it's impossible that there are real channeled teachings. But I am highly dubious of the enterprise. A good actor can be a very convincing "trance channeler." At some point a good actor might even come to believe her/his own act. So, I think one has to judge channeled teachings the same way as one would judge any other teachings. I think people are often so impressed by the supernatural-seeming aspects of channeling that they're too willing to simply believe anything the supposedly "channeled being" says. There is a sort of authority given to teachings that come through in that way because it's thought that if a being is from another world, whatever that being says must be true. I don't think that's a good attitude.
