Hey Joe! I’ve been watching your stuff for years! Was excited when you jumped back on TH-cam after hiatus! I’m a weekend warrior but still love watching a good thru hike. Praying for you guys on the hike! Have a blast!!!
So great to see you back on a long thru hike! Keep them coming, please! Also, it’s nice to see a TH-camr hiking with their significant other. Shows my wife that it’s actually a thing people do!
Excited to follow along and watch a flip flop of trail. I like your vlog style, the scenery, and the campsite and meals. Good luck! Subscribed and following!
You two are adorable! Loving the shots of the trail and you talking to the camera. Follow your passion. That’s what makes your videos wonderful. It’s good to have you back.
Great to see you back on the trail. YT hadn't put your gear video on my feed, so this was a pleasant surprise. We have paw paw bushes down here in NW Florida. I didn't know they made a tree that size. Pretty cool.
Started watching your videos a few years ago. You helped inspire my DIY bug! Great video as always. Best of luck to you and your significant other on the trail!!
This is super helpful. You guys are doing what I intend to do next May and that's something I have wanted to do since I was 15, now 66 :-) Keep 'em coming, great stuff.
Thank you for the update! I'm invested in seeing you do the AT again, and hopefully learn some stuff before I get to attempt some through hiking of my own. Many well wishes from Denver!
Great video. I like the nature scenes, vistas, hiking and not a lot of talking nor fancy video introduction. I like how the video starts “in medias res” . I wish all hiking videos were made this way. Nice job. Thanks for a great video.
Well, well, well...look who's back on the AT ! The DJI Osmo... BRILLIANT. The macro lens...awesome. Significant other, 16:11 priceless! Hikes I'd like to see you do...The Great China Wall. I see (maybe) an AT hostel in your future. Stay healthy out there.
So happy to see you on the trail again!Been a sub for years. Watched all your videos. Your videography and editing are impeccable. I love everything you film, especially your attention to details. So looking forward to seeing your flip-flop!! Thanks for taking us along.
Already the best AT video on YT this year - great filming, great editing and pacing, great story-telling and a great eye for detail! I truly hope your subscriber numbers go through the roof! They should have done so years ago since the first time you filmed the AT!
excellent start to the hike.. should be an interesting journey the way you're doing it. as usual superb footage and the human interaction level already seems up so more of that please. enjoy your hike!
I got into backpacking around the time of your PCT hike and you were the first thru-hiker I ever watched. I've been a tarp-camper pretty much since I started doing this,,,based on your influence. I also started my own adventure channel here on TH-cam (which I admit isn't really that good) after watching you get your triple-crown. Thanks for the inspiration and I look forward to the rest of this series. Blessings!!!
I'm so stoked for you. You are the very first hiking TH-camr I started watching and my main inspiration for thruhiking the AT in 2015. Hope you have a blast, and thanks for bringing me along.
Very much appreciate the style of this video so so far. Macros of nature, animals, a bit more focused on the surrounds (so far) than other people. The artist in me LOVES! Anything history and nature based info is great. Awesome to see different things from other places (Australia here). Found your packing list like.... a few day ago. Definitely sticking around. Can’t wait to see more!
damn joe this is awesome! What program are you editing on? I haven't found one I really like. Also I personally like the talking and updates most in hiking videos cool to see the personality and what you're going through.
Thanks Jupiter! I’m using LumaFusion on iOS. If you haven’t tried it yet, I think it is incredible. It is so fully featured and fast. The controls are pretty intuitive once you get the hang of them too. It nice enough that in the future I’m considering ditching the laptop and Final Cut in favor of an iPad and LumaFusion. It can even handle 4K on my phone. A++ Thanks for watching.
Great stuff as usual Joe, maybe better now you have added the wonderful (yet apparently smelly) Tara. I would like to see more camp scenes, how hikers get along and support each other. I know it's tough because some do not like being filmed, but I want to know the on-trail social scene. (I've seen tons of town stuff on the AT). I also enjoy the history. Your Washington Monument stop blew my mind. I had no idea.
Finally a new, relaxing & slow-paced series I can watch on youtube! So excited for you. You're gonna be the first channel where I actually hit the notification bell :D On the other hand, watching also makes me jealous. I like that you also talk a bit about how you feel. I'd also love to experience something like this. Luckily, I'm slowly gonna get into long distance hiking this summer, with a 7-day trip to start. :)
Thanks for following along and best of luck getting into distance hiking! I think that if you can be out for 4 days at a time you can definitely thru hike.
Great video. Really like the incidental scenes like you two having lunch as well as the views and the nature. Woudl love to know how your packs working out? Watching your videos got me interested in DIY gear; I'm currently on a quest to make the perfect shoulder strap pouches for my new pack, but still a ways to go. Anyway - happy hiking both.
Cool video Joe, Wish I were hiking with you guys. I see you have a partner this trip. Did you see the 10 million turtles along the C&O Canal on the logs in the water, You just hiked the most popular AT trail in MD. The Annapolis Rock area. I live in Baltimore and love that area. Good luck on your hike!
Hi Joe! thanks for sharing this great AT thruhike! The video is great and such beautiful scenery. It is interesting to see how you make up your days and what the days consist of. Educational to someone who would not get to travel the footsteps you are taking! Continue to send updates, can't wait for the next. Be careful and have fun!
Funny, I'm from the East (Western PA), and I crave the climate out west for hiking. So nice for things to actually dry out on trail. Great series, looking forward to hearing how the packs are working out -- planning to make something similar to replace my Exos 58 which is way too big and heavy now that I've trimmed a lot of stuff down. Cheers.
Cheers brother, just taking a zero day in Banff today South bounding on the GDT. Ran into Peperflake and Dirtmonger on the way to resuply. I have been in complete awe of the Rockies so far. Hope you come and hike in our neck of the woods sometime. If time permits will try and do a bit of the CDT at the end based on your old vids. Happy trails, much love!
Hiked from north end of the Shenandoah to PA 16 Waynesboro, PA. Freshened some good memories. Am hoping to get some info on where the rocks are in PA so I can plan distances for my next section. Enjoyed it. BCM
Flip flopping would probably how I would do it some day too. Love your style. I used to live in Denver too and am now in Harrisburg. Looking forward to following you trek though Pa. When are you aiming to get to Katahdin? Are your videos delayed more than a couple of days? Enjoy your hike!
Excited to follow you this season, as I'll be doing a Flip Flop next year, and so far no one has been able to speak to that experience. I like views and nature scenes in the videos, but I also like occasional check ins on camera (and if Tara wants to do check ins too that is great).
Let the hiking adventures begin. Great to see you back on TH-cam and even better knowing you’re back on the East coast. I WANT TO KNOW WHO TAUGHT YOU ALL ABOUT TREES? and...the name of the areas you’re hiking through as you’re videoing. Pawpaw tree fruit ripens in the fall. I hope they’ll have some Pawpaw trees along your southbound trek so you can eat one. Like you noted, you two must be going through an odd array of body changes/challenges due to such a huge change in climate and altitude. Sort of like what us East coast folks feel when we hike in Colorado. I am loving this...
Looks like you are getting great images from your phone and lenses. Maybe a little too close up of that tick, though 😫 just followed Frozen’s thru hike, but very much looking forward to your videos to see the trail as the seasons change. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
You have to treat your clothes and gear with permethrin. It lasts 5 weeks or 6 washings. Tick diseases(there are 7 now) are getting more common and dangerous. My wife died from a tick bite two years ago. Use a safe repellent on your skin and do tick checks everyday. Good Luck, Rick
We’re just starting really late and it’s one of the few options left. SoBo could work, but then we’d be starting off on the hardest section of trail with no real chance for our bodies to acclimate.
Watched few of your gear reviews before. First time following your thru hike, though. It is nicely done. Also the first flip-floper I'll be following. Happy trails!
Oh thank goodness. 2019 PCT videos and nobody knows how to shoot pictures or video and I see your on the AT, and your doing a fantastic job. :) i also just watched your PCT start , you’ve come a long way. Im going to have to search you different camera gear, it looks like you’re using several different gear but everything is marrying quite well. Loved the rain shot (umbrella magic), turtle was awesome. Audio is beautiful. 👍
Just finished watching your first video and I will definitely keep watching. I do like your style. You mentioned being in Tennessee and I was wondering what part of the state you visited. I'm originally from the Tri-Cities but live in Murfreesboro now.
Awesome to see you starting another hike! Loved following your cdt and pct hikes. Your no-drama style makes it look sooo easy. I know that's not true. Are you going to let the girl use the umbrella? Lol. Hike on and God speed!
So this is your first video on the trail and you're already knocking it out of the park? Great video, nice views, enough commentary but not too much... and I can only expect these videos will get better as you progress. Thanks and glad to see you back on the trail!
@@BackcountryBanter It sure has grown so much. When I moved here in 1978 a lot of roads were still dirt. Gorman St. was dirt! Looking forward to following your hike 😊
I'm fairly new to your channel. I've seen a couple gear videos you've done, but just started watching backpacking videos this year, so I've not seen your prior hikes. Love your style and your still photos are amazing. So excited for you both. Thanks!
When you flip back through VA I need to do some magic for you guys. Also ed Garvey shelter is where I met my first thru hiker 11 years ago as a highschooler. He was using a soda can alchohol stove and told me he was hiking an average of 26 miles a day and that totally blew my mind. But for context I had just gotten done smoking a joint in the top level of that shelter the night before while a boy scout troop slept down below. I wasnt the most motivated hiker at that time. I've come so far lol.
hey, man, so glad to see you putting more content up. i followed your tutorial for the quilt a little bit ago. thank you for that. i live just south of amicalola. i’d love to hike out and meet y’all somewhere near the southern terminus. i’m on reddit (39thversion) and youtube(obviously) and elsewhere. it’d be cool as hell to meet up. i’m looking forward to watching y’all’s trip. you’ve got support and followers in north georgia, my people :)

Love your videos Dan!!!

Great first day video .enjoy brief shelter talks and approx mileage of them.cant wait till the next one.
I have been watching a lot of hiker vlogs, I think yours is the most visually interesting, keep up the good work, I'll be following you all the way
I like the nature shots!! Most people just zoom on by and keep going. Keep up the good work, good luck, and watch out for that cheese!
Excited to follow along and watch a flip flop of trail. I like your vlog style, the scenery, and the campsite and meals. Good luck! Subscribed and following!

Cross paths. Enjoy the hike and thanks for taking us along.
I like your nat sound approach to story telling. That's one of the things I've always liked about your videos. Keep it up, and happy hiking!
I am really looking forward to this hike!!

Looking forward to your future vids. Planning on sectioning this part of the trail later this month.
Awesome. Looking forward to following along with you guys.
I like this. Not many people video their flip-flop thruhikes.
Great video, full of beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing y’all’s journey. Stay well, safe &hydrated.

Good to have you back on trail. Enjoying that smooth Osmo footage and chill narration. Have a good time out there!
I enjoyed you and Tara's first episode and look forward to more. Especially liked the diversity of shots. Take Care

Love that we actually got to get a good close look at MD. Most people just breeze through and don't document it in their hike vids.
Going to enjoy this version of a thru hike. Definitely when possible more camp scene's. Thanks

You remind me of my Uncle Joe ! Love your videos.

We’re just starting really late and it’s one of the few options left. SoBo could work, but then we’d be starting off on the hardest section of trail with no real chance for our bodies to acclimate.
Best of luck to you on your journey! Will for sure be following along with you!
