Do you think the F-35 will truly replace legacy fighters like the F-15, F-16 and F/A-18 in the long run? Why or why not? Let me know your thoughts! 🤔 ~Mike 👍
The coming upgrades will make the F35 family of aircraft, the assets they were always intended to be. New engines, weapons bay capabilities and improved sensors. Along with the frequent incremental software improvements. It will master all of it's roles for decades to come.
@gusgone4527 Absolutely, the coming upgrades should be a game changer and really push the aircraft and its capabilities forward. Thanks for your comments. I hope you enjoyed the video. Another great release full of information and all wrapped up in an enjoyable and entertaining video! I’m signed up for notifications and already looking forward to the next one. Keep up the great work Mike. 👍🏻
Thank you for your wonderful feedback @Hoff191. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. There is more in the pipeline and so thanks for staying tuned.
The primary objective of the CALF/JAST/JSF programs was to produce a STOVL aircraft. There was no KPP - Key Performance Parameter - requirement for the JSF to be capable of vertical takeoff. The fact that the F-35B can is simply gravy.
Thanks for your comment and insight @stephenpointon. Clearly RR did more heavy lifting than was published. It must have been an interesting time to work there. I hope you enjoyed the video.
@@airlandmarine Great video, yup back then I was lucky to work in compressor design and a little department called "blade computation". worked on everything from viper to Trent.
@stephenpointon Viper to Trent is certainly a broad spectrum of engines! Given your time and experience in this space I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed the video. @@airlandmarine Already subscribed.
@@airlandmarine The big leap fwd will be when the F35 meets it's AI pilot for the first time. It's halfway there already.
Thanks and welcome aboard. 👍🏻
That’s as exciting as it is scary. The speed of development is staggering. Interesting times ahead.

Such an amazing aircraft! Thanks for the vid.
It certainly is @allenellie. That’s what inspired me to make the video. I hope you enjoyed it. 👍🏻
Wow, great video and very informative. I didn’t realise the F-35B isn’t rated as VTOL. Everyday’s a school day. Awesome vid 👍

@@AA-xo9uw good point, I never realised that before and thought VTOL was one of the key features of the F-35B.
I can assure you 90% of the lift fan was designed at rolls-royce when i worked there in Derby
