I watch reviews on the daily. Your presentation and product coverage is amazing. Very easy to listen to and constructive straight to the point. Thank you for your efforts. Easy like 👍
Tokyo Drift….lmao. Another great review Tom. I’m now looking at this for my 2015 F-150. Strange that they have one for the 2017 and newer and yet the 2015-2016 are the same generation and have the same interior. I sent them a message to find out.
I did the same thing. This has been a handy thing to have no doubt. I've recently learned though that it produces some radio frequency interference (RFI) in a very narrow section of the 2m ham band (145.220 to 145.230) which interferes with one of the busier repeaters near me. This isn't likely to apply to most people, but thought I'd share it nonetheless.
@@TomtheDilettante Its not bad. I used to mod/race cars all the time... now its just necessity so I don't lose too much value. I'm looking forward to leaving the salt behind!
I PUT ONE IN MY 2021 CROSSTREK. THE CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT LIT UP AND INDICATED THAT THE PHONE WAS CHARGING. HOWEVER, THE CHARGE INDICATOR STOPPED INDICATING CHARGING HAD STOPPED. NO MATTER HOW I PLACED THE IPHONE ON THE CHARGER THE CHARGE INDICATOR WOULD NOT STAY ON. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
A 20 watt usb c 12v car adapter and an apple mag charger might not give you the look you want but it will charge faster and be just as convenient. Heck you can double side tape the mag charger to your dash to double as a phone mount.
Yes. It’s truly just a charger. Although, some company from Hong Kong reached out to me with a dongle that you allegedly just plug in and it converts non-wireless car play / android auto units to wireless. So if that ends up working, it should complement this unit nicely. More to come. I think they’re shipping it to me soon.
@@gobear83 yeah, the "advantage" is debatable. My 2019 Crosstrek Premium I plug it in for both charging and car play. In my case, I don't always use car play so a simple charger is sufficient. If I want to use car play, I still need to plug it in. With some device that enables wireless car play, while cool, it really adds no features other than accomplishing the same thing wirelessly. Whether or not that's a mod worth spending money on boils down to personal preference. I place a high value on anything that removes wires from my day-to-day so it's cool to me. Others will understandably be like "just plug the damn thing in" LOL...and that would be cool as well.
it charges mine thru the case, but my case is on the minimalistic side. I suspect it would have problems charging thru thicker cases like Otterboxes and such. One of the drawbacks of wireless chargers in general it seems.

Great and simple yet informative review. Noting the much slower speed via the built-in USB saved me from potentially buying and returning.
Very good review style Tom. I finally looked up what Dilettante meant 🧐. Now all this shenanigans makes sense. Wish you well with your channel.
If Ron Swanson likes it we should all like it.
I have the 4Runner version which fits in the center armrest console and love it.
Thank you for your service brother. Another excellent video.
Semper Fi Tom. Hopefully wireless apple car play will be upgradable now that it is out in the 2023 Outback. I just got a 2022 Outback wilderness.
Great review and your format is awesome. Keep up the good work!
Much appreciated! Will do!
Looks like a good wireless charger. Unfortunately, they don't make one for my 2018 Outback. 😠
You can buy certain charging cables that will read off the current wattage going into the phone, in my experience it's pretty accurate.

Thanks for this review. I put my phone (attached to a cord) in this cubby while driving anyway. I may as well ditch the cord and give this a try.

One of these days I'll have a car I an keep longer than one winter and I can get stuff like this 🙂
Haha. I dunno, having a revolving door of cars sounds pretty cool.

My 2016 Tacoma seemed like it charge pretty fast, but the phone would get HOT. I wonder if that is why this one is slower.

Thanks, was helpful
Ya unfortunately I need to plug-in, in order to get ultimate sound quality in my '21. Bluetooth sounds horrible
Assuming you mean your crosstrek? Mine too. The sound system is trash.
So if I use this I still have to connect my phone by USB to use apple car play ..correct?

@@TomtheDilettante thanks… currently with my 2021 Crosstrek Outdoor just plugging in the USB does both …don’t see an advantage yet

Does it charge with the iPhone 13 pro max with the case ?

Thanks. I am hoping to start including them more consistently. Goodness knows I screw up a lot.
