This is a cover of a song that was originally made popular by the late Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson in 1966. The song is by Jónas Jónasson and the lyric is by the poet Kristján from Djúpalækur. Tragically Vilhjálmur died in a carcrash at the young age of 32. He was and is very dear to the Icelandic nation and his songs are and have always been very popular. Vor í Vaglaskógi is a love song about a romantic night of camping in a forest called Vaglaskógur among birch trees, crowberry heather, and a bubbling fresh water spring with the romantic effects of the red evening sun and the morning dew. Yes the mood of the setting is described very precisely in a poetical way. Kaleo has managed to make the song their own and should be applauded for that. Their version is very mooving.
This song has been my favourite for the last few months. I discovered Kaleo half a year ago and listen to it daily on my way to and from work. Two days ago I spent a night in a hotel in Wiesbaden (Germany) when suddenly during breakfast in the lobby, a group of people with a guitar started to sing this song. I couldn't believe my ears! I've never heard this song anywhere else before than on my headphones or in the car. It turned out to be an Islandic choir on tour having a bit of fun while checking out. How cool is that?!
I heard it's an old folk Icelandic song and grandmas used to dance on it and they put it all the time when they make tea there. I dont really know exactly what it means, I found 2 translations cause I wanted to learn to sing it but since I am not sure ab the translation.. I kinda delayed that
Tonight is ours and spring through Vaglaskog, let's camp in green berries. Bring me a friend in the grove yesterday, The fountain down there and the birch shake heals. Game in light locks and roses, plays in the light lid of the rocking tint. Day pearls glitter around the valley, calm down, Its dreams come true that will stay Vaglaskóg. Evening red skins on the tangle strike. The quiet is peaceful, gentle and funky. Game in light locks and roses, plays in the light lid of the rocking tint. Game in light locks and roses, plays in the light lid of the wavering tint, plays in the light lid of the rocking tint
Actually, this song isn't Kaleo's. The original is sung by Vjálmur Vjálmursson, who unfortunately died in a car crash at the age of 32. The original version came out in 1966.

The song has changed my attitude to KALEO from "I like it" to "I love it". Someone who sings like this in the language of his country cannot by just another good singer
It is so good to see the ordinary life of Icelanders and not just the tourist spots. I lived in the North and was a shepherd, so this is special to me.
It's the first time I listen this song and by the end of it I was crying.... It's that kind of song that really embraces you and touches your soul. I could almost feel the calm and cold wind and the scent of the mountains they're talaking about. Simply beautiful....
This is my new favourite song! Thank you! I don't understand a word, but this masterpiece is a great example of not needing to understand the lyrics, you just feel it. Icelandic is so beautiful language! You have fantastic country with magnificent landscapes and gorgeous charismatic people. Greeting from Russia!
My current favourite band, capable of a wide variety of music all of it good. This track stands out not only for the language but because of the feel of it; beautiful and haunted. And I love the video. Takes me back to the 10 days I spend in Iceland, an extraordinary country filled with extraordinary people and extraordinary beauty
KALEO's songs are the fastest songs to reach my like list. The music is super chill, the lyrics touch your heart and brain, and the man's voice is pure gold.

Wow! In the House of My Family, my Dad’s side is Norwegian. Hearing my Grandma speaking was one thing, Kaleo you did this justice. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you.

Thorus Zwolf exactly! I must say, after discovering the meaning of the song, this video version doesn't fit the song. In all honesty, I prefer listening to this band in their native tongue. This song seems to transport one to another place.
Definitely my favourite song from Kaleo. It's a remake but at the same time something new. Not to mention how awesome Icelandic language is and the video is amazing ! I'm coming back to this almost on weekly basis and it's been 2 years now. Thank you so much!
@Karol Jason: I would actually like to hear the original version of this song... BUT YES!, Kaleo has definitely produced a masterpiece of a song, definitely made it their own...
This kind of.. intro with that simple guitar and (i think) violins in the background. then his calming, soft and rough voice. damn boy you're godgifted. music can be so simple to get a perfect masterpiece. 1:46 . 3:01 then the drums at 3:25 then his voice at 3:57 - 4:03 . I can't stay those german and american mainstream songs played over and over again. I wish i could say it with as more meaning and feeling as just by using this words: I am really really happy that there are artists like you existing in this world. Much Love from Germany
As a musician, I can’t say I understand your lyrics in this song, but music is a universal language and with your melodys In this song, it truly was storytelling.
Funny this song brought tears and I don't understand the lyrics. The conviction of his voice, the context of the video, and instruments that serenade your soul. I love this band

Verse 1-
The night is ours
Spring in the woods of skies
We head to the heath with our tent, where the berries grow
Take me dear friend to the mirth of yesterday's
Where our creek runs free and the birch will blow
Refrain-
Light in the mountains
Scent from our dearest fountains
The wind is counting your hair in the light aglow
Verse 2-
The dew comes forth
Our valley is swept in peace
Our dreams come true, who sleep in wood of skies
On the berry hearth, the last touch of sunlight dies
Refrain-
Light in the mountains
Scent from our dearest fountains
The wind is counting your hair in the light aglow
Light in the mountains
Scent from our dearest fountains
The wind is counting your hair in the light aglow
The wind is counting your hair
Thank you for takin the time to text the words so we can understand.
This night is ours, spring in the forrest air
Let’s pitch our tent among the berries over there.
Lead me, my dearest, to the grove of yesterday
Where the brook kindly whispers and the birches sway.
Light locks in motion, lingering emotion
A rose scented breeze from the Fae
Dew drops glitter, the dale is quiet and fair
Dreams coming true for lovers sleeping there
Heather blushing in the evening sun’s last ray
The cool quiet night comes after a perfect day

We need more music like this - unique, original, honest, gripping, magical.
If you are listening to this….you have a good taste in music
I've watched it 100 times and I'm in tears all the time. It's incredible!
The English translation is so haunting, no idea what it must mean but I love it nonetheless.
Damphampster haunting, yep! Good word
Trabinjin it's a song about there hime
Micah Watson they didn't write it, it's a traditional Icelandic song
It's not a traditional song. It's a classic by Vilhjelmr Vilhjelmsson from the 60s.
Felix Häggblom what's the song about?
I have never in my 50 years had a song touch my soul like this one. I close my eyes and see every beautiful memory of my life. It makes me cry, it makes me laugh and gives me oeace
One of the most beautiful songs I have heard thus far. This is a more melodic and soulful renditions I have heard. As for the lyrics in English pure poetry. Thank you.
I love this song bc it's written in a minor key, so it sounds really sad, but then the lyrics are about springtime! and it's super happy!
Wow! In the House of My Family, my Dad’s side is Norwegian. Hearing my Grandma speaking was one thing, Kaleo you did this justice. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you.

Thank you Steven. Damn your music taste is incredible
👍
Their music is so good ! That's what the music industry search for... Their work needs more recognition
It tugs at my heart....I feel like something is missing in my life and this song fulfills that spot
Icelandic may be the most magical language of the world. I love it. You can do many masterpieces with Icelandic language just adding beautiful melodies. 💓
I'm hungarian, our language is one of the most hardest and beautiful languages of the world, but when I hear this song, I feel like I undarstand every word of every languages
There are no words to describe the beauty of this..
Agreed... it's like trying to describe moments of pure peace in life.
Thorus Zwolf exactly! I must say, after discovering the meaning of the song, this video version doesn't fit the song. In all honesty, I prefer listening to this band in their native tongue. This song seems to transport one to another place.
Mollie Smith I love songs that take you on a trip in your own thoughts, like some of Gordon Lightfoot and Enyas music
Definitely my favourite song from Kaleo. It's a remake but at the same time something new. Not to mention how awesome Icelandic language is and the video is amazing ! I'm coming back to this almost on weekly basis and it's been 2 years now. Thank you so much!
Another year has passed and I'm still here thinking about Iceland and the chance to go back again
@Karol Jason: I would actually like to hear the original version of this song... BUT YES!, Kaleo has definitely produced a masterpiece of a song, definitely made it their own...
@@persephone1062 well, here you are! Will be something else that you would expect! :)

"The wind is counting your hair"... That's really beautiful words!
Tomorrow i will counting the hair of my beautiful wife. Thank you for this
What a brilliant song... Thank you for that!
With love from Russia.
Absolutely touching, moving, beautiful.
I don't care about the translation. It's more than enough that this is simply a beautiful and haunting song that crossed all languages.
love this song. the lyrics are beautiful and have meaning, something I could tell even before I read the translation. the mark of a great song.
One of the highlights of my short trip to Reykjavík was visiting the Perlan museum. I discovered this song while watching a beautiful movie on Iceland in the planetarium.
Do we need words? This music is understood everywhere....BEAUTIFUL...
by the way: i listen to Kaleo' s music very often, one of my favoured music groups, strong voice, super band, super titles....f.e. bang, bang. .....great ......
This is the best song ive ever heard. Dude has an amazing voice!
Still my favourite!
i listen to this song so many times, i can low-key speak Icelandic
You don't need to understand the lyrics to know that this is a beautiful song
Love the video. It's what Nordic Noir is about. We don't get the Icelandic language in Finland, but it sounds great, mysterious. Pitäkää pojat lippu korkealla, Suomen tukeen voitte luottaa!
There is no need to understand or know the language to feel the humanity of this song ! just a great song !
