THANK YOU! I have watched numerous videos on how to make molds and how to mix the cement. They all scared me away with the complicated measuring, weighing, etc. I have followed you for a long time and you never disappoint me in your skill of teaching and being a beautiful artist!! You have given me the confidence in “I can do this!”💕💕💕💕
@thunderbirdwomanjewelry1083 you CAN!! 💕💕 These days I put a heaping cup of cement and mix some water till it is fluid. The water will eventually evaporate or rise to the top and it will set. Thank you so much for sticking with me over the years. I am so glad you find the videos helpful💕😁
Thank you, Miranda. Give that beautiful little boy a great big hug for me. I love his name, Seppe. Just something you may try. When I have left over plaster, I go ahead and put it into a mold, even if it only fills the mold part way. Then the next time I have left overs, I just add it on top of the first leftover until I have a complete mold build up. So far I have not had any trouble with the layers blending together to make one complete stone. Just a thought.
That is such a great idea!!! I would have never thought to do this!!! See what happens when we communicate with others. Ideas progress. Thank you so much for sharing this with me!!!
Very impressed that your son kept saying oval while you kept wanting him to say yellow. I'm more impressed that he knows his shaped then his colors! Adorable!
I admire your creative, positive, sweet and caring personality! You seem to honestly be an amazing person to know in real life. So happy to have came across your videos, thank you for sharing your intellect on mandalas and the art behind it. I now want to make molds and magnets. 😊 👍🏼
Lol! Thank you, Miranda, for giving a name to your "trivet"! I've been using cottage cheese lids to make what I was calling "discs" for the last three months, But TRIVETS sound SO MUCH BETTER!😁😁😁💖💖💖
Thanks for the Happy Dotting link, I received a 10% discount which was a pleasant surprise. Now I will have a complete set of molds plus an extra #3. I like the small stone.
I just got my #3 round stone molds from HDC this afternoon... and now that I've watched your video, I am so excited to try them out! I love it that you share these videos with us, the wealth of information in them is priceless! Your helper and his "friends" are adorable. Thank you so much for sharing!
My helper..yes. 😄 haha. I love the #3. It is perfect for an hour or so painting project. Thank you for taking the time to say hi and give me feedback! I really appreciate it
Thank you Miranda for sharing this. I ordered my molds today and can't wait to get them. I've already got a round one from Happy Dotting Company and love it. Love watching your tutorials 😘 Mandas Dot Art
Miranda thank you so much❣️💖👍🏻very helpful I finally have the stuff to make the stones -mold & ultracal-30 , it has no directions but I hope to mix 1cup to 1/2 cup -water- to see if that works.
I apologize for the delay in response. This has been a rough year for my family and I am only now getting some time online. Potters Plaster is a different density. Lighter weight, more prone to chipping.....Cement is heavy :)
Hi Miranda, thank you for the time you take to teach this wonderful art. It says in the description for the plaster this is not recommended for outside use. Is there a plaster that is?
Also, I would like the sizes of my colored stylus dotting pens. Blue, white, yellow, green and pink. I would appreciate your help. You are the person who got me interested in dotting art. I’m practicing on construction paper
Did you purchase your tools from me? Sometimes the sizes vary..depending on the supplier. At my website shop the photo for the listing has the sizes. I cannot post a photo here in the comments.
Goto the 4th photo for the sizes: mirandapitroneart.com/shop/ols/products/set-of-5-dotting-tools-all-angled-bent-angled-styluses-dot-art-tools-painting-supplies-nail-art-tools-diy-kit
What do you use to sand it down? I’m assuming sandpaper but is there a special grit? (I just got my molds today) I’m a newbie so I just want to make sure I have everything I need...also I think I’ll be using quickcrete...any tips?
From Hdc: Please note - the only items that can ship to a USA address have a USA flag on the item picture - meaning it is stocked in USA. If an item doesn't have a USA flag on picture it means it's in Australia. We're still very short of stock at our dispatch point in Wisconsin and will re-list as soon as stock arrives and is available. Thank you for your understanding and support.
I never like taking stones from beaches, forest or other natural areas do to their importance. However would it still be ok to make stones and paint them to sell instead? I just feel like most buyers would be upset that there not natural stones or just not buy them.😯
That is an excellent question and one that I can answer. I actually sell a lot of the handmaid stones. I let buyers know up front that they are art stones and they are handmade from a mold. But if I can I try to put them on little stands to actually display them like a piece of art rather than people thinking of it as a paperweight. But I also have other molds for candle holders and circular trivets which cell pretty well too💖😉
I use a concrete mix. I purchased at Home Depot in Canada and the clerk said to use this - Quikrete Fast Setting concrete mix. I got a 25 kg bag and because there are small pieces of rock in mix, I just sift the small shards of rocks out. This is working for me, but I do plan on going back to Home Depot to find a product that does NOT have aggregate in it. The rocks come out so nice and smooth. I have 4 silicone rock molds large oval, small oval, large circle and large heart. I have ordered another smaller circle. These are excellent molds. And will let others know the next product I find to make rocks without aggregate. Or anyone can check out their local hardware store. Very helpful. But make sure there isn't aggregate in the mix or you will have bumpy rocks on the bottom side, unless you are fine with that! I seal My rocks with an outdoor sealer also - DecoArt gloss varnish is what I am using now. Dries fast, is shiny and seals your painted rocks.
Well as an art piece it is fine. I would not use it for out door decorations. I have dropped them and they break or chip. So you should keep them from kids😉
I went on Epsy to order the molds but it says they do not ship to the USA. How did you get yours? Do you know of any USA company that sells the molds? Thanks, Sandra
Apparently during these times she is not shipping here. I have a message into her asking...but Etsy will not let me order either. I will see what I can do
Miranda Pitrone Art Thank You so much for your help. I really appreciate you looking into it for me. I will just keep an eye open on her Epsy account. Sandra
Hi i am watching how u make your oval molds with 1/2 of water and 1 cup of capital cement.I ordered the capital cement and it said it was white well i got gray how did u get white
I would not put them outside....I have not tried yet, but unless they were in a safe spot where there was not a lot of weather influence, I would not put them out
I do, but I have a good client list. I have been selling allover the world for 10 years. Keep at it, but also you should do them because you enjoy it. It will show in your work💞💞😉
Bom Dia. Cada quantidade de água é diferente. Depende do tamanho do molde de pedra e do pó que você está usando. Se você estiver usando Ultracal 30 e o Molde Oval Amarelo É: água Em pó 2,7 onças (76 g) 7 onças (200g) Para o gesso que usei. Era 1 xícara de gesso para 1/2 xícara de água.
Thank you for this video - it's really informative ...but...please don't have children as part of your videos. I know parents are proud of their children (as am I) however it's a distraction to viewing. It's okay for you to be upset with my comment (we all have them) but Romper Room antics interfere with your instructional videos. Thank you.
Haha..I am definitely not upset with your comment. You are free to have an opinion on the matter and I partly agree..it can be distracting. I have had the reverse request of your issue quite often. People asking me to include more of my family. I cannot please everyone and so I do a little of both. I put Seppes name in the title for those who do not want to see him. Then they can avoid it. Thank you for your feedback.
Seppe was only a GOOD distraction :) Thank you for being such an awesome patient mother and thank you for allowing us to see your beautiful smart little boy! Seppe will cherish the memories forever. Never let anyone make you feel bad for including your child. Plus I love your response to the negative comment. You are very wise. Love your tutorial and I especially love the discount I received by using your link. Thanks!

Thanks so much for making this video. It's very helpful! I love hearing Seppi chatting away! They grow up too fast don't they. Beautiful!
He is my sidekick..so much fun
Thank you for sharing this. ❤️I was wondering how to find the center for the pallet rounds!! 😊

Gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank-you for this Miranda, love your little helper :) xoxo what a cutie!
Thanks so much for sharing with us Miranda. I'm just getting started in my rock adventure and this was incredibly helpful!!
Awesome! I am glad. You could also check landscaping companies for real stones. They sell in bulk😁
Miranda thank you so much❣️💖👍🏻very helpful I finally have the stuff to make the stones -mold & ultracal-30 , it has no directions but I hope to mix 1cup to 1/2 cup -water- to see if that works.
Enjoyed video found it interesting and informative...whats the difference between potters plaster and cement?
I apologize for the delay in response. This has been a rough year for my family and I am only now getting some time online. Potters Plaster is a different density. Lighter weight, more prone to chipping.....Cement is heavy :)
Thank you! may I know where I can get the oval mold?

Hi Miranda, thank you for the time you take to teach this wonderful art. It says in the description for the plaster this is not recommended for outside use. Is there a plaster that is?
I see a lot of people using quickcrete which would work outdoors...although I have not yet tried this myself :)
You can check out a ceramics shop for bisque, after painting use an outdoor sealer.
Do you seal the stones with something, before you put paint on them ?
Very good video..
I do not seal them first..I paint a matte base coat of paint, create my design, then seal with a uv protective varnish. 😊💛🧡❤
I noticed your first batch was much thicker than your second batch (where you filled the larger stone mold)?? Did you do something different?
I use the same measurements..it might just be that I paused the video more on the first batch so it thickened. You are very observant 😉❤❤
Can’t wait to make my own stones, thanks!
Go for it!
Also, can you explain what the difference is between your plaster mix and the one that is recommended by Angela of Happy Dotting? TY
Angela uses Gypsum which is heavier and grey in color. Potter's Plaster is lighter weight and white. It will chip a bit easier as well.
Also, I would like the sizes of my colored stylus dotting pens.
Blue, white, yellow, green and pink. I would appreciate your help. You are the person who got me interested in dotting art. I’m practicing on construction paper

Perfect!! Got it, thank you
Can one use concrete with these molds, please?
I love your helper!
Thank you! I love him too :)
Do stones break or chip easily if dropped? Cute
With plaster yes. Gypsum and cement...less so
What do you use to sand it down? I’m assuming sandpaper but is there a special grit? (I just got my molds today) I’m a newbie so I just want to make sure I have everything I need...also I think I’ll be using quickcrete...any tips?
I just use a sanding sponge. These have multiple sides and 4 different grits: amzn.to/3qzTmRA
Where did you find the paw 🐾 molds
I believe they were from WISH
how long do you leave them to dry in the molds before removing?
Overnight is best
I wanted to order the Oval molds from Happy Dotting Co, and it said they don’t ship to US! Can you suggest how I can purchase! I’m in Las Vegas, NV!
From Hdc: Please note - the only items that can ship to a USA address have a USA flag on the item picture - meaning it is stocked in USA. Hi Miranda . I cannot find the oval molds from happy dotting company!:-/
do you know of a mix that is waterproof, that could be used on painted rocks outdoors? Thanks.
I use a concrete mix. I purchased at Home Depot in Canada and the clerk said to use this - Quikrete Fast Setting concrete mix. I got a 25 kg bag and because there are small pieces of rock in mix, I just sift the small shards of rocks out. how well does the plaster hold up
Well as an art piece it is fine. I would not use it for out door decorations. I have dropped them and they break or chip. So you should keep them from kids😉
Unable to find this plaster. Any suggestions for a different brand?

Miranda Pitrone Art Thank You so much for your help. I really appreciate you looking into it for me. I will just keep an eye open on her Epsy account. Sandra
Hi i am watching how u make your oval molds with 1/2 of water and 1 cup of capital cement.I ordered the capital cement and it said it was white well i got gray how did u get white
Gypsum is grey. The white is Potter's Plaster :)
How long it will take to dry?
I read it takes two weeks to dry thoroughly
Where do you get the magnets? And what strength are they? Thanks
amzn.to/2zdKGru
these are the exact ones I use. I use them for stones too
Miranda Pitrone Art Thanks!
His oval sounds like opal! Lol 😂 so cute! If you put it on or in a sonic cleaner for jewelry it’ll help shake out the bubbles
Thanks for the tip!
How do these hold up outside in the rain?
I would not put them outside....I have not tried yet, but unless they were in a safe spot where there was not a lot of weather influence, I would not put them out
Can i make stonesetc. In oval muffin pans ...metal...
I would not because you will not be able to pop the stone out. Silicone stretching allows the stone to come out with out chipping
Are you managing to sell them? Mine don't sell even with lots of comments. Just sold a large white round #4 I think, for just £5.😢
I do, but I have a good client list. I have been selling allover the world for 10 years. Keep at it, but also you should do them because you enjoy it. It will show in your work💞💞😉
Olá, assistindo hj, 21/03/21, gostaria de saber a quantidade de água, e a do gesso, poderia me responder, não entendo o q vc fala, obg!
Bom Dia. Cada quantidade de água é diferente. Depende do tamanho do molde de pedra e do pó que você está usando. Se você estiver usando Ultracal 30 e o Molde Oval Amarelo
É: água
Em pó
2,7 onças
(76 g)
7 onças
(200g)
Para o gesso que usei. Era 1 xícara de gesso para 1/2 xícara de água.
You said.half a cup of water to 1 cup of plaster, but you used less than half a cup of water and you used 2 cups of plaster?
@sharonhorton9820 the red scoop is 1/2 cup and the water glass is a 2 cup pyrex.
I noticed the second batch seemed a lot looser than the first...??
Probably did not measure as well..lol. It still hardens fine. Just takes a bit longer. In reality now I never measure the water.
