Mr Barton, You are brilliant. I love snooker but could only play it occasionally. If I had the opportunities of watching your coaching videos before, I would not perform still like a beginner at the age of 62. But your videos are really good and helpful for people who want to improve their skill. English is not my native language but you speak in a way gentle and clear that allows me to understand without difficulties. 👍🏻 Thanks a million.
That Picture in Picture is definitely VERY helpful. I wish all snooker training videos would give that PIP. You are a very good player. I wish I could play as good as you.
Yes. More of these videos! Perhaps to touch on some beginner break building common mistakes either on the mental side of the game or the shot selection of beginner vs pro. Your elaboration and explanation for each shot is extremely helpful, your thought process and reasoning for the shots.
After watching your videos i realized that i don't have to play with side or various versions of it, for example bottom left hand side or top right hand side, i cannot seem to get out of the habit of using side or backspin on every shot whereas i can just use plain ball and natural angles as you've said, small stuns and run through's is the key. seems weird as i don't know how i got into the habit of putting some sort of side screw/top spin on most of my shots especially as i learn't plain ball potting from the start. i love the positional play awareness your talking about and i like the way you explain your thoughts through shots and the various ways to play it and using simple natural angles whereas i like to make mine LOL anyway like you say...keep it nice and simple! thanks again and look forward to your next video.. :)
Love the way you put the cue ball on and where and how you are hitting it. Since watching I have more of an idea about positioning the cue ball for the next shot and have improved my game recently. Keep up the good work.Thank you.
Fantastic mate! Especially at my level, keeping it simple and playing up and down the centre of the cue ball with zero side is so important to not missing the pot! I'm off now to see if you have videos on stun-run through - the shot I struggle with the most :D
Your tips are really helping my game, always loved the game just never got chance to practice. Brilliant job you make it look so easy but explain so clearly.
Nice video, I don't play snooker tho because snooker is less familiar in here, no one is playing snooker as well, but I can implement these tips to play in pool Thank You Barton Snooker

Morning Steve, going over some of older videos, I always find it useful to give myself little reminders, this maybe an odd question but when we play an away league fixture 2 tables even in the club are not the same, I try not to use the cushions as the bounce can nil or runs for way too long, away clubs will not you practice, any other advise please..... I do goto my home ans set up my practice routines, love your videos as you know, brilliant and help/ed my game beyond believe, thank you, ps still can't a game for a pound or just playing fir highest break 😊
Hi. Thanks very much! I would say that I had days when I was learning, where all I did was concentrate on keeping still. Also, it's a good idea to film yourself and see what you actually look like when you play. It really just comes down to forming good habits. So staying still is just a very good habit to have. So just concentrate on not moving your head at all.
thank you for another great and informative video ... the CUE ACTION video was awesome , you surely did cover every aspect of having a perfect cue action and when I saw that few days ago , I subscribed . I'm sure this channel will grow so fast . best wishes . 🤗😎🙌
Great videos ! Could You consider doing a video about timing the shot ? what is it in Your opinion and how to get better with it ? I personally struggle with consistency in positioning the white ball - meaning I meant to play stun-shot but sometimes it becomes screw. Same thing happens with length of screw shot for a relatively ( for me ) same shot.
Hi! Yes I will try to do something on this in a future video. To try and improve your timing. Set up the same shot over and over again (mark where the white and object ball are). Then play the shot aiming to get the white in a specific point. Keep setting the shot up, and try and get a feel for how different heights and cue speed affect the reaction of the white ball. Thanks for watching!
Hi. I have other videos about "lining up shots", "pre shot routine" and "walking into the shot". Also videos on "the cue action" and "the basics". Check out all those videos and hopefully your cueing will improve 🙂
BartonSnooker I will check them out 🙂 I like your snooker story and it inspires me that I might be able to a basic standard (accepting table time limitations will restrict progress speed and how much I can expect)
Hi Barton, as always great work. One question - the black at 02:52 was played with a lot of screw but gentle in power. Could that have been played with more power but then played as a stun? If yes and the same positioning would have been acheived, why did u choose screw? Just personal preference? Thanks!
Hi Christopher. The black at 02:52 had to be played like that. I wanted to "kill" the white very quickly so I left an angle on the red. The only was to stop the white moving too far, was to play a very gentle, maximum screw shot. Which means I'm generating lots of spin on the cue ball because I'm hitting low, but without much power, so the white holds quickly without moving very far. If you tried this shot as a normal stun, you'd get way more movement out of the white ball, and risk not having an angle to get back to the black. Thanks for the question 🙂
Great video for the beginners but after practicing with side and getting comfortable using it the more one can appreciate the skill needed for good center cue ball positioning.
hi Steve enjoying your channel and thanks for the high quality content, subscribed. A quick question though - why did you do a shorter backswing for the screw shots?
Excellent vids I have made a coment on yr face book page on this video as I said I play 4 times a week had lessons but still can't get more than a regular 16 I don't no what I'm doing wrong
Hi Nigel. It sounds like you may have some fundamental things that you need to address with your technique. Without seeing you play it would be difficult for me know what might be the problem.
Thing is i have a much smaller table for snooker and making breaks like this would require extreme precision with cue ball control and the cloth is old too soo very little spin and bounce off the cushions so most shots that are left are with the white dead on the cushions
Hi mate I like your videos. The thing that let's me down more than anything is my temporamant and I was wondering if there's anything that can be done to improve that?I sulk when I'm getting no luck or run of the ball and if I miss any easy shots I can't stop thinking about it. Basically I'm a big sulk 😂 and I know there's a lot of professional players that can wipe things from their minds and not let it bother them. Is there anything I can do to improve my temporamant or is it just the way i am made 😂
Hi there Mark, I see a lot of players that suffer with these kind of problems. I certainly don't think it's how you're made and you can't change anything. You can work on temperament and psychology just like any other part of life. I will try and do a video on this in the future as I think it is something that will benefit a lot of players.
Yes this is a key shot. Just set a few up and practice them. Just try to commit to your straight cueing and have a play around with the shot until you feel more comfortable.
Typically speaking, how long does it usually take a player to go from 20/30 break standard to 50 break standard, once they start addressing the key areas that you speak of? I'm aware everyone Is different and learns at different paces etc. Just a rough average based on your experience.
So if the stun and screw are hit in the same place on the cue ball how do you get different effect? Is it the speed or acceleration or even angle? Hint, my attempted screw backs always end up as a stun. I am lucky if I get an inch of screw back. So frustrating when I can visualise the shot that should be taken.
Hi! It is the speed of the cue delivery. If I hit very low and very slowly I won't get much backspin. If you hit low and very hard, you will get more backspin. Your problem with screw back could be something in your technique that is meaning you are not actually hitting where you were aiming. Some people aim low but then dip on the shot and end up hitting higher on the white. Getting screw is not all about power. It's about hitting low on the white and accelerating all the way through the shot smoothly.
Come play against me, you won't see the black and pink ball spotted down there like that 🤣🤣🤣. That's easy snooker 😂😂. However, good video but it would have been nice to see the different angles you had on these shot although I know that would be time consuming to film.
Steve, what is your camera setup? I’m looking to get a camera to record my practice but I’m conscious it’ll be too zoomed in and not get all of the table in
Some days I play good and even pot the most difficult pots at acute anales, but some days I totally miss dummy straight short range pots. I can't figure out why? It's very frustrating. Any advice on what to do?
I think the only thing you can do is why I am doing in this video. Take your time, make sure you have a plan, and a very consistent Pre-shot-routine. Stand behind each shot properly, go through your Pre-shot-routine, and you should be more consistent.
You want maximum screw, but also as soft as possible. So, by using a slightly shorter backswing, and still making sure to accelerate through the white, you will get maximum screw, but with not too much power.
I always try to contol the cueball come back. And i try back spin more than natrul angle or trow shot. And i sceard about cushion. Can you help me to repair this problem.?
I think this is an issue a lot of players have. I had this problem myself. The best thing to do is practice the shots you are not comfortable with. Set the white up in a place where you need to roll off the cushion for position, and practice that shot a few times. Mark where the balls are each time so you can practice the same shot. You will only get better at these shots if you play them more often.
@@Rehmannawaz86 the grip hand should finish at the chest after the shot. You should not be punching hard into your chest. Just let the cue go through and the hand naturally finish and stop at the chest.
