Hi Peoples! It's Elia, the director of the kingdom video here. Just wanted to post a thank you all for stopping by and checking this out. It was a great experience to make and work with Jesca who is as enchanting and enigmatic as I'm sure you all expect her to be! I'm so glad you're all enjoying this video - if you'd like to see something else of mine check out my film "How Henri Came To Stay" on Openfilm.com best, Elia
This... is actually magical. I love the way the song suddenly takes a new slant, like a flower blooming, or a beast erupting from a slumber... and then slides back to a calm lull. This artist is one I will be following closely.
All of the fallen on the ground Hollarin ground I lay down a shrine and I Come with the autumn To tear it down Orange and brown And I lay a soft down For all are waiting All in line Brethren bathin' Bones in brine Separate your light from lime Our mortal bind Under the spell of full November moon Light on the broom Frost in my room In through the window Came a ghost I knew She paid me a visit while I was in my bed Sleepy she said Sleep as though dead For in the morning you are called Is what she said To the high desert War is raging You must go to the battlefield And follow the cry of men rampaging And gather the ones that won't heal Down through a cloud of smoke to the promise land Many are dead River runs red "For my god and for my king" is what he said I came to my knees with my lips to his ear My hand to his chest His wounded breast For my god and for my king I will not rest But in the high desert You are dying For your god and his ghost and the son Do not hold to the earth on which you are lying For the kingdom can never be won All of the fallen under ground Hollarin ground I lay down a shrine and i Come with the autumn to Tear it down Orange and brown And I lay a soft down For all are waiting All in line Brethren bathing bones in brine Separate your light from lime Let go of the earth
I saw Jesca Hoop live the other nite in Manchester and she was amazing...this is fast becoming one of my fave songs by her...great video...she is brilliant!!
how does the vid not do the track justice? i've seen thousands of people say it's help them throw off the chains of religious dogma. and jesca is at her most essential here - she IS that murder of birds. Personally, she's helped me hang onto the Holy Spirit while seeing the Sophia in Jesus and the Iemanjá in Yahweh.
She will be appearing this Thursday, Aug. 8th at the Starry Plough Irish Pub in Berkeley & I am really hoping to make it to that show. I love Kate Bush & she has interesting similarities here.
Tom Waits described this so well. "Her music is like swimming at night" If we where exposed more to this kind of art and a little less to Puff Daddy, Rihanna and you know, maybe we would learn to focus more on the "feeling" (where tru art comes from) and not the praying and obeying of the glitter infected ego.
Drool drool :D Me so likes!! What's not to like? She writes beautiful songs, sing, play guitar, make a fire, dance and she likes dress-up.. The song even has crickets ;) I wants...
I immediately thought of Kate Bush's song and music video for "The Dreaming". Then I scrolled down and saw other people mentioned her too. Maybe that's why I liked this....lol.
@WingedSeed Hi - Elia here, director of the video. Although we never talked directly about it, I did get that vibe from the lyrics too when hearing the song, except the way I understood them they were contextualized within the time period of the crusades - i.e Robin Hood - King Richard the Lionhearted. I posed a question to her regarding this once - or more broadly the use of old, middle evil language - she had no idea what i was talking about. It's the message not the vessel that matters.
and @ m06een: I doubt artists like her and Kate Bush make music to sell albums, they do it because it is a passion, and I still buy Kate Bush's albums....they are timeless and their songs definitely have substance. More so than most artists around today for sure.
I think Neverending Story would have been a good vibe for this song... this video is giving Cirque du Soleil. Sorry, artists. Obviously I love the song!
She's pleasant but her songs have little substance or staying power. She tries to be too complex for their own good. Kate Bush who started out years go so brilliantly eventually went the same way and her albums stopped selling.
Yumi, although it looks biblical, it's probably not the Bible. Most likely, it would the Book of Mormon, as she was raised in a traditional Mormon family. She describes losing her faith in the church when her parents separated, when she was still a teen, and going to live off the grid to find her faith in mankind.

Still my all time favourite music video! Even after all these years...
Exquisite. Leaves a reflection long after hearing it, as well as many questions...
I spent 3 years trying to find you! This song is amazing. Hope u kept making music since then. It honestly inspires me to not give up ❤❤
All of the fallen on the ground
Hollarin ground
I lay down a shrine and I
Come with the autumn
To tear it down
Orange and brown
And I lay a soft down
For all are waiting
All in line
Brethren bathin'
Bones in brine
Separate your light from lime
Our mortal bind
Under the spell of full November moon
Light on the broom
Frost in my room
In through the window
Came a ghost I knew
She paid me a visit while I was in my bed
Sleepy she said
Sleep as though dead
For in the morning you are called
Is what she said
To the high desert
War is raging
You must go to the battlefield
And follow the cry of men rampaging
And gather the ones that won't heal
Down through a cloud of smoke to the promise land
Many are dead
River runs red
"For my god and for my king" is what he said
I came to my knees with my lips to his ear
My hand to his chest
His wounded breast
For my god and for my king I will not rest
But in the high desert
You are dying
For your god and his ghost and the son
Do not hold to the earth on which you are lying
For the kingdom can never be won
All of the fallen under ground
Hollarin ground
I lay down a shrine and i
Come with the autumn to
Tear it down
Orange and brown
And I lay a soft down
For all are waiting
All in line
Brethren bathing bones in brine
Separate your light from lime
Let go of the earth
This is just amazing, her work is so profound.
My tribal spirit rejoices with this song. Jesca, you're a genius!
literally in love with Jesca.
Everything about her is so beautiful. I love this woman!
Great video. Excellent album. I don't remember how I came across it but I'm glad I did.
Love this song and the dramatic video. Intense and powerful, and the way it fades out at the end is just perfect. Like a prayer.
I saw Jesca Hoop live the other nite in Manchester and she was amazing...this is fast becoming one of my fave songs by her...great video...she is brilliant!!

This one really something else. Simply superb.
This is so great on so many levels. 1:31 reminded me the "give it away" video clip
The chorus gives me butterflies

this video is absolutely brilliant, and the song is just something amazing
Brilliant song, brilliant artist, brilliant video.
This is great. Reminds me a lot of the Kate Bush song & video "The Dreaming".
Paul Perkins exactly my thoughts :-)
Whoa... people know "The Dreaming"... an atypical corner of TH-cam!
DISCOGOTHTHEJAZZFAN age perhaps 😬😊
Great song, great video.
Wow - just Awesome !!

@vleek07 thank YOU for watching! It's nice to see everyone having a similarly overwhelmed reaction to Jesca's material...I'm glad I'm not alone :-)
Thank you, Jesca.
this is a compositional masterpiece.
I'm in awe of the beauty of Jesca's music, and this video is absolutely amazing and perfect. Just curious, is this about Joan of Arc?
@epetridis Awesome thanks :) Mustve been really cool to work with her
@monkgotgroove Thanks! The documentary was done by Emmy award winning Maranatha Hay. I really appreciate the kind words and all the support!
For which we are very grateful.

♥ GREAT!
Excellent video excellent song excellent is too small a word
ART
I love the melancholy, folky pop shit.
stumbled on Jesca while looking for stuff by drummer Jonah David.
Drool drool :D Me so likes!! What's not to like? She writes beautiful songs, sing, play guitar, make a fire, dance and she likes dress-up.. The song even has crickets ;) I wants...

Does anyone know how she got so bronze??? It's beautiful

@epetridis Elia how do Jesca get so bronze? Is it spray on tan?
Present x
And a hint of Adam Ant costuming.
+Verne Martin Had the exact same thought! It's like Annabella Lwin & Adam Ant had a love child...
Glad to see I am not alone on this thought!
+Verne Martin, who in turn took his costume from St. Pepper! There's nothing original anymore...lol
I do know Jesca. Yeah the look is not original, and she borrows but she is pretty talented.
@epetridis
wow, big people talking to small people :)
Bibles come in handy!
Does anyone know where this was shot I must go to the desert and am looking for a good location.
Joshua tree
Low production but, high quality Voice ♥
Bliss
Hi Jade
I saw Peter Gabriel. Did anybody else?
@jdubhman excuse my french
My first thought on hearing the beat and seeing the arid landscape. Does this sound familiar: th-cam.com/video/M2Wa0LdCsvM/w-d-xo.html ??
This song makes me think of Game of Thrones.
Ex-Mormons are so cool. They're like the Hackintoshes of people.
🖤🤍🎶
it is body paint, but not latex - a much gentler solution.
Once I actually understood what this song was saying and what it was talking about...fuuck
Merinis sounds like it's about a valkyrie.
*o*
someone sure admires kate bush
very cool-- ha ha she disappears!
Yeah definitely channeling Kate Bush.
kate bush
Great track, but deserves far better video!
Vid doesn't do this track any justice, sorry.
I think Neverending Story would have been a good vibe for this song... this video is giving Cirque du Soleil. Sorry, artists. Obviously I love the song!
great song, great singer, but the video ...
She's pleasant but her songs have little substance or staying power. She tries to be too complex for their own good. Kate Bush who started out years go so brilliantly eventually went the same way and her albums stopped selling.
Don't appreciate the tearing of pages out of the bible, but other than that I like the song and video.
LMAO at the initial shot, tearing out pages from the Bible and using it as kindling. Ugh I want to like her but that's such a wince inducing cliche.
at least she's using it for something useful
This is serious crap
