I just began using Slate VSX headphones when mixing. I won't say that I mix with them, but I certainly use them to check my mixes in "different environments". In doing this I made a slight change to my montitor calbration (specifically sub versus mains). That change made my monitoring more accurate, especially the low end and low mids.
Great video, I mix 80% on headphone and 20% on monitors. I use the monitors mainly to listen to the mix in a room and to judge the center of the mix and mono compatibility. I also use Sonaworks SoundID and love it. The next step to get an ever better mixing experience on headphones is to acquire a pair from Sonarworks with a custom profile, or to send your headphones in to the guys and get a custom profile created for your favorite hardphones.
@@CantAffordToRecord , yes, I bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880 including a custom profile from Sonarworks I guess two years ago. The custom profile is vastly different from the average profile and flattens out the frequency response even more. The DT-880s have become my main ones for mixing.
Another great video, Robby! I think you've convinced me to give that software a try! I do listen on headphones, 2 different pair and I have multiple sets of monitors as well. Now I want to try with the correction software and see how well my mixes translate.
Hey brother, I would like to critique that mix you did just to screw with ya 😉 I'm joking of course. Because I don't want annoy my family listening all the time through my Evo Focals 65 I do, I'd say about 60 to 70% of my mixing through my DT 990 Pros and Blue Lola's. Use my Focals to hear how wide the stereo field is and to judge volumes on things and to reinsure the low end is good. Keep the videos coming.

I hear great things about Slate VSX - I'll have to check it out!!

Yes! I've always been intrigued by that service! Have you done this? Thanks for watching 🙃

Ha, my mixes are always down for a good critique ;-) Thanks for sharing your process, I'm digging being on headphones for sure!
