Having lived with an Anglosized version of Devora for almost 66 years now, I’ve thought about what being a bee means. They are hard workers for the good of the community. They will give their lives to save their home and family. They spend their lives making honey and honeycomb; lots of scriptures about that. And without these pollinators we wouldn’t have most of the fruits and vegetables that not only sustain us, but enrich our lives. They fly, drink from flowers, and are beautiful! I think it’s a wonderful name!

Picking a baby name is difficult. My Mom had names picked out with each of her eleven children. The baby usually came home with a totally different name than the one she was thinking of. Always told me you have to see the baby then name them. I wish you an easy delivery and a joyous welcoming of your new soul. 🙏

I really enjoyed your name selections. My youngest is Yonasan Hillel for Yonasan ben Uziel and Hillel for Hallel because he was born the last day of Chanukah. Yonasan is "HaShem gives" and Hillel means "praise ". We chose these names also because my husband is a Kohein and so is Yonasan (I always preferred the Ashkenazi pronunciation). My husband and I just loved the name combination. I hope for an easy birth for you and true joy when you and your husband hold your new little one after all you've been through!! My sons have 2 middle names each. One of my oldest son’s middle names is Keegan, it means “little fiery one”. He’s a red head who kicked all the time & put me into early labor at 26 weeks! Thankfully I had him at 35 weeks after LOTS of bed rest & medical intervention. He ended up having a roommate when he moved to Chicago with his job that’s named Eitan. He’s the most observant “non observant” Jew that I have ever met! He was my son’s roommate because he said that his Mom was trying to find him a wife & he didn’t want to marry someone who hadn’t had their own life first. He dating (going out to dinner mainly) an observant woman now & he’s discussing marriage.
Andrea: I was so interested to hear your son’s middle name is “Keegan “--my last name, and that the meaning is “little fiery one”. Some of my brothers also have fiery red hair, too.
My favorite jewish girl’s name is Rivkah and derivatives thereof, and for a boy I like Reuven/Ruben, but I must admit that I’m a pretty big fan of the books of Chaim Potok. Have you ever read anything he’s written? That’s how I know the names😂
What a lovely list. They all sound wonderful to me and I’m sure one of them will fit perfectly once baby arrives. My kids have very old fashioned names because they were named after family members. This is common among lots of people I know and I think it’s driving a resurgence of those names.

It’s cool that Maya is a Jewish name too! I’ve always known it to be Indian in origin(my heritage), where it means illusion. In Hindu mythology, there is a celestial architect known for building illusions in his buildings. However, it’s traditionally a girl’s name. Totally sending vibes for a safe delivery and a speedy recovery!

I am enjoying your jar off fire flys, it warms my heart to see you teaching your children, your life, and your morals , I wish more people were like you. Thanks for sharing your life
As someone with a super-common American name, I appreciate your looking for less-common names for your kids. (It's one thing to know another kid in your neighborhood; it's an entirely different matter when there are three of you in one class!) Wishing for an easy birth and recovery and for this little one to be the perfect addition to your sweet family!
I’m probably biased here, but I love my name. Sabra is a Jewish child born in Israel and it’s also their state flower. It’s prickly on the outside but sweet on the inside. I pronounce it Say-Bra though where in Hebrew is like Saw-bra. You also don’t hear it ever and I’ve always had a ton of compliments. Just an idea ☺️
Today is August 4, and I just finished watching your Q&A, mostly about your children's privacy. Props to you, parents! But then this was offered at the end, and I decided to come watch. Mazel tov on the safe arrival and naming of your son!
Beautiful names, and hearing the origins behind them, makes it more special. When I was young I lived on the west coast and a boy over the road was called Duncan. I had never heard the name before, so when my son was born - Duncan it was. Stay well and safe.
Hi Chana! You are glowing today! Along with the meaning and beautiful sound of the names, I think you need to also take into account what the baby's initials will be. Secondly, even though you wouldn't use a nickname, that doesn't mean others wont. We are all here on pins and needles waiting for your big announcement! 👊 you got this!
I love this! Praying for you and baby. I’m pregnant with baby number 3, due in December. Back in December, 2021 I was praying to God about if I would ever have another baby. I was having desires for a VBA2C, not so much baby fever. He clearly answered with me that if I released my fear and control and had faith in him I would. So, while in the moment of hearing his voice I asked about possible name recommendations and He sent me to the book of Job (a book I haven’t read before), straight to the name Keziah. I instantly loved it. It has a unisex sound to my husband and I, means whole or complete, is the second daughter born to Job, supposedly after healing, and starts with a K (my sisters and I all begin with K). I have been going through major healing from my two c-sections and the mental trauma connected to them, so this is very fitting. My husband still wasn’t agreeing to having another child. We know exactly when I ovulate, so our other children were planned. Towards the end of April I finally fully gave my reproduction cycle to God and prayed that if he had a purpose for a child to help this world and be a deciple of Jesus that my body was his, despite my fear of more birth trauma. Shortly after we learned that I was already pregnant. It was totally a God thing because I ovulated the day after the last day of my period, which has never happened in the almost decade I have tracked my cycle and it was the only day during my cycle we did anything. So, God knew I was going to relinquish my control before I ever did. We are trying to figure out an “A” name. I prefer not finding out the gender until baby is born but I’m struggling bonding with this baby and still haven’t felt that spark of a soul (I felt that literally at the moment of conception with both my boys). So, we are considering learning the gender if we cannot decide on a unisex first name.
I think you just inspired me with a possible name. I like Elisha and could turn it into. Alisha, which means “protected by God.” Got to see what hubby thinks.
Definitely Mayan for a girl. It is a simply beautiful name, and when you said what it means tears came to my eyes (I have no idea why). That's the only one that affected me that way. But, none of the boy names stood out over any other.
I love names, we were very careful in selecting because we didn’t want nicknames either and the meaning was so important because we felt like you speak those characteristics over your child each time you say their name. I loved the names but I’m also a fan of the Martha names 🤭
Chana, I love your channel! Your list of names is beautiful, just a couple of comments: Etai is still commonly given in Israel. We have a grandson named Yedidya who just turned 18 yesterday! I guess it depends on what circles your family and friends are in. Ayala appears in sefer Breishit, chapter 49, in Yakov's blessing to Naftali (but not as a name...). Our second daughter is named Ayala, but that's also a translation of my husband's grandmother's Yiddish name Hinde which means gazelle, as you mentioned. Our Ayala is an amazing young woman, and anyone would be blessed to have such a daughter! May your baby be born be'sha'a tova umutzlachat and may you have much joy and nachat from all of your children!
What lovely names and meanings, as well. I watched a very good Netflix series called Shtisel, which was done in Hebrew, about an orthodox Jewish family in Israel. The characters names really stood out to me, especially Akiva, one of the main characters. You have so many wonderful choices for the new firefly, how exciting!
Hannah I'm not Jewish but I came across your channel somehow and absolutely love you. You radiate such profound warmth, kindness and positive energy. When I'm feeling down your bright smile and kind enthusiasm cheer me up and give me hope. I enjoy everything you talk about and always feel happy when I see a new upload from you. God bless you and thank you for posting such bright and cheerful vlogs. I really enjoy learning more about the Jewish faith as well.I think youre wonderful!
I love old fashioned names, even the "Martha" ones! All of the names you have picked out are very meaningful. I can't wait for you to be able to see your baby's sweet face and name him or her. I check daily your Instagram and the TH-cam community page to see if there is a new baby announcement! Congrats on the Native sponsorship, your channel is growing quickly!! Hugs, love, and prayers to you and your family. B'sha'ah tovah!
Hello! TH-cam just recommended your channel to me, and I am so happy. I’ve been binge watching your videos all day and I just love them all, and enjoy everything that I’m learning and yet somehow feels intrinsic to me. Hope that you are resting up for your precious next baby. Sending love from Australia 🇦🇺
@@jaroffireflies I’m beyond happy to have found you! I have so many questions for you, but will go through all of your videos first before bombarding you. Your husband seems absolutely delightful, and your children are blessed to enjoy a childhood such as they are receiving. ❤️
@@Diorella_scent Aw thank you! I appreciate you! Feel free to ask questions (though I may refer you to a video lol). The q and a videos are great to watch too since I answer so many questions there!
@@jaroffireflies Before I try and get some sleep, I wanted to share that I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 40 plus years, and am wondering how you manage your child’s? Do you use an insulin pump with Bluetooth sharing capabilities and also most importantly a Continuous Glucose Monitor?
The list of names you have are absolutely beautiful! I know whichever one you pick is going to be perfect for the little firefly! I’m so excited for you and can’t wait! Sending you much love and best wishes in your labor when it comes! ♥️
I love that you wait to meet your baby before choosing a name. I always tell my daughter that she told me her name. Lots of boy and girl names had been written down, but hers came to me as I held her. I've never regretted it. In our family we never use nick names either. I don't understand why so many Americans do that. I hope you have a safe delivery.
I love a lot of the names that you mentioned because these are also comparable to our religious names. Love the story time behind the names, fantastic! Easy, Quick and Healthy Birth to you !!! Happy and Safe 4th of July to you and your family Chana!
Great names. I'm in the UK and the name Martha has become very popular along with what my husband calls over granny names like Ada, Ivy and Edith. We are neither religious or Jewish but nearly called our youngest son Oren after a wonderful Israeli friend xxx
עדה/ Adah here 🙋🏻♀️ so you mean my name is becoming popular again? 😂 In Israel many Jews from Yemen have my name and other Sephardim but usually the joke amongst my Israeli friends was “oh I have an older aunt named Adah” 🤦🏻♀️But it is a name from the Torah meaning “adornment” and the modern version is Adi and there is also Adiya.
Chana, I think all of the girls and boys names you have on that list are so pretty. Whatever name you do choose, I am sure it will be perfect for your child. God Bless You.
Hi Chanda, I came across your channel a couple of days ago and I find it so interesting. I’m not Jewish but I think religion is such a wonderful topic. I’m fascinated by the different rituals/traditions and cultures. I’m particularly interested in listening to you for a couple of reasons. Firstly the fact you converted from Catholicism (like you I wasn’t aware you could convert into Judaism) and secondly because I have a young male neighbour who left the Jewish religion and tells me so many interesting stories. I wish you well with your pregnancy, birth and future. I’m sure your baby will be loved and cherished which is all anybody can ask for regardless of their religion.
I love the name Martha. We are born again Christians. My Sister’s daughter is in her late 30’s and her name is Martha. She is a homeschooling mother of 4 married to a Christian minister. It's a beautiful name.
I enjoy the 1000 Hours Outside podcast, and a few other nature based podcasts like some birdwatching ones and The Nature Guys (especially the older episodes, I like to search by topic)
I love Jael. She has a great story, and I love telling it when someone needs to know women have always been powerful. I've heard of the name Emre, but from a TH-cam wedding. He was quite a handsome groom. Thank you for sharing your lists with us, these were very interesting, and I'll keep the one I guessed to myself. Mazel tov!
Love your name choices. My husband also had issues with some of the names I picked, he wanted old fashioned and I wanted more modern, but we did work it out to the satisfaction of both of us.
I named my 2 boys Luke and David. With both of them, I had names picked out pre birth, but they were not those names once I met them face to face. ❤❤ My grandmother had 6 children and you could really get her going asking if the mother or father should be the one to make a final decision on a baby name. “I carried them, I gave birth to them, it’s mainly the mother who cares for them, she gets to pick the name!” Apparently there had been a disagreement between her and my grandfather regarding this topic, lol.
Such lovely meaningful names. I had names all picked out for my children and they both changed - my daughter’s was changed as soon as she was born and my son’s changed when we told someone his name and they said a nickname for it that I did not like. I immediately picked another name and my husband agreed. (He really wasn’t going to get a say since he named our daughter and we had agreed that I could choose our son’s name. But I did want him to like it. Lol) Happy 4th of July! And many blessings as you (well all of us) await Baby Firefly’s arrival!
Beautiful names all. You’ve a difficult choice ahead of you. How many children are you hoping for? A house full of children is a truly happy home. Best wishes to you and your family.
I'm italian and not jewish but my grandma was named iaele (italian version, always a vowel at the end of a word) and i loved her so much. She was the only italian with this name and it's so special for our family. Best wishes.
Hi Chana! What a lovely list of names! Praying for a safe and easy labor and delivery for you and baby firefly. Believe it or not, my criteria for names included how it would sound if I shouted it outside! As always a pleasure to watch and learn.....
I never have loved nicknames either, although I grew up with a nickname. I always called my children by their names although one daughter with a longer name got a nickname in high school. You’re smart to wait to choose a name until you see the child. A baby is born with a personality that comes through pretty quickly. And a name bestows a blessing and hope for a person’s whole life.
I never clicked so fast on a video. I love name discusions! Elisha is a beautiful name and one of my favorites. Praying for an easy birth and a healthy lil' fireflie.
Just had my son on May 22nd named him Callum it means Dove which in my faith of Christianity is the symbol for the holy spirit. It is also a Scottish name and my mother was born in Scotland and Scotland has a very special place in my heart so all my baby names will be Scottish
Love the names. I’m sure you and Mr. Firefly will know the right name for baby when you see him/her. My given name is Debra..My son’s names are Robert and Andrew. Many blessings for a safe and speedy delivery!
We named our daughter Hava as in Chava in hopes people would correctly pronounce her name. They don’t. I should have just spelled it with a C. The name fits her perfectly though.
I want to tell you that you look glowingly beautiful as well as the picture of health❣️The color of the scarf you’re wearing is my favorite on you - I couldn’t make out how it is tied. Be well🙂 Love the possible banes you’ve chosen.
On the final note, I wanted to say that my husband and I could never agree on a name before the baby was born. We had a few picks that we liked, but as soon as we saw the baby, we knew what the name should be.
These are all beautiful names 🥰 I’m super happy that my Jewish name made your top 3, I’m Maayan 😉 Just FYI, Ayala is a beautiful name but if you ever want to make Aliyah you will most certainly know maaaany Ayala’s, it’s a very popular name at the moment and if you like your names to stay “rare” that won’t be the case 😉
My name is Mya. German is our first language, and my holocaust survivor grandmother Elfriede chose the name. My mother liked Heather, but due to my grandmother’s very strong accent, it would come out of her mouth sounding like Heifer, so she wasn’t very enthused by that name. I can tell you that I am constantly being complimented on my name, I have zero recollection of teasing or anything from it. Can’t wait to see your new kiddo soon! Praying for a smooth delivery, healthy mom, and baby!
Oh my, they are all wonderful names! My great niece was born yesterday named Esther...that particular part of my family do not believe but I pray so for them and think of the wonderful Queen in the OT. She's a very special little one, the first since I lost my beloved sister..Thank you Father for all these precious wee ones 😘❤🙏
I had the same issue with trying to find names that had not been used in our huge family. Middle names were easy since they could be one that had been used. Our children have two middle names so that’s always fun to find two that go well with their first name.
I had a list of baby names for boys & girls. Though I had amniocentesis twice during my pregnancy, I refused to learn the sex of the baby. I narrowed the list from a dozen of each, to two each by the time I gave birth: Nathan Alexander & Kevin Michael Meghan Eileen & Kaitlin Rose Upon seeing her, I knew she was a Meghan! It was 1985, I had read "The Thorn Birds" and fell in love with the name. Sorry, to say, a lot of people read the book and the name exploded. It became very popular. It wasn't too bad until high school. She was one of eleven flutist in the marching band, FIVE named Megan!! She always jokes that when she's in a nursing home, they'll call out "Megan" and a bunch of old ladies will answer. I gave her the Irish spelling with the "H" but that elicited another problem... she could never find any of those novelties with her name on them! Your baby will be blessed whichever name you choose. God, bless.
Devorah stands out as a favorite…also like Sarah, Rebekah, Naomi, Esther, and Miriam. My four are Leah, Jacob, Samuel, and Anna. I know what you mean about popular names. I didn’t know any Jacobs until l had my son and then all of a sudden there were at least 5. I like that you wait until the baby is born to make your final choice. Praying for a safe delivery and healthy wee one.
I did the same thing when I had my daughter Trinda Anne need a biblical name to get baptized, I named her the 3rd day after she was born, my family kept sending me names to choose from. So then my Uncle Bill and Aunt Nan sent their list and Trinda was on it I looked at her and it was perfect, I like odd names, but Trinda my uncles grandmothers name in Ireland and my grandmother was Anna didn’t go made it Anne. Then my daughter had a girl and she combined Trinda and Helene and we got our Trilene the first three letter lie Tra or tre. . It also was perfect for her. We like different names what can I say. Good luck and hoping for a short labor, my daughter weighted less than 100 lbs. and I’d 5’1” and had an 8 lb 7 oz baby naturally. He doctors wanted to induce but my Baba said when the apple is ripe it will fall from the tree. Lol

My daughter's high school class had four Sarahs. They called one another by their last names to avoid confusion.
Well, it is everyone’s favorite brand of hummus in the United states
@@Randilynn66 yes! I love the hummus.
Today is August 4, and I just finished watching your Q&A, mostly about your children's privacy. Props to you, parents! But then this was offered at the end, and I decided to come watch. Mazel tov on the safe arrival and naming of your son!
Thank you!
Beautiful names, and hearing the origins behind them, makes it more special. When I was young I lived on the west coast and a boy over the road was called Duncan. I had never heard the name before, so when my son was born - Duncan it was. Stay well and safe.
I have two of your girl name options - Maya Yael! I’m 26 weeks pregnant with my baby boy and choosing names is so hard! 💕
So exciting! Bashaa tova!
Such lovely names! And such a blessing to have a new baby on the way! Your family is in our prayers.
Your list of names is beautiful, just a couple of comments:
Etai is still commonly given in Israel.
Love the color of your scarf it is very flattering! ❤️
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your life with us. I greatly admire your devotion to your husband and children. I wish you a safe delivery!
Thank you so very much for your lovely comment! You absolutely made my day so thank you for that :)
I absolutely adored this video. Thank you so much for sharing! They are all such beautiful names with beautiful meanings!
Thank you!
Thank you 😊❤️
And Martha is a HUUUUUGE name here in Brazil
Thank you and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!
@@Diorella_scent we use a CGM and pump.
I love your head scarf! The color and the shimmer. Plus the earrings are awesome too!
Thank you so much 😊
The list of names you have are absolutely beautiful! I know whichever one you pick is going to be perfect for the little firefly! I’m so excited for you and can’t wait! Sending you much love and best wishes in your labor when it comes! ♥️
I'm SO happy for you!❤️
I love that you wait to meet your baby before choosing a name.
Oren means pine tree in Hebrew. Lovely name.
Hi Chanda,
I came across your channel a couple of days ago and I find it so interesting.
Welcome!
Chana, these are some of the most beautiful names I have ever heard. Thank you so much for sharing them.
You are so welcome! I am so glad you like them :)
I love the name Martha. We are born again Christians. My Sister’s daughter is in her late 30’s and her name is Martha. She is a homeschooling mother of 4 married to a Christian minister. It's a beautiful name.
What podcasts to you particularly like? I’m looking for some. So happy for you and your family with coming baby. Praying for easy, safe delivery.
I enjoy the 1000 Hours Outside podcast, and a few other nature based podcasts like some birdwatching ones and The Nature Guys (especially the older episodes, I like to search by topic)
Good to be back on TH-cam 🙂 after hacker troubles but so love your videos
Welcome back!!!! So sorry you had those troubles!!!
Oh my goodness! Your husband's Martha analogy is hysterical!!
Right?!? 😂
Glad it all worked out :)
I named my 2 boys Luke and David. With both of them, I had names picked out pre birth, but they were not those names once I met them face to face. ❤❤
My grandmother had 6 children and you could really get her going asking if the mother or father should be the one to make a final decision on a baby name.
All my best wishes for you and your new baby!
Thank you Irina!
Love your list of names. Wishing you a blessed, short, and as painless a possible birth.
Thank you Kristin!
Beautiful names all. You’ve a difficult choice ahead of you. How many children are you hoping for? A house full of children is a truly happy home. Best wishes to you and your family.
My favorite baby names:
Boy: Levi , Shalom, Noah , Saadya, Yosef, Ohr.
Girl: Hodaya,Naomi, Zohara , Zohar, Tehila, Roza, Hallel
Such a wonderful video. I love hearing the meanings of names. I praying for an easy delivery and recovery. Much love ❤️
I’m so excited to see which name fits ☺️
Thank you for giving us some ideas on names! ❤️
I love Yael for a boy and Maya for a girl, both have great meanings. Praying for an easy delivery and health for both of you, be blessed 🙌
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! Pray for a safe and beautiful birthing!
Love and blessings from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
I never clicked so fast on a video. I love name discusions! Elisha is a beautiful name and one of my favorites.
Praying for an easy birth and a healthy lil' fireflie.
Thank you!!! ❤️
You’re glowing 🥰💕love your story and content
Thank you 😊
Just had my son on May 22nd named him Callum it means Dove which in my faith of Christianity is the symbol for the holy spirit.
It’s a beautiful name
I want to tell you that you look glowingly beautiful as well as the picture of health❣️The color of the scarf you’re wearing is my favorite on you - I couldn’t make out how it is tied.
Be well🙂
Love the possible banes you’ve chosen.
I love the name Nava. One of my hobbies was looking up baby names and finding the meanings, because I wanted to write. (Never did write).
Your face lit up when you said Mayr and Hebrew Abigail.
On the final note, I wanted to say that my husband and I could never agree on a name before the baby was born. We had a few picks that we liked, but as soon as we saw the baby, we knew what the name should be.
Lots of meaningful names to choose from….will be fun to learn which name fits the baby
These are all beautiful names 🥰 I’m super happy that my Jewish name made your top 3, I’m Maayan 😉
Just FYI, Ayala is a beautiful name but if you ever want to make Aliyah you will most certainly know maaaany Ayala’s, it’s a very popular name at the moment and if you like your names to stay “rare” that won’t be the case 😉
Thank you for sharing your baby names with us. Such beautiful names - all of them!!
Mazal tov!
My name is Elisha, it was all by accident but once in a great while, someone will pronounce it Eli sha . It's pronounce Ee lee sha . So cool.
Favorite Hebrew/Aramaic names:
Boys: Tavi "beloved", Tavish "ocean", Zakai "pure", Simcha "joy", Feivel "bright one", Micah "Who is like God?", Efraim "being fruitful"
Girls: Nahara "light", Talitha "little girl", Eliana "God has answered", Tirzah "pleasant", Dafna "laurel"
Our little Abigail is definitely her fathers joy. 💕
I narrowed the list from a dozen of each, to two each by the time I gave birth:
Nathan Alexander & Kevin Michael
Meghan Eileen & Kaitlin Rose
Upon seeing her, I knew she was a Meghan!
God, bless.
Lovely names and so great to listen to the historical context of the names.
You will know when you see your babe the name it is to be blessed with. I can’t wait - I daresay you are more impatient! 💕
I’m sure you will pick a lovely name and have a healthy, beautiful baby. Blessings.
Very thorough research on the names. We know now that the precious baby firefly was a boy! Blessings ❤️
Thank you! 🤗
Lol
