This car is a real total gem. In fact, just like the Cadillac and the Chrysler Imperial at the time, the Ford Mercury Lincoln Continental was the epitomy of luxury in terms of high class automobile back in its heydays. Especially with the 462 cubic inch motor that came along with it too. Thank you for this eloquent presentation, Lou. Greetings and Salutations to you, my friend. Johnny from Montreal Rosemont, Canada 👍

My Dad loved his ragtops. First he bought the 62 Cadillac Sedan Deville ragtop, then he bought the 63 Lincoln Continental ragtop in black. I loved that slab Lincoln. As kids when that top went down and folded into the trunk it was a show stopper.

I love 61-64 Continentals, the 62-64 grilles are wonderful and simple. I notice the the 57 Premier behind has an interesting paint job, I'd love a review of that Lou? The simplicity of the design here along with the 64-66 Imperials by Elwood Engle are what make them so attractive.

Great Continental Lou! I have to tell you in 1988 a friend asked me to go to Atlantic City Convention Auto Auction in February. This would be my second year going with him. The first year I brought no money and I was like a kid in a candy store looking at all the neat cars. The second year I brought $5000 and saw this car although it was a '63 same color with a hardtop and only 60K on the 430CID engine. The car was in amazing condition and the 85 year old man wanted $3500. I asked if he thought the car would make it back to Mass. He let me take his plates and I bought the car! Not only did it make it to Mass on that Freezing cold 12 degree day I drove at 75mph most of the way and loved that car has A/C and power everything and the chrome and paint was near perfect. It may have been super cold out but I was all warm inside and so happy! I am so sad I sold that car to a multi millionaire from Conn. I loved that car!

Never saw one of these cars close up, always just seemed like they only existed on TV...I too, love the rounded front fenders, and the dash is so cool. I don't remember ever seeing this style dash in this version of continentals, just remember that dual console look. Getting all that trunk top stuff to work correctly after doing body work would have been the sign of a great body man!

+kramden Hi Kramden, Seems so simple lines on the outside, and yet so complex under the hood, interior, and convertible trunk. Interesting car. Thanks for viewing, Lou

I was 12 years old when this car was new. Prefer this car to the T Bird convertermobile. Sorry about my poor spelling! Will always remember this model and style Lincoln as the type of automobile President John Kennedy died in, in November 1963. The day my childhood started to end. Thank You! Peter Brooks.

The 64 is my favorite of the slab-side era begun in 1961. My father bought a white exterior/tan leather interior '64 sedan from the local dealer's showroom. It and the 2000 Lincoln LS were the only Lincolns he owned. The door locks and remote trunk release (on a sedan) were hydraulic. And my understanding was the wipers were fluid run off the power steering pump, though could be wrong. What I find amusing is that it appears the standard 9-speed wiper blade control knob on this convertible is a bit skewed to the left as was ours. That always bugged me. With our sedan, if you were turning the vehicle into a corner and you hit a bump at the same time, the windshield wipers often made one swipe on, then off. It was a quirk the dealer's shop never could figure out.
This classic, lightly adorned vehicle looks more like a piece to be placed in the Museum of Modern Art compared to the still overly-chromed Caddys of the day. And although Chrysler had made similar sleek, less adorned Imperials by that time as well, they weren't as unique as the Lincoln. The Imperials merely looked like big, somewhat goofy (depending on the exact year) Plymouths.
The power vent windows up front were neat. They were often referred to as butterfly windows in the day. I have never run across any power butterfly windows in any other cars of the day. At least not ones that rotated.
I wish the video could have demonstrated (if the relays still work on this model) the automatic feature of the rear door windows. If the windows in the rear were up, they automatically lowered by about two inches when opened, then returned to up/closed position when the door was closed. Since there is no center post between the front and rear doors (at window level) this was to avoid the window frames knocking into one another if front and rear doors were closed at the same time while both windows were in in the fully raised positions..
Also connected to these Lincolns were the T-Birds as another poster stated.. We had a 62 T-bird hardtop prior to this 64 Lincoln. And you could see where the front styling of the Lincoln came from. If looking at the T-bird front straight on, the only key difference is that the body edges on either side of the headlights came to a point on the Bird.

You are very welcome. And thanks to you for these videos. Maybe some day if our paths cross and when I get another of my father's auto purchases up to show quality (a 1972 Ford LTD convertible---last of the big ones from Ford) you can do a video on it!

My big brother bought a '64 Lincoln Continental in 1971, for about $375.00 in White with Black Leather!! I remember the day he pulled up with the car.....The minute I seen that Lincoln, I fell in Love, I was only 5 years old, but still understood the coolness of the car, even at only 5 years old!!!! That car made an impression on me!!!! My favorite of all time!!!!!!

I'm thinking this car came out of the factory as equipped with an MSRP of about $8000. The base price without options was about $6400. Leather and air conditioning were optional back then. A truly beautiful car.

Do I correctly observe that the interior lights came on automatically when he turned the ignition off?? If so, that would seem to be a totally modern feature you get in luxury automobiles today.
I watched it several times, and he didn't reach for the door handle until after he shut the engine off.
