the purpose of the TV Licence is for the public broadcaster to generate some funds. and you can no longer buy a TV in South Africa without a TV Licence, you have to get a TV licence and then you can own a TV set.
The license is not for the actual TV but for the privilege of receiving the signal from the broadcaster.They are providing service yet so many people refuse to pay.
Wow, I've never heard of a TV license. In the US we just pay for the TV when we buy it and then for the cable or satellite subscription. I guess different governments have different ways of taxing people.
