TJ Swan wasn't a "drink" it was our "right of passage" along with "Boones Farm" "Annie Green spring" and the notoriously famous "MD 20/20" Trust me, if you hadn't taken a sip from one of these wine bottles you wasn't a "man" in your hood. 😂😂
I'm sitting here wondering how I could have lived 50 years in NYC and never heard of the other two TJ Swans. The only one I knew was Juice Crew TJ Swan. So TJ Swan from the Juice Crew just passed two days ago and this is the first I'm hearing about it. May they both rest in peace indeed. Great video.
When this song was out, I was trying to cop leathers and clothes at Delancey Street and not get robbed in hemmed up by the Brooklyn kids, I was coming all the way from Uptown dolo on the train just to get some gear. Being Fly in the 80's you definitely knew what the risks were. The YSL frames was popping, shearlings, 20 below Timbs, champion hoodies. Decepts on the train hitting people with hammers in the head, girls sticking people with needles. Crazy 80's!
I remember them days and although they were wild and crazy they were the best years of my life. Im born and raised in Brooklyn and i too had to be on point for them Brooklyn dudes anit nothing soft this way, but thats the way it was ( example) Brooklyn dudes don't get along with each other, but will come together to form against anyone who violates us, but then we get back to our individual beefs @DisplacedAfrican1
Well you all know TJ Swan who sang on my records "Make the Music", "Nobody Beats the Biz", well, check it.... RIP TJ Swan 🙏🏼❤ 🦢 Appreciate this breakdown of history brother ✊🏼💯
R.I.P. Juice Crew TJ Swan. Thank you for breaking down the mystery and confusion surrounding the TJ Swan name, JayQuan. I had to replay the last two minutes of this video a few times to rock out and reminisce.
I'm usually not a fan of singing on rap records, however the TJ Swan of Biz was pretty unique and pleasant to hear, same can be said of the singing on the track "Here Comes That Beat" wich didn't make the track less dope. Originality was so important in the 80's (unlike now when every rapper sounds the same) rip to the 2 TJ Swans.
Wow!! History! So timely!! So well edited and arranged! Never knew any of that. I only knew Biz's TJ Swan. Never knew of the drink or the other 2. I'm from Chicago, maybe a regional thing. Great job bro! Peace, love and thanks!
Wow!!! RIP Juice Crew Swan❤ Never knew of QB Swan RIP. Harlem Swann used to Rock Parties in Y.O. at Arthur's, The 116, DeLeon's, etc... 914 till the break of dawn!!! Good Times❤
Wow!!! What a dope hip-hop history lesson! I only knew about TJ Swan from The Juice Crew, growing up in Philly trying to find hip hop on the radio (shout out to Lady B). Great post, thanks for sharing🫡
I recently was listening to the Stupid Fly Podcast "Smooth Era". They interviewed Garfield from the R&B group Shai. Garfield said one of his influences was "TJ Swan with the Juice Crew". When the podcast played a sample of TJ Swan's music, they played the Harlem TJ Swan, not the Juice Crew member. I was like "YO! That's the wrong TJ SWAN! THERES MORE THAN ONE!"
Man that got me baffled I never knew that 3 T.J. Swans existed ,the only I one that knew of was the one that sung with the late Biz Markie and the juice crew members and I never knew that T.J. Swan was the name of a drink. Rest in Peace to the two T.J Swans.
Kudos to @TheFoundation - I worked with Claude "Smitty" Smith - Mel "Pee Wee Mel" Anderson - TJ Swan - and Barry "Barry B Boulevard' Ford (GOD Rest his soul) on "Rock It Out" - I played keyboards on this track - Forward Records used to be Smitty's Record shop on 144th and Amsterdam Avenue in Harlem - Great research by @TheFoundation - th-cam.com/video/953rAzD_b6E/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for enlightening i sur didn't know TJ Swan was a liquor. Very good documentary. But why is this commercial giving me luv that chicken from Popeye's commercial 😅😅🎉

WHAAAT WHOE WOW RIP TO MY DUDE THE GOD/KING T.J SWANN. FROM JUICE CREW. ALONG WITH THE OTHER BROTHERS AS WELL.. CHEERS & SALUTE U WILL NEVER E EVER BE FORGOTTEN!!![999]
I seen TJ Swann perform in Phlly and always thought that Biz used a OG on his record to get a little more star power on Make the Music coming out the box, as a DJ I did notice the difference spelling on the single and just passed it off as a typo or having to spell it that way for copyright or legal purposes. What I wasn’t aware of that there was a drink with the name too!
The name T.J Swan was a character from the 70's TV show S.W.A.T. The introduction to the TV show was a breakbeat by Rhythm Heritage. The beat was popular in all the hip hop clubs back in the day. Swan most likely borrowed the name after watching the show.
