  • Hi My name is Marina! My channel is about my journey with my first horse Kazí! I spent my childhood begging my parents for lessons and a horse. I dreamt about horses and read all the pony pals books. Now, 1 million years later, I FINALLY I have my first horse.
    You can hear about my riding story in this video:

    I just bought this unit and I’m fixing to install. I’m wondering if you kept this exposed to the elements and if it’s weather proof?

    How many days worth of feed can it hold before needing to be replenished?

    I might use this for my Koi pond, seems to be well built. I wonder if the pellet size are too small would it cause issues. Koi food is tiny compared to those horse pellets.

    HI. glad I found this video. I am thinking about the solar charged feeder bc my hubby says the battery one will not last. Which one did you get? With trickle feeder? thanks.

      I got a motorcycle battery and it lasted about a year- then you can recharge it and it’ll go again for another year. So I think either works! Obviously the solar one would be nice because you don’t have to replace it.

    Hi! I’m veeeery intrigued by this feeder. How does the 2” pvc fitting attach to that feeder itself? Is it a threaded fitting? And then you added the tape just as reinforcement?

      Use a heat gun to shape and drive so self tapping short screws to lock in place.

      Also wrap the pipe in electric fence wire. If you don't the animal will smell the feed and tear it apart to try to get to the feed. Charged fence wire stops this quickly and the animal will only touch the feed and not the hardware.

      I thought your site said it had to be inside a barn or covered area. Can this be used outdoors like they have in a pen?

      @@stylishranchgirl Hello! The feeders do need to be protected from the environment. Rain, snow, an extreme cold can affect the feeders functionality. It looks like in the video they have covered the timer and the top of the hopper with a plastic cover, assuming to protect it from the rain. As long as there’s not freezing temperatures this set up would probably work fine. We see people that will often cover these with a simple plastic trash bin, or build a small enclosure around the feeder to protect it from the elements and from other animals. I hope this helps!

    I saw where you said this is your first horse. Please get rid of all the barbed wire.......you can thank me later and please don't feed him on the ground. Depending on what kind of soil you have it can cause a colic and you don't want to deal with that. Getting one of these for our goats too.

    Have you had issues running pellets threw this, does it ever jam?

    • @GypsyEquestrian
      @GypsyEquestrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyler Milanese hi there! I have had no issues with jamming with pellets. I have a mix of hay pellets, grain and rice bran and have had no problems with it. I’ve used this since this video went up and the only thing I needed to replace was the motorcycle battery! I 100% recommend this to everyone. Just make sure you put a trash bag over the body / computer it’s not supposed to get wet!

      Avoid sweet feeds as they are sticky, can cause bridging or other problems. The Quick Way is better made and may not have this problem but you cannot be sure. 12 volt units have more power for the grain pump. This video feeds the horse on the ground but I suggest using a trough to reduce the problem with parasites.

    I wonder how long it stayed, up. A nice video and a very good effort, but I don't think it's very stable. I would have done it differently.

      It stayed up there for two years and then I took it down when I moved and have it with me (though it is not in use at this time)

    Is this still working out / running OK?

    • @GypsyEquestrian
      @GypsyEquestrian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! Yeah it is! I originally thought I would only use it during the winter months but I’ve kept it up and have had her on alfalfa pellets and grain since we installed it. It’s not waterproof so we have kept a heavy duty black trash bag over it and I haven’t had a single issue with it! It’s honestly been a life saver for us!

      Does your horse do ok by himself? I need to move my horse to my place, but am not ready to buy a 2nd horse. Also did you use solar powered or battery?
