The first Bolero with rectangular headlamps was the most handsome SUV other than he Safari, though not as comfortable. It still had best in class ac and handling was better than the Sumo and Qualis. The two-tone paint job with maroon body and gold bumpers looked best.
The new headlamps in 2007-2008 made it even better looking. The 2-door version would have been a great competitor to the Gypsy had Mahindra persisted with it.

I have been a proud owner of Mahindra Bolero from 2007 to 2009. I did 35000 Kms in two years. The only thing I disliked about Bolero was its Steering Wheel. Bolero's Steering Wheel is positioned a bit too high & also a bit too big in diameter which causes fatigue on long journeys. Otherwise, Bolero never disappointed me on any front.

Bolero was my favorite car and I own 2012 m2dicr crde engine, which clocked more than 1 lakh. But due to taxation and all, bolero was forced to cut size and engine size, which caused it to lost its charm. Now market share of mahindra in India has lost lot of percentage.
