How to Make Bonsai from a Rose Bush 🌱🌹 Mame Bonsai

  • In this video we create Mame/Mini Bonsai from a Rose Bush. Rose as a species is not so common for Bonsai trees. However, certian varietys of Rose do have many desireable traits that we would look from a species for Bonsai.
    Some varietys have small leaves and even the beautiful rose blossoms can be small. They also grow pretty fast! I think that this is a great species for beginners to Bonsai as roses are easily accessable, cheap and grow fast compared to other Bonsai trees like Junipers and Pines.
    A Mame/Mini Bonsai is a tree that shorter than 15cm. "Mame" 豆 is Japanese for "Bean" which is small, like a little Bonsai!

    Great work Adam! I've never tried rose as bonsai, maybe I should. My wife might get more interested in bonsai then!
    When you have a tiny pot, you could consider wiring the mesh to the underside of the pot, so you get an extra 1/2 cubic centimetre of soil space. Not always possible, depends on the pot...

    • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Dave 🙂 Rose is a fun one to work on and results can be seen really quickly! Thanks for that tip about the mesh! I'll definitely keep that in mind when I do more mame trees 🤗

    Well Adam heree I am again. I found 2 containers of dwarf rose's at Walmart a total of 8. I clipped the dead blooms and placed them in pots with sphagnum moss like your video. I also fed them and used good potting soil. Instruction says full Sun however afternoon Sun was a bit too harsh. I clipped the branches that were showing signs of stress. Gave them a short time of morning Son then back to my covered porch. Also my last Airlayer finding was heavy calluses at the top of my cuttings. I wish I could send you a picture. I am so excited about this since watching your videos. Maybe I'm not wrapping them tight enough.

    Well...your video today inspired me. I really didn't think too much of a rose bonsai, but after seeing your video I headed out to my local Lowe's store. They had a large display of the rose bush trunk chops (roots were wrapped in plastic). • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey thank you! You want to provide a shaded, moist area with good air circulation. Keep the soil slightly acidic and consistently moist, watering regularly. With these conditions, you can promote moss growth for your bonsai or garden.
      If you collect some of this moss too, then blend it up into a paste, dilute it down with some water, you will have moss spores you can water ontop of the pot to have it grow there naturally over time!
