It’s really nice to see someone talking about car-prices in a more normal way. Most people watching probably cant afford even the car in this review. It’s alot of money- unless you belong to the very small group of really rich people..
I own a red c7 manual and my wife loves the car. We joined the local Corvette club and cruise all the time. If you buy one of these it will do 90% of what Doug’s sports cars can do at a tenth of the price.
I drove my C7 to Costco. I had a 2019 manual. It handled the purchases quite well but all my friends gave me grief for taking it there. Loved your review !!
I liked this video a lot! Filippo made all the same mental arguments I did when deciding to look for a C7. I am also a Costco lover and New Balance wearer, but I'm not buying the car to try to restore my youth, it's because it makes the most sense of all the fun cars in the price range. Not enough good C7 reviews out there because the car came out just before the high quality channels started up. In 2014 you pretty much had Top Gear and the Motor Trend YT channel.
I have a 2014 z51 with the 7 speed manual. Fantastic car that is both extremely fun and practical. I have taken it on road trips and gotten almost 30 mpg and I've gone to the grocery store and brought back a full shopping trip worth of items. The 2014 has some weird electrical issues with the center screen (it has been replaced 3 times now lol) and the backup camera works when it feels like it but otherwise a rock solid car never had any drivetrain issues or major repair bills coming up on 50k miles now. I really think now is the time to get into these cars because as v8 manual transmission cars start to fade farther into the past these will hold their value and might even go up a bit in the enthusiast market. You really can not go wrong with a c7 right now.
Do it! I have a 2014 C7 Z51 with the manual with 40k on it. Zero problems with street and track use. I got videos on my site. As mentioned in this review it’s a practical daily driver due to the hatch size and it’s a great GT cruiser. My wife uses ours for Costco runs too. I’ve gotten 33 mpg on the highway. That wing is stupid, the normal Z51 spoiler is low and out of the way. You want the mag-ride and performance exhaust for sure. Mag-ride has spoiled me for life… every car should have adjustable suspension, it can be smooth for cruising around town or long highway drives or on-rails / locked stiff for twisty roads / track work. The manual with rev match is fantastic. Visibility isn’t bad either, my 350Z was worse. None of the other cars you mentioned as competition will be as reliable. The LT1 V8 is known for being bulletproof (it’s an old school truck engine) as long as avoid Eco mode with cylinder deactivation. If it needs work you are on,y paying Chevy prices. The 3LT interior is comparable to Porsche, mine has leather, Alcantara, carbon fiber, aluminum along with logical switches and good screens with some dash customization. The PMT (traction control) is awesome on track allowing enough slip to corner without letting you spin out. Ignore the haters and get one… you will not regret it at all.
Love the going to Costco part. Reminds me when Tiff went to a grocery store with the McLaren F1 to prove it was an everyday car. Same with Brundel taking the Diablo 6.0 to the store.
like you, I'm a very practical guy and I've only owned fairly boring, practical cars. Last year I got a 1996 C4 Corvette and it's been almost life changing. So much FUN to drive. I take it everywhere, mundane drives turn into fun drives just because of the car I'm driving. I love my C4 but it is a bit dated and if I ever replace it, I think it'll be a C7. Thanks for the video, I could relate to it.
I daily drive a C7 Z06 w/ Z07 package and previously daily’d a C7 Stingray with Z51 package. I’ve got over 60k miles in a C7 total. My thoughts: 1. The leather dash on the 3LT/3LZ trim is notorious for peeling just like European cars. The 2LT/2LZ is the sweet spot. 2. Reliability is excellent. Known expensive issues include torque tube failure and A8 transmission shutter, but these are still relatively rare. Getting a stick alleviates most issues. 3. The NA V8 is a really quick car and is the best speed/looks/sound you can get in this price range. The Z06 is a different animal and will punish the non-enthusiast. 4. The 2016-2019 includes apple car play and overall better technology packages (especially in the Z06). My stingray was a 2014 and I would never go back to the lack of tech now that I’m in a 2016. 5. For a sports car, it’s an excellent daily driver. Ride height makes it easy to avoid scrapes. Suspension even in the Z51/Z07 is stiff enough to take turns at 100mph+ but still live-able with bumps. On the highway and with my wife in the car I can average around 25mpg without going into V4. Normal, spirited daily driving on streets/highways leaves me around 12mpg.
Fillipo!!! Nice review. I have a C7 z51 (without magneride) 7speed. It's been great! Matter of fact, it's actually been a problem. I'm ready to do something else, but I can't seem to pull the trigger because I can't bring myself to sell it. *I would not pay for magneride*
Mag-ride is the best feature of my Z51. The normal suspension is pretty good but mag-ride is magical… it can be almost normal car soft or as stiff as any dedicated track car.
Same here! I love the C7! Definitely one of the top used cars I would consider buying in the near future. A lot of car for the money. Super fast and the last manual Corvette you can buy. I would rather have a C7 than a C8 for that reason. I don't care if the C8 is faster. I want to actually be engaged in driving, dammit!
Ciao Filippo, complimenti per il video! Spero che Doug ti lascerà fare qualche video in più prossimamente...anche uno in italiano per onorare le tue origini 😉 Cari Saluti dalla Svizzera
I owned a 2014 z51 and sold it in 2020 for my new c8. Different cars but I really missed the manual it’s a more engaging experience. I bought a base c7 I can say I don’t miss the z51. I drive the car hard on mountain roads but don’t track it. The base suspension is a better all round ride than the magna ride to me. Maybe consider a manual base - great car!
I own both a 2013 MINI Cooper S and a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. You can easily love both very much simultaneously. Buy the C7. You won’t regret it. Don’t worry about image. Worry about what puts a smile on your face. We already own cars that are not good for the “image” (MINI, Fiat) 😅.
Great thing about a C7 is you can own it and enjoy it and then sell it again for basically no loss. I think they will even start trending upward now that you can’t get FR/7MT in the C8
Filippo, find a M7, you'll love the control the manual gives you over the A8. BTW, had a 2014 for six years; my wife and I road tripped from home (Arkansas) to the east coast, west coast, Yellowstone, Key West, and bunches of shorter trips. The car is absolutely great as a GT car for two people. Maintenance-wise, you'll come out WAY ahead of any Euro sports car.
As someone who lives in the home of the Corvette, you’re exactly right about the stigma surrounding the C7. That demographic takes over the city several weekends a year. I’m an old soul, though, so I welcome it with open arms! I wouldn’t worry about that at all.
Bro is living out his mid life crisis on film lol. You're in love with it cause you're of the age to be in love with it. I'm in the boat with you too😂 I've been shopping C5s.
It's between a C7 and a 981 Boxster S for my next car (coming from my own Abarth). I'm leaning towards the Boxster... But a C7 is definitely the flashier and probably better value option.
C7 is a great car, but for 40k, I'd also seriously consider a 981 Boxster, or Cayman S. May be hard to find one for 40K, you'd have to go to a higher mileage one. I'm a Corvette guy, currently own a CE Z06, but I fell in love with my 2014 981 Cayman S manual.
It's a great car. go for it. I went straight from the C5 to the C8 (while keeping the C5), and while the new one is obviously way better, I do miss the hatch and trunk space. I do not miss the manual, DCT is the way to go (personal preference, and sure, not an option on the C7). And yeah, that wing has to go...
No, because a base C7 is still a mid $40k+ car, and I'd rather go find a used older 911 for that. Also, the LT1 is a turd engine that require forged pistons to be boosted without potentially ruining the block when the ringlands fail. The C7Z is cooler, but you can absolutely find a 997 or even 991 Turbo for the same price because a clean one will set you back anywhere from mid 60s to high 70s depending on the year, mileage, and package. Quite frankly, the C6 is a superior buy. For the price of a base C7 you can have a clean C6Z, which is just a way cooler driving experience. And a LS3 C6 is $25-30k for a very clean example. Much better than dropping $20k more to have one gen newer with an already-aged interior. Not to mention it's noticeably smaller inside the C7. Or buy a C6 GS, toss on a blower, embarrass every C7Z owner you meet.
Drive a 6th gen Camaro, preferably a 1LE. They don't have the corvette stigma but all of, if not better driving experience and just a touch more practical with back seats.
All the other cars you listed have much more expensive repairs. And less storage. Less power too in most cases. I think you found the one. But try the others!
@@fishbowl7098 I think that bridge is burned, Alanis replied to someone on Instagram that they fired her with no warning because the videos weren’t doing well (I’m not sure if Doug was involved or it was something that came from the new investors) and it seemed like there’s some bad blood there.

Kennan has the technical expertise, Doug has quirky mind and the eye for subtle details… now we have Filippo that see cars through the eye of a regular Joe. And I love that. We need more Filippo take on things.
I feel qualified to comment as someone that replaced a 500 Abarth with a manual C6 in the last 6 months. I'd never driven any Corvette before then, never even seriously wanted one, but it has been great daily driver. It's quick, it drives great, gets up to 30 MPG, doesn't crash over bumps, the only electrical problem I've encountered I believe I've fixed for $10. Really enjoying it!
If you’re enjoying this one, wait til you’re in the manual and experiencing the amazing noises the rev match makes, and get one with competition seats and carbon fiber interior trim, you’ll be on cloud nine!
@@BingBangBrine Manual rentals are probably hard to find. Rental companies don't want to deal with a manual getting trashed by someone who can't drive a manual.
after watching the podcasts and the old live auctions i freaking LOVED this video. Seeing Filippo indulge in this guilty pleasure was absolutely fantastic.
In a word - yes, it is! The C7 Stingray Z51 / GS is one of the very few (maybe the only?) modern sports cars that combines lightweight, an NA V8, manual transmission, RWD, analog driving experience, and open roof if you want it. And then there's MagRide which is an absolute game changer. All Corvettes have a certain image, I get that... but if you get past that, it's one of the best modern sports cars IMO. If BMW or Porsche made a modern car with that formula (lightweight, NA v8, manual, analog, RWD, etc etc) it would break the internet. But, I get the vette image isn't for everyone. I'm in my 30s and I do wish the image wasn't so mid-life crisis haha. But that all melts away when you're carving up a twisty road with the roof open and rowing your own gears the v8 echoing off the mountains. And I know we can debate whether or not it lightweight ... its no Elise, but compared to other modern sports cars, its lighter than even the V6 competition ie Supra, Nissan Z, 911, M4, F-Type, etc. Miata is obviously lighter but slow, the only car I can think of with any grunt that's notably lighter is maybe Boxster GTS. When I was shopping, I really didn't want the answer to be Corvette. I really didn't like the image, but the more I shopped and test drove cars, the more I couldn't help but think it's the best modern affordable sports car on the market.
@@nick816smustangs are not known to be lightweight anyway 😅 but still very cool cars, as mentioned, NA V8, manual transmission, decent price, but idk whether they are reliable or not...
I can only imagine that Doug saw that your main car was a Fiat 500 Abarth and immediately went "this is the exact kind of vibe we're looking for at Cars and Bids, you're hired." Great video, corvettes are always pretty rad.
@@MikeKayK it doesn't look as obnoxious on that version, but still a little too overstated for my taste. I agree other styling aspects tone it down a bit. Moreso than the standard Corvette.
Filippo, you said you wanted something with power, a manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and four seats. You have to try a late-model Mustang GT. Heck, y'all just recentaly sold a gorgeous Bullitt for just $30k.
Manual C7 Z06 owner- the manual is the best I’ve experienced. Auto rev match is shockingly good, shifter feels great and clutch is just light enough- won’t make your leg sore on long trips The Z06 is the sweet spot for me, but the price jump between a manual stingray and a manual Z is insane I think if he gets any C7 with a stick he won’t regret it for a second
I'm getting invested in Filippo's car journey. I really expected him to end up in another hot hatch like a Lancia Delta Integrale. I suppose thats a whole other price category. Maybe some day.
The C7 is peak front-engine Corvette. The C8 is nice but it's a different kind of sports car. If I was going to buy a Corvette to daily drive, it would be a manual C7. As an American, you must own a V8 at some point. As much power as you can reasonably use, good handling, a large hatchback, surprisingly good fuel economy, and can be serviced everywhere. The interior may not be as nice as a Ferrari's but it's not as expensive as one either.
My middle school drama teacher drove a C5 Vette Fully earned its crisis status there for me, before I was aware of being so widespread of a idea But personally it’s just that generation of Chevy’s were off. C5 was like an aggressive Catfish Camero and they almost seemed like badge engineered siblings compared to other gems. The weird plasticy not bumper on the C5 I really disliked lol
The cheapest manual Corvette C7 I could find right now in europe costs almost 80.000€ and is in Italy. The cheapest one where I live (Austria) is 90.000€ and an automatic... Guess this one is gonna be a dream to own here as well...

Well done for taking Kennan's advice and renting one first. Good to see a Filippo video.
Yeah, renting fitst is always a good idea.
He didn't want to pay to rent it, but if he makes a video on it then Cars & Bids can pay for it 😉
Glad being able to watch Filippo making a solo video, cannot wait to hear and see more from him!
Kennan has the technical expertise, Doug has quirky mind and the eye for subtle details… now we have Filippo that see cars through the eye of a regular Joe. And I love that. We need more Filippo take on things.
As a c7 owner. This was very refreshing to see on this channel. And I’m only 31. That mid life crisis stigma is changing.
That or we're celebrating our mid-life crisis early ;)
Fellow c7 owner here, 35 years old. It’s an absolute joy to drive, won’t be giving it up anytime soon
I’m 30 and I will say imagine getting in and out of this thing at 70
it aint changing lol but you shouldn’t care
lolololol its an auto xDD
We need more Filippo reviews. I liked his style, personality, and natural commentary as a whole.
Agree
lol I didn't expect him to go from a fiat 500 to a c7
right? big upgrade for sure! 🤣
Filippo fr chill as hell
I feel qualified to comment as someone that replaced a 500 Abarth with a manual C6 in the last 6 months. I'd never driven any Corvette before then, never even seriously wanted one, but it has been great daily driver. It's quick, it drives great, gets up to 30 MPG, doesn't crash over bumps, the only electrical problem I've encountered I believe I've fixed for $10. Really enjoying it!
If you’re enjoying this one, wait til you’re in the manual and experiencing the amazing noises the rev match makes, and get one with competition seats and carbon fiber interior trim, you’ll be on cloud nine!
or on channel 9 if you do not know how to handle and control the beast...
the manual is far better i cant believe he would even rent an auto
Me personally, I would rather pick the Mustang GT350.
@@tnhn1903 fair, I love those cars, but I’d go for the lightweight and the open roof of the c7
@@JamesM-hb2cj yea, definetly a great choice as well!
Light weight is debatable but I agree with everything else
@@nick816smustangs are not known to be lightweight anyway 😅 but still very cool cars, as mentioned, NA V8, manual transmission, decent price, but idk whether they are reliable or not...
I can only imagine that Doug saw that your main car was a Fiat 500 Abarth and immediately went "this is the exact kind of vibe we're looking for at Cars and Bids, you're hired." Great video, corvettes are always pretty rad.
Him and Doug were already friends for a long time before C&B. I remember watching some old Doug videos where Filippo was featured
@@huhuuhuh9081the Kia spectra video will always be legendary
The C7 weirdly suits Filippo perfectly. Go for it!
Agreed. Not into that obnoxious wing. Either no spoiler or a very modest one.
Yeah, I do think that wing is totally fitting for a ZR1 but definitely not a base model.
@@MikeKayK I personally think it takes away from the overall styling of the car. Too overstated in my opinion
@@sirdouglasberg A ZR1 with the ZTK pack has all those aero bits though, so the huge wang doesn't look out of place on it.
@@MikeKayK it doesn't look as obnoxious on that version, but still a little too overstated for my taste. I agree other styling aspects tone it down a bit. Moreso than the standard Corvette.
I hope so much he gets a corvette. It seems to fit his need well. It just will not break as much as anything else.
Filippo it's just so relatable, hope to see other runner up for your purchase
Filippo, you said you wanted something with power, a manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and four seats. You have to try a late-model Mustang GT. Heck, y'all just recentaly sold a gorgeous Bullitt for just $30k.
Manual C7 Z06 owner- the manual is the best I’ve experienced. Auto rev match is shockingly good, shifter feels great and clutch is just light enough- won’t make your leg sore on long trips
The Z06 is the sweet spot for me, but the price jump between a manual stingray and a manual Z is insane
I think if he gets any C7 with a stick he won’t regret it for a second
I'm getting invested in Filippo's car journey. I really expected him to end up in another hot hatch like a Lancia Delta Integrale. I suppose thats a whole other price category. Maybe some day.
Honestly, I like Filippo's presentation style a lot more than Kennan's. It's cool to have an "everyman" on TH-cam.
The Costco run really made me nostalgic for old Doug videos!
I THINK WE NEED MORE "FILIPO INVESTIGATES"!!!!
22-year-old here, the C7 Vette is hands-down my favorite car of all time. If it’s a mid-life-crisismobile, then I guess I’ll be dead at 30 XD
My middle school drama teacher drove a C5 Vette
Fully earned its crisis status there for me, before I was aware of being so widespread of a idea
But personally it’s just that generation of Chevy’s were off. C5 was like an aggressive Catfish Camero and they almost seemed like badge engineered siblings compared to other gems.
The weird plasticy not bumper on the C5 I really disliked lol
Filippo killed it with this review!
great value and it is going to age wonderfully
The cheapest manual Corvette C7 I could find right now in europe costs almost 80.000€ and is in Italy. The cheapest one where I live (Austria) is 90.000€ and an automatic...
Guess this one is gonna be a dream to own here as well...
They start at 60k here in Germany, but yeah I know how it feels.
Filippo is a great addition to the content on this channel! Can't wait to see more videos like these
