Can't remember exactly who did it but looks like a excellent idea you put into practice there. I would say the fish will be happy and healthy👍

    Mmm..interesting..usually water filters are gravity based, whereas you are using reverse gravity filtration concept. The advantage being less clogging of filter and sediments or waste always settle at bottom and easy to remove. The main disadvantage I believe is the less water that it can process. There should be some way to overcome this for sure. You can improve this model by adding anti algae biscuits which coagulate the water into the top funnel. The residual coagulated waste can never bypass the sheet of sand and can be removed easily via the drain. Instead of sand you can try to use properly sealed filter cloths. They come in cheap and maintenance will be more easy. Just some thoughts.

  • @jacoswart2432
    @jacoswart2432 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice filter, I am sure it will work well. Only question that cropped up in my mind is that it looks like your inlet is low enough to cause back flow when the pump is not running? That will of course make all the filtered dirt flow back into the pond. Only solution in my mind is either a non return valve, or to raise the inlet through a swan neck to make it high enough to prevent it.

    TP just wondering did you use charcoal, or activated charcoal or a combination of both? We made these filters back home in the cabins in the woods where I grew up for drinking water. So was wondering about the charcoal. We never had plastic barrels or plastic water jugs when I was young and we only had Black Poly Pipe or Galvanize pipe and wooden barrels that shipped Salted Cod fish and Small Molasse barrels. god I"m old lol but same idea. Just for drinking water we only used Activated Charcoal, crushed much finer and used onion bags for the screens.. cheers I will save this vid when I go back home this year for a visit. THX..

    Brother, I havent one time thought you were doing something wrong or dissliked any of your home choices. I admire your skill greatly. But hear me out. Im pretty sure you are running that filter backward. I have looked at these a lot. As far as i understood, you should be pumping the dirty water in the top side pipe so that it spreads over the top layer of sand. The sand catches all the fine particulate stuff before it hits the charcoal and then rocks. That way, when it gets nasty up top, you can just change out the sand layer. You dont want the nasty stuff to ever make it too the lower rocks. Should be the lower that is clean water out. Im sure it filters about the same when new, but it will clog the bottom eventually and force you to change all the media out. Just food for thought, and hey, i haven't built one yet, heheheheh Love you Brother. Maybe this was your plan all along and your just back flushing it??? Anyway, just trying to help.

    • @nelsondog100
      @nelsondog100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re mistaken sir, he’s running it correctly. When the time comes to clean the filter the water flow will be reversed therefore flushing and removing the waste the has accumulated. The sand is agitated while it’s running backwards and replaced as required, which isn’t as often as you think. These are very efficient filters and very cost effective.

    • @ropineapplehead2198
      @ropineapplehead2198 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the water bottle capturing the particles, it can be cleaned easier with a back flush. If the debris got filtered on the top, cleaning would be more disruptive having to dismantle and replace the top layer. And that would seem labor intensive. I think the water flow makes it deceiving.

    • @TexasFilipino
      @TexasFilipino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2
