Sorry but there is a big difference between "Social" and "Socialism". Finland is not a socialist country but we have social programs. To understand better this is simple parable what I mean: Some one can be social person but that does not mean that he/she is a socialist. Also, Finland is free market economy and socialist countries never are. What comes example to free education, as an small nation that is "Must" and why? Because we need "All hands on deck", the size of Finland is not so big but it is a huge area for 5,5 million citizen and also in culture too we need to act like big family. This is strategy of survive as an independent nation.
A finn here, I cannot stress this enough, Finland is *not* a socialist country. We have a free economy. What you are mistaking for socialism is social programs, and that is a rather tragic mistake, since it ends up painting planned economies in an unduely good light. And I am sure we can all agree that planned economies were a rather tragic mistake of the past that we need only look at the USSR to realize.
Yeh my grandfathers both fought wars to end tyrranical communist and Nazi governments. My dad's dad fought in WWII against Nazis and Communists and my other grandfather fought the communists in the Korean War but now we're allowing the Koolaid haired commie libs run our country into the ground and take rights away.
Socialism = Government runs basically everything if not everything. Nordic Countries are capitalist countries with high levels of taxation and welfare. Private companies aren't outlawed nor discouraged like they would be in a socialist country. Social Democracy is the word to describe Nordic countries.
You have take account that they are brainwashed, if finnish way is socialism then their police and fire departments are also socialistic institutes since their are paid from tax but when you argue about that they don't understand the counter argument
Every time someone calls Finland socialist country I can hear thousands of war heroes turning in their graves at the same time. It sounds little like ... bone maracas.
Very nice video. The four distinct seasons is a great thing to have here in Finland. Of course, the darkness in the winter can be tough but without it we wouldn't have amazing summers. About socialism, that term doesn't really fit to Finland. From Wikipedia: "Socialism is ... characterised by social ownership of the means of production and workers' self-management of enterprises." That's not how it works here. Finland is a capitalist country. Only the most essential operations of society are publicly-owned. For example the basic education is one of them and health care is a mix of public and private ownership.
Finland is not a "socialist country". Finland is a capitalist market economy with generous social policies. In other words, taxes are pretty high, but most people can also reap the benefits from that at some point in life. That said, I personally would prefer the system to be a bit less leftist. The economy is growing at a poor pace currently and that will benefit nobody in the long term.
Love hearing these experiences. Cool that you also have a fondness to extreme cold weather. I would pretty much want it to always be 20 decrees, plus or minus (68 or -4 F), although I do love it when it's even colder. I always translate sisu to "grit". It's just that mentality where you don't give up, no matter how bad things seem. Thanks for the video.
Nice views from you of Finland and you're really good with the Finnish language. Finland is not quite a flat country, as you were in Kuopio you most probably spotted Puijo, but it depends of course in which part of the country you are, for example Ostrobotnia/Pohjanmaa area, which is the west area of Finland is pretty flat, there are even artificial hills built to have something where to climb on, but for example the centre part is pretty hilly with huge elevations differences, in our standards. Kiitos 🙂
My home (building) is older than USA (nation). Not even Germans and Russian partisans burned house down. Finland was part of Sweden when my ancestors build farm and house to Northern Finland, middle of swamps and forest.
How size of country has anything to do with anything... There's also more taxpayers in bigger country... And economy of large should make things cheaper..
What church were you a missonary from ? I am 1/2 Finnish but I was born in America. My Finnish grandma told me I was to slam the door on Jehovah's witnesses. She was an apostolic Lutheran.
Finland is not a socialist country - it is free democratic country

Once again an American who doesn't know the difference between socialism and social market economy.

It is a pity that the Finnish Civil War wasn't fought until the end. Now we have the communist cancer wiping out what little is left of Finland.
You have take account that they are brainwashed, if finnish way is socialism then their police and fire departments

@@ImForwardlook We don't have a single communist party. SKP was.
@@mil-fpv4931 SKP was banned in 1944 so they reformed as the SDP. And yes, today, SDP is in power.
This was so heartfelt it made me cry. Love and all the best from Finland!
Finland is capitalistic country but it is social democratic. Not socialist at all.
Just a little confused, eh?
Every time someone calls Finland socialist country I can hear thousands of war heroes turning in their graves at the same time. It sounds little like ... bone maracas.
