Omg I have that exact same tumbler that my dad gave me that was originally his dad's! We are talking a three generation tumbler thats from the early 70's and its still going strong. Be prepared to put that thing in your will!.

Wow I had no idea it took this long!!
For the plastic pellets cut ✂️ the top off a 1-gallon water bottle. Turn it upside down and there you have it instant funnel. I do the same thing with our dog's kibble pouring it into a cup for mixing. Works awesome !

It never seizes to amaze me how many privileged people there are out there who own expensive things that have never been used. Just like go online or to the store and buy random junk with no care in the world for whether or not you use it or want it
@@TraceguyRuneLook at it this way. I've done it also. In life there are many priorities. As much as I wanted to tumble the rocks it just wasn't a top priority. Everyday living events get in the way. So try to look at it a little differently. It's not always like you think it is....😉

Thank you so much. I got a tumbler for my birthday last week. Nervous about using because I live in an apartment and not sure about the noise and where to get rid of used grit. Your video calmed me considerably except not sure where I can clean off rocks after each stage if the stuff can't go down the drain. Do you have any suggestions ?
Good video I basically do my rocks the same, but I used ceramic pellets and instead of aluminum oxide I used tin oxide I have found it makes a big difference in the final polish it costs a bit more BUT you can use less, and it makes a big difference ;)

Where do you get all your grit, and your pre-polish and polish from? And is your aluminum oxide polish 1200 or higher?
I have tumble some rocks that were too soft to take a polish. That’s the breaks but it does happen.

I've watched and self educated on many vidios and tutorials,,however there are amazing tips,,.
Can you do a tips video on grinding grit polishing powders that can physically bring the stones up like glass finish.
I want to work with top quality mineral stones so i am looking for that lust factor.

I use plastic beany beads can be bought very cheap and cheerful for a fractional cost.

You had a 3 pound tumbler. That didn’t look like 3 pounds of rocks? Did you weigh them or do you have a certain fill point you load rocks to?
He said 1 1/2 pounds you just don't want to overload the tumbler
He certainly was underfilling that tumbler and doing the most simple no-skill tumbling. Exactly what a total beginner needs for their very first try.

Question from a frugal person, did you notice if running the tumbler for a week several times was a big increase to you utility bill?
There's a guy on TH-cam that's been doing it for 6 years and for a small 3 lb tub or tubs It's about $2 a month and for the bigger equipment like the 15 lb tumblers and 18 lb vibrators it runs closer to $3.50 to $4 a month!
Esp now with utilities on the rise😡… always wanted to try tumbling, but a Months process of 24/7 electricity, I may look for a diff Hobby😂

I've had my tumblers for awhile and haven't used them yet! Your vid enticed me but I'm still concerned about the noise even though it didn't sound that loud. I'm trying to figure out where to put it in the house. (no basement)
The garage is the best spot if you don't have a basement. :)

I bought my daughter a rock tumbler and it makes quite a racket, think I could run this in garage if the temperature gets to freezing and below? I’m thinking since it’s in constant motion the water won’t freeze, what you think?
You can go a bit below freezing, but not much. Even when not freezing solid, slush isn't doing its job either. But as far as I'm aware, there's no reason not to use salt water---it's a purely mechanical process. That should suffice for most garages.
If I put a tumbler on a solid shelf, would it be likely to vibrate off the edge? Or is it heavy enough to sit still? Thanks for the info.
You shouldn't have a problem with them falling off like that. Generally Tumblers are very stable. You can even place a piece of cardboard underneath to help muffle the sounds it makes!

My Tumbler has 3 speeds that it can go (1-3). What would the best speed be?
For a 3-pound barrel, around 50 rpm.
4 weeks? Wow. Really appreciate you making this video, but I am never going to do this. I think I'll stick to bigger rocks that I can maybe use a belt sander or angle grinder on

How much rock should go in the container? It looked like you filled it about half way? Is that the recommended amount? Also, should the rocks all be the same? Mixing quartz and jasper wouldn’t be ideal, correct?

Filling the container about halfway is good! And as far as mixing stones goes, the main thing is researching or checking the hardness! As long as the hardness is the same you can mix them!
I just got this tumbler for Christmas, In the directions it says to check the barrel after 24 hours for gas buildup. Is this something that happens? I cant wait to start .
i dont think you have to worry about it.

this may seem like a stupid question, but what can you do with the polished stones? Can you mount them as jewlery? if so, how can you make jewlery from them?
It depends on what jewelry you wish to make! Small tumbled stones can be used to wire wrap pendants. If you are looking for a set piece they will more than likely have to be cut to make a cabochon.

WOW! I had no idea it takes a whole month to tumble stones. I have so many I've collected over the years and wanted to tumble one day but now I'm not so sure. 🤣🤣🤣
Stop procrastinating get to work. At 1 month a run it will take you the next 147.2 years
What if you are only polishing one stone
im gonna share a small peice of info, save yr slurry, both for unused 1st stage, but also can be used as your thickener for your slurry, for me anyways tumbling time 80% 1st stage, 20% the rest

my single greatest piece of advice, you see the number of chemical elements that can constitute a mineral? which then form rock? not just variability of elements, but also the chemical formula and even chemical structure of the rock (think Tetris: completely different results can be had with exact same building blocks, well....thats the number of ways you can tumble rock in order to gert the perfect shine, nother words, every rock has a tumbling preference, if always working with new and deferent rock, always expect new and different results from your tumblers, thats my advice im only a 2 year veterran tumbler so calling all General tumblers, Tumble Cadet here, am i right?
