I like to help solve this seemingly easy but difficult puzzle. Firstly, make sure you position the ring so that you can see the snake eating its tail, with the snake on the right side. Second, note that there are 6 spikes on the star: 5 of them are long and one is slightly shorter. Position the short spike 1 inch to the left of the snake's mouth, and slide it out to the back of the ring.
> Very fun puzzle designed by Nob Yoshigahara. I believe it's actually a very old design - a bunch of the early Hanayamas are 'reprints' of very old designs
Indeed, I think Nob took a lot of inspiration from the 19th century puzzles in UK, apparently found in flea markets when mechanical puzzles were popular. Seems you have good knowledge of Hanayama puzzles, any personal favourites?
@@downtimefun I'm a big fan of Diamond, Loop, Coil, Spiral, Love, Hook, Slider, Devil (another early 20th century one). I mostly like the simpler ones - i find the more complex ones are often fiddly and require more dexterity than I care for.
