hahahaha this is, indeed kpop. lisa is a member of blackpink, who are currently the biggest girl group in the world. lisa is the third member out of four to go solo and money is her b-side. they make songs both in korean and english but it's still considered kpop because they're a kpop group. lisa leans more towards hip hop which can be seen in her solo songs. hope this helped a little. :)

This song is not K-pop. This is a K-pop artist singing a hip hop and rap song in English. It’s really important to understand the difference so that we can be mindful and respectful of the cultures K-pop draws its influences from.
This particular song is full-on hip hop & rap. Blackpink’s discography, however, is K-pop.

Lisa is from a Kpop Girl Group BLACKPINK but her Nationality is Thai, she can Rap, Sing and she's the Main Dancer of the group, she's also a multilingual and can speak English fluently and their group is a worldwide artist that's why maybe she decided to make a song in English, and they also had a collaboration to many western Artists like Selena Gomez, Cardi B, Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa.
"Money" is just a b-side of her first solo album and "Lalisa" is the title track (you should try to watch it, that's more addictive). BLACKPINK's songs always have a mix of hiphop especially on how swag their two rapper have.

If you decide to give Blackpink a try, it's going to be a very interesting ride...I'm gonna sub just to watch you tumble down the rabbit hole that is Blackpink. Personally, I find their music so diverse and much more interesting than most current "western" content. I grew up with the Beatles (saw them live 2x) and all the amazing innovative music of that era (yep, I'm that old), and since discovering Blackpink, for the first time in many years I've gotten excited by "pop" music again. There is so much to discover, including incredible live concert performances.
As others have mentioned, check out her solo MV Lalisa to see what the hype is all about, I don't think you'll be disappointed. What you just saw was a dance performance, the MV's are a completely different experience (put on the English subtitles). Thx for your reaction.

The LA music scene and most Americans have no clue how amazing and diverse the music, talent and production is that's happening in Korea now... For some of the best live studio music in the world, I'd also recommend an adventure in Coke Studio and Nescafe Basement in Pakistan, where they have the freedom to go beyond 3:30 video, to more freeform fusion between different genres.

This is K-Pop, but it's not your typical K-Pop. If you really like this, you may find yourself disappointed with a lot of other K-Pop. This has a distinctly western (all English) vibe. However, if you're open minded, other K-Pop (Blackpink etc.) has fantastic production and extreme talent. I'm a 52-year-old 70s & 80s rock and roll guy. It helps to think of K-Pop (South Korean Pop) as more of an industry than a specific genre with a specific sound, as there are K-Pop songs and artists whose music is influenced by and fuses elements from many different genres, sounds, time periods, languages, and countries, which is what makes the industry so varied and experimental. Coming into K-Pop expecting a certain sound or aesthetic will lead to you constantly being caught off guard. (in a very fun way)
However you are correct in assuming that this specific song is in many ways targeted towards a western hip hop listening audience, since BLACKPINK (the group Lisa is a member of) have many fans in English speaking countries. I wouldn't let this push you away from listening to some of BLACKPINK's music or other K-Pop though, as long as you are open minded about trying new music. Because K-Pop is so varied in its sound and aesthetic, there will undoubtedly be some songs that you like more than others, but it also means that there is almost guaranteed to be music that you will fall in love with. Hoping to see you react to LALISA, BLACKPINK's music, and maybe other K-Pop artists too.
Feel free to hit me up on Twitter or TH-cam if you have any other questions about K-Pop, and I would be happy to do my best to help :)

This song is blowing up, currently #1 on Billboard Rap Songs, top 50 global on Spotify… but I wouldn’t call it Kpop. Try Blackpink’s Ddu du Ddu du, Kill this love, Lovesick Girls, any of their songs actually, you can’t go wrong. And then the other two members (there are 4) with solo projects worth checking: Rosé - On the ground (not kpop on my opinion either) and Jennie - Solo. Seriously it’s good! I have surrendered myself 🙌🏻 thank you for your reaction, this is my first time writing that much to recommend smth on yt 😂

Money is her b-side track, Lalisa is her single. But I personally like Money better lol. Money was definitely targeted more towards the western/american audience and market.
Lisa is part of a 4 girl group Blackpink, they all get to do solo stuff. All 4 of them can speak 3-5 languages.
All of them also trained in rapping, dancing and singing for 5+ years before their first song came out. So they're all very talented, but they each have their own specialties. For example, Lisa is known for her rapping and her dancing, especially hip hop dancing. Lisa has been trained in dance since she was 4 years old.
Lisa posts dance videos on her own channel Lilifilm, you should react to those too. The videos are titled Lilifilm Dance Performance #1 - #4, and another called Lilifilm The Movie. She has a lot of hip hop swag.
You'll get to see the extent of her dancing talents there, the choreographies are harder because she's dancing to other people's songs. For Money and Lalisa, the choreography has to be easier because she has to sing and rap live while dancing when she performs. She's considered one of the best female dancer in kpop.

As others have said, K-pop is not really a genre. It's an indication that the label is based in South Korea.
The music is a mix of many genres: pop, hip-hop, EDM, trap, traditional music from many countries, country, ballads, and more. Groups will use bits of all of them, and several genres may be mixed into a single song.
The artists are international as well. For example, Lisa is Thai. Blackpink has three other members. Jisoo is Korean. Jennie is Korean, but lived in New Zealand for years. Rosé is of Korean descent, was born in New Zealand, but mostly raised in Australia.
Lisa is one of the best dancers and rappers in K-pop, but she can also sing. She is a supermodel repping several companies, including Celine. And she speaks at least 5 languages. All of the K-pop idols are multi-talented due to the grueling multi-year training the labels put them through. For example, Lisa was recruited and started training in 2012 at 15 years old, and trained until Blackpink debuted in 2016, finally getting her solo debut now.
It is common for the members of K-pop groups to do solo projects, and it's not usually an indication of problems in the group.
    Welcome to the rabbit hole!

Lmao, I watch KPOP from time to time and you're right.
Usually KPOP doesn't sound like that, and it's usually 70% Korean and 30% English (or no English at all).

Enjoyed your reaction.. it was bittersweet cos you were undoubtedly honest if you were prepared to admit you had low expectations of Kpop. I think there is a lot of talent in South Korea and even a group from Philippines are getting noticed. It is rather sad that people assume this of Asian artists and their fans have to keep trying to prove their worth. Why don’t you look into more ..some you may like some you may not.. but isn’t that true of any artist from anywhere in the world? Who has a right to say an artist or a song is not good if it’s loved my millions around the world?
Hope you react more because I love watching honest reactions like yours 😊

BUNCH OF ANSWERS AND INFO with links...
Lisa did a straight up hiphop song for her b-side and it hit #1 on Billboard digital rap song sales,
The title track LALISA has more pop elements but also two really good faster rap sections.
Beat switches happen quite a bit in BLACKPINK songs. Most Kpop is in Korean (the K in Kpop) with some parts in English. Lisa is the 24 yo Thai main dancer / lead rapper in BLACKPINK the most popular girl group in the world with more TH-cam subscribers than even Justin Bieber now 67 million.
BLACKPINK debuted 5 years ago, members getting solo project on side. Lisa's dance skills go way beyond this (best female dancer in Kpop), see LILI's FILM DANCEs 1-4 & solo covers (scroll down),
LISA's b-side MONEY an all English hiphop/trap song got a PERFORMANCE VIDEO on Sept.23
Her record breaking music video for LALISA is a must-see, crazy big budget, multiple sets, 14 outfits.
If you want to see LALISA choreography better & see charismatic Lisa perform it in casual sportswear,
watch LISA - LALISA DANCE PRACTICE th-cam.com/video/ZJ6QQLDIzrI/w-d-xo.html
LISA - LALISA SPECIAL STAGE is a must-see performance with full choreography and swag:
    th-cam.com/video/08x_TcTyw8o/w-d-xo.html
Lisa's solo LALISA just dropped on Oct.10, 2021 with the MV breaking multiple TH-cam soloist music video records with 73.6 MILLION views in 24 hours (confirmed, passing both Ariana and Taylor, so #1 most 24hr soloist views and #6 most 24hr views of any music video) and later breaking Psy's record for Gentleman as fastest soloist worldwide to get 100M views (in just over 49 hours).
BILLBOARD CHART: LALISA song debuted #2 on Billboard Global 200 chart and Global Excluding US chart -- ironically right behind J.Bieber, whom BLACKPINK recently passed in TH-cam subscribers when this MV dropped. LALISA and MONEY were #6 and #8 on Billboard digital song sales the first week. With b-side MONEY Lisa is also now the 1st female Kpop soloist to have the #1 song on Billboard Rap digital song sales. LALISA debuted at #68 on the UK singles chart and #84 on the Billboard Hot 100, not bad for a Korean song that doesn't get US radio airplay and had little promotion.
KOREAN CHARTS: Lisa's 1st week sales of this 2 song single slightly outsold 1st week of BLACKPINK 8 song THE ALBUM on Hanteo chart in Korea (736K sold, only behind one male artist's album 1st week solo sales, she's only the 6th Korean artist to sell over 700K copies in the first week on Hanteo). Lisa, BLACKPINK and 2 song solo of fellow member Rosé now hold top 3 slots for 1st week sales female albums on Hanteo.
When Lisa (Thai) won on Music Bank for LALISA she became the first ever foreign soloist of non-Korean parents to win a weekly music show trophy (her half-Korean / Dutch Canadian friend SOMI previously won for WYWF and Dumb Dumb, songs also produced by TEDDY, not sure if that was a first also)
Lisa had her debut solo performance on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show (like Rosé had in March):
    th-cam.com/video/rZYxzen9uEA/w-d-xo.html
I think the style of outfit and setting muted Lisa a bit (making Rosé performance more visually stunning by comparison), but BLACKPINK TH-cam channel released the more impressive
LALISA SPECIAL STAGE video 2 days later which included the great black and gold outfit from the MV:
(see link at top of comment)
Now THIS is how the American tv performance should have looked (though yeah you can't have an outfit change halfway through a live performance). This is how you help a great performer like (my ultimate bias) Lisa to shine.
HERE ARE SOME BLACKPINK LISA DANCE COVERS and ROSÉ VOCAL COVERS...

b-side MONEY wasn't my thing, but ymmv if hip hop flex songs in English are what you're into.
(previous rumors suggested a Lisa song with DJ Snake based on his social media hints, maybe that's a separate collab release being held back til after her debut? It's been suggested the DJ Snake collab with Lisa is the same song with Ozuna and Megan Thee Stallion).
a series of short visual teasers for Lisa's solo (no music from tne songs) had her trending #1 on Twitter:

kpop is not really a "genre". more like a system or music lifestyle. kpop is often a huge mix of genres. kpop companies are like schools that train artists over YEARS in many genres like singing, rapping, dancing and such. thats why most kpop groups have specific positions within. like "main singer" "main rapper "main dancer".
Lisa for example is the "Main dancer" and "lead rapper" of Blackpink. Blackpink at this point is the biggest girlgroup in the world and just surpassed justin bieber as the biggest artist channel in the world on youtube with the most subscribers. Kpop groups often release solo projects of their members inbetween full group releases, to let their individuality more shine through.
Like lisas first solo debut project here (the songs Lalisa and Money). Check out the Music video for "lalisa", You really should check out their group videos too. like Blackpink - How you like that or Ddu du ddu du. there you can hear all the genre mixes and languages mixing more. beside that, their music videos are legendary.

People really need to get the preconceived notions they have about kpop out of their head when they react to it for the first time because it can be very versatile.

    *Hellou!* 😄
I know there are many fans, but I'm not judging anyone. So hope understand, this is my view for the content creator since Taun said that he wasn't sure, and is okay!
    -------------------------------
If you listen carefully to the beat at the end of MV it sounds familiar to _Squad Game_ one of OST songs _(a series on Netflix)._
Because I have seen many edited videos where people mix the MONEY -song and Squad Game scenes together, and I really like it.
Also, Lisa is a member of BLACKPINK, and she is known among international fans, and she is also favored overseas. She also anticipates in *Youth With You "Girls"* and *Youth With You "Boys" Season 3* known as _a dancer mentor._
She has also a fan of her own channel name as LiLi Film (Lilifilm Official) where she has many videos about her doing her 1st debut of the songs _*LALISA and MONEY*._
*One thing, I forget to mention:* Lisa is also an amazing dancer, singer, and rapper (in the group, but actually every member could do rap too).
    ----------------------------------
Even these songs are in English, she is still a K-pop singer, but I'm not sure if this category is a K-pop song yet, ofc there are many Korean singers/artists/groups like *_BTS, EXO, IU, AKMU, Lee Hi, etc._* who sings also in English and is always amazing to see them singing in English.
I, myself listen not only K-pop but also various different types of music from genres to genres but also I had found through it many unpopular and not well-known yet singers/artists/groups worldwide.
So, I hope you enjoy finding new singers to listen to and give your opinions about them! Fun to watch, thank you Taun!
    -----------------------------------
    *Thank you for reading!*

Lisa's hip-hop/rap focused style is admittedly less common among female artists in kpop. If you were expecting a more bubbly, upbeat song, that is a very popular style too(see: TWICE). But that's the beauty of kpop! There is such a diverse range of sounds. You have the badass raps along with the cutesy stuff, and they're all catchy asf.
Although this song is entirely in English, it's still more or less considered Kpop since it's from a Korean-based artist who's apart of a Kpop group. Most of her music is in Korean but has a fair amount of English mixed in. It's pretty common for Kpop artists to release songs in English or have a mix of languages, even if they aren't fluent. But Lisa is fluent in English so it makes sense she'd be comfortable doing a whole solo song in that language.
Also since you mentioned not knowing who the other BLACKPINK girls are: it consists of four members: Jennie, Jisoo, Rose, and Lisa. I highly recommend you check out some of their music. If you liked this song a lot, I think you'd like How You Like That. Also make sure to check out LALISA :)

Well, technically it's "k-pop" but actually you won't find songs like this among other k-pop "idols" (that's how they call their "stars") or groups. Usually k-pop songs are boring "sweet" pop songs sung by "pretty" boys and girls (and after around 10 years, when they become old, they just thrown away). Blackpink's songs are pretty different from usual k-pop and have many hip-hop elements. But Lalisa (it's her full name and she is Thai, not Korean) goes full hip-hop and full English here. So actually Money is pure hip-hop which is YG's (Blackpink's promotion company) distinctive feature.

Since everyone giving info, I will say the reason why it's familar. It's actually envading on tiktok, they used money for edits and challenge. Her song is mostly having a rap part because she's the lead rapper from the group yet she still sing. She trained for 5 years for rap, singing and dancing. Her main asset is dacing but she enhance her rapping skills and debut having a role as a rapper. Whatever blackpink mv you will watch she always with her bangs even she's little so it's a gift for us nowadays seeing him without her bangs😂 while when they performed at Coachella (2019) non kpop fans called her ponytail rapper.

Her name is Lalisa Manoban and her stage name is Lisa, a member of the biggest girl group in the world with 67.3M subs. Blackpink has a diverse music so you should react to more of their MV's . Lisa is an ambassador of BVLGARI and CELINE as well as an endorser of many brands like Dentiste, Penshoppe etc.

If this kind of music is your style then definitely Blackpink is up your ally all the way. This is like the definition of Blackpink. Strong and powerful beats with amazing dancing, and beautiful singing and rapping too.
Also SO many hidden, diverse and dark undertones and meanings in their music videos and lyrics. Tip* It’s definitely something to have fun with and look out for.❤️❤️❤️❤️
But…Blackpink’s style is definitely different compared to some other groups in k-pop. (It’s definitely why they are the top group right now.) But just letting you know that you might be a little disappointed with the rest of K-pop if this is your favorite style.
With that said, K-pop does have many amazing and wonderful aspects to it that you may find that interest you after all, so I definitely recommend checking different groups out to see what you like and decide for yourself your own taste.☺️🖤💗🌹
