Itanda village is located about 20 km south-east of Bolpur town in Birbhum district. John Chip, an indigo trader, also built an indigo factory here in 1784. Although there is no sign of that indigo factory now. But there are several terracotta temples here.
Raseshwar Shiva Temple. As the temple has five pinnacles, many people also call this temple Pancharatna Shiva Mandir. The temple was built by Rasananda Sadhu around 1750 Shakabda, i.e. 1818 AD. The entire temple is covered with ancient terracotta carvings. Various images of Puranas including Ramayana, Mahabharata have appeared on each terracotta plate.
There is another ancient Shiva temple next to the Raseshwar Shiva temple. Gadadhar Pine built this temple of Deul nature around 1815 AD. Despite being more than 200 years old, the temple may seem new. Because recently the head of this temple has been renovated quite well.
Jorbangla Temple. At one time temples were built in the form of hut houses for the common people of rural Bengal. All these temples were commonly known as Chala temples. When two shed temples are built side by side, it is called Jorbangla Temple. The main attraction of this temple is the dazzling ancient terracotta carvings on the front. The artists, with their skillful hands, impeccable patience and subtlety, have very accurately portrayed the various paintings of the Puranas here. Even in the terracotta of this temple, various scenes of Puranas including Ramayana-Mahabharata are beautifully painted. Here, too, the European ideology is wonderfully reflected.
